Evan Baxter (Played by Steve Carrell) has gone from news reporter to Congressman and is starting a new life with his wife Joan and three sons. His goal? To Change The World. However, what he had in mind isn't what God (played by Morgan Freeman) had in mind. Evan has been given a task to change the world: To build an ark and survive the flood. This comes at the same time Congressman Long is trying to pass an important bill and needs Evan's help. Evan now has to juggle his family, his job, and now his new task. Can he live up to his promise to change the world?
The Koopa Kommander now will issue his ratings:
STORYLINE: You got the typical good guy who gets a crazy task and has people against him at all odds. The story is great for a family but not for a comedy though. There's a moral to the story, and families can relate to it. 7.5/10
CHARACTERS: Steve Carrell plays the upright neat freak Evan Baxter. He does a good job at it, however it lacks a sort of comedic effect that viewers would have seen from The 40 Year Old Virgin. Morgan Freeman plays God and plays it well, being the mentor of Evan. You might get a chuckle from the duo once in a while, but not something hilarious. Most of the laughter tends to come from Wanda Skyes, who plays the secretary to Evan.
7/10
VISUAL EFFECTS: Nothing really to say about the special effects. Many people say that it was overused, I don't think so. I think the movie used it appropriately, nothing too flashy. But this is suppose to be a comedy remember?
9.5/10
SOUND: Nothing wrong with the music really. The booming sounds of water and other natural sounds fitted perfectly with the respective scenes. Nothing stood out as wrong to me.
10/10
LAUGHTER: This is where I see the movie fall flat. It is suppose to be a sequel to Bruce Almighty. Frankly that was a wrong move. Bruce Almighty was funny, this is not. I am not saying this is a bad movie, but Evan Almighty lacks the comedy that Bruce Almighty had. There are some chuckle moments during the movie, but overall this is not as funny as Bruce Almighty. 4/10
FINAL WORDS: If you are looking for laughs, skip Evan Almighty. However, it's a great film for the family, so don't totally ignore it. If your family is in the mood of watching a movie, tell them to see this one. It's not bad, it's just not funny as it's predecessor was.
FINAL SCORE: 7.6/10
