Terastallization:
Terastallizing into Grass helps Emboar get rid of its weaknesses to Ground, Water, and Rock, but keeps its weakness to Flying. This is likely a relatively niche tera, as Grass otherwise sucks both offensively and defensively. However, this does help Emboar use stronger Trailblazes to hit those pesky Rock and Water type Pokémon
Terastallizing into Ice is definitely more of an offensive Tera, as Ice is horrible defensively, but at least nothing is clicking a Fire or Steel type move into Emboar, so that's a benefit. Tera Ice + Tera Blast could help Emboar hit Gliscor or Landorus-T for 4x damage, which is basically all you can use tera ice for.
Terastallizing into Fire is definitely an option as well, as now you can fire off powerful (essentially) Adaptability-boosted Reckless-boosted Flare Blitzes which are basically 288BP nukes.
Terastallizing into Electric can help Emboar as well, allowing its Reckless-boosted Wild Charges to hit even harder, essentially giving it a 162 BP move to hit mons such as Dondozo, Toxapex, Alomomola, and Manaphy.
Terastallizing into Dark has minor benefits to Embor defensively, as it offers an immunity to Psychic type attacks while being neutral to all of of Emboar’s other weaknesses. On the offensive side, Dark empowers Emboar’s Knock Off and Sucker Punch, both of which are great complementary moves to Emboar’s Fire/Fighting STABs.
Pros
- Powerful Reckless-boosted attacks and Close Combat coming off a decent 123 attack
- Fire + Fighting + Dark is an unresisted type combination
- Decent HP stat for slight bulk + can spam recoil moves without too much fear of killing itself
- Pretty flexible movepool to pick and choose your coverage
Cons
- Very slow, and even equipped with a Choice Scarf only hits 376 speed, notably still being slower than Dragapult, Meowscarada, Ribombee, Iron Boulder, and Zamazenta
- While Emboar has a high HP stat, it had middling defenses with 65 in both defense and special defense
Potential Sets
Choice Band Wallbreaker
Emboar @ Choice Band Choice Band Wallbreaker
Ability: Reckless
Tera Type: Fire/Electric/Dark
EVs: 96 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def / 156 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Close Combat
- Wild Charge
- Knock Off/Earthquake/Sucker Punch/Double Edge/Head Smash
Imo this is the best set for Emboar, as it utilizes Emboar’s raw power and just hits powerfully.
156 EVs into speed allows Emboar to outspeed non-invested Gholdengo, and the rest of the EVs were dumped into attack and then bulk. Flare Blitz and Close Combat are the powerful STABs of choice, while Wild Charge offers valuable coverage against Pokémon such as Toxapex, Alomomola, and other bulky Waters. For the final move slot, Knock Off is useful for removing items and hitting Ghosts such as Dragapult for super-effective damage, while Earthquake can hit Electric and Fire types such as Raging Bolt, Iron Moth, and Gouging Fire. Sucker Punch alleviates the middling speed issue and also provides Dark coverage for Dragapult, but has the drawback of being choice-locked, meaning the opponent can take the opportunity to get a turn of free setup. Head Smash is a very niche option with high BP which is further boosted by Reckless, but has the drawback of having more recoil, only 80% accuracy, and not really giving much coverage overall.

Adamant Nature
- Bulk Up
- Flare Blitz/Fire Punch/Temper Flare
- Knock Off/Sucker Punch/Wild Charge
- Drain Punch/Close Combat
This is just standard Bulk Up + 3 attacks. The fire STAB can be Flare Blitz, in which case Reckless should be used for the power boosts and the first EV spread is recommended to have more HP to utilize in tandem with the Flare Blitz recoil. Otherwise, Blaze should be used in case you are in range and need the fire type move boost. The fighting STAB is between Drain Punch and Close Combat. Drain Punch provides valuable healing outside of Leftovers, while Close Combat sacrifices that for raw damage. Drain Punch would rather use the second EV spread to maximize HP drained. Lastly, the 4th move usually should be a dark type move, as Fire + Dark + Fighting is unresisted. Knock Off is used for more damage and utility to remove items, but Sucker Punch is also useful for priority, solving for the issue of Emboar being painfully slow. Wild Charge is useful for the Dondozos and Toxapexes and occasional Alomomolas running around, and paired with Reckless and Tera Electric can do decent damage. Otherwise, a more defensive Tera is useful, with Dark being decent to be immune to Psychic while also boosting the Dark move of your choice.

Special Sun Sweeper
Ability: Blaze
Tera Type: Grass/Fire
EVs: 96 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 156 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Solar Beam
- Flamethrower/Fire Blast
- Overheat
- Focus Blast
Same speed investment as usual to outspeed uninvested Gholdengo, and everything else is shoved into power. You can run either Flamethrower or Fire Blast, but I hate missing so I slightly prefer Flamethrower. Solar Beam is valuable Grass coverage which is good with sun support, and Overheat is just a nuke. Focus Blast is the Fighting STAB on this set to hit Pokémon such as Incineroar, Roaring Moon, Archaludon, etc.
That’s all from me! What are your thoughts on Emboar?
