[SET]
Dual Screens (Grimmsnarl) @ Light Clay
Ability: Prankster
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 116 Def / 140 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Taunt
- Foul Play / Parting Shot / Thunder Wave
Grimmsnarl serves as the premier dual screens setter on hyper offense teams due to its ability Prankster and access to Taunt, which crucially denies entry hazards from many common leads, as well as blocking opposing attempts to use Taunt or remove dual screens with Defog. Foul Play requires no Attack EVs to function, allowing Grimmsnarl to OHKO several Attack-boosting Pokemon that try to set up on it such as Ogerpon-W and offensive Garchomp. Parting Shot is sometimes used to pivot and force out Mega Diancie, while Thunder Wave is also an option to cripple fast threats. Tera Steel allows Grimmsnarl to resist Fairy attacks from Tapu Lele, and Iron Valiant, although using Tera on it is typically not ideal. 140 Special Defense EVs let Grimmsnarl survive two Moonblasts from Choice Scarf Tapu Lele behind Light Screen while the rest of its EVs are dumped into Defense, as most priority moves from Pokemon that can outspeed its Prankster dual screens are physical, such as Fake Out from Mega Lopunny and Mega Medicham, with Mega Medicham occasionally using Bullet Punch as well. Teammates that benefit from Grimmsnarl's utility are mainly setup sweepers that can blow through most teams if allowed multiple turns of setup, such as Iron Crown, Mega Gyarados, Gouging Fire, Volcarona, and Dragonite, and hard hitting wallbreakers such as Ursaluna, and Mega Mawile that can beat almost anything one-on-one with dual screens up. Strong Fairy-type attackers such as Choice Specs Iron Valiant and Tapu Lele can often leave Grimmsnarl severely chipped despite Light Screen, hurting its ability to set dual screens later on in the game. Additionally, entry hazard setters who ignore Taunt such as Mega Diancie and Mega Tyranitar give Grimmsnarl and the hyper offense teams it is found on trouble. Teammates like Iron Crown and Mega Mawile can turn these offensive Fairy-types into setup fodder, while teammates such as Urshifu-R can turn Mega Tyranitar and other Dark-types, like Weavile and Hisuian Samurott capable of ignoring Prankster into setup fodder.
