SV OU Dragalge + Rain

:Dragalge: :Glimmora: :Gholdengo: :Pelipper: :Greninja: :Floatzel:

Simple team, I find poison much more viable, and you'll find yourself getting a lot of chip damage through Dragalge and Glimmora. Greninja can operate with and without rain effectively, tera grass taking Rotom-W by surprise. Gholdengo puts in his signature work, while the rain duo is there for the end game.

Dragalge @ Assault Vest
Ability: Adaptability
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Sludge Bomb
- Hydro Pump
- Focus Blast

The best set for this mon I've seen by far. Shoutouts to JustWeavile on Youtube for using it with great success. Adaptability Draco Meteor is really a difference maker this generation, especially with Tera Dragon. Sludge bomb is also spammable, and the 30% chance to poison is very much appreciated. Hydro Pump and Focus Blast for coverage.

Glimmora @ Focus Sash
Ability: Toxic Debris
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Sludge Wave
- Earth Power
- Mortal Spin

One of the most menacing leads in SV. Just click rocks, or if you feel like your opponent is the type to overthink, spamming your attacks will gain you advantage. Mortal spin trolls other hazard leads while poisoning them. Toxic Debris ability also adds to the show, as poison chip is very valuable for the sweepers.

Gholdengo @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Good as Gold
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Make It Rain
- Shadow Ball
- Nasty Plot
- Trick

Scarf gives the team speed control outside of rain alongside Greninja. Nasty plot should be used for wallbreaking if you've decided to use trick. Running a ghost type is almost mandatory for every team in my books, and this one is arguably the best. The typing is great, allowing you to even switch into certain attacks.

Pelipper @ Damp Rock
Ability: Drizzle
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SpA
Quiet Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Hurricane
- Knock Off
- U-turn

Knock off is really good if you've decided to commence the rain earlier instead of the end-game. Tera ground can really prove to be a thorn in your opponents side. Pelipper's offensive pressure is often underrated, so a sly hurricane or hydro pump can really punch holes against the opponent. Otherwise, you just wanna get a slow u-turn off into Floatzel.

Greninja @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Protean
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Tera Blast
- Ice Beam
- Spikes

Standard LO greninja, I find he really enjoys sitting back and clicking coverage options or even spikes, due to opponents scrambling to switch against this threat. Tera-Grass is used to snipe Rotom-W and Dondozo, who really check this team. Protean with spikes allows you to avoid electric type moves entirely and retaliate the following turn.

Riptide (Floatzel) @ Choice Band
Ability: Swift Swim
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Wave Crash
- Ice Spinner
- Aqua Jet
- Crunch

The endgame demon. Replacing Barraskewda in this generation we have our dear boy Riptide the Floatzel. Banded wave crash in the rain, especially if you've managed to save your tera water, hits different. Respectfully. Aqua jet is for priority to take out faster mons on low health outside of rain. Ice Spinner and Crunch provide good coverage.

Notable counters:

:Rotom-Wash: :Dondozo: :Dragapult: :Garganacl: :Kingambit::Iron hands: :Walking Wake:

Rotom-W is the natural counter to the team. You have to pinch it into a position for Greninja to use tera grass, or poison it and kill with chip damage. Tera grass is also used for Dondozo.

Specs Dragapult has an answer to every pokemon on the team. try to conserve Gholdengo for this.

Garganacl actually becomes a problem once it terrastellizes to water or fairy, which they love to do against this team. It's very difficult to kill, so this is where you should use your poison types.

Just like bisharp could counter rain teams in a pinch in past generations, Kingambit does the same on steroids. Especially in the endgame thanks to supreme overlord. Dragalge can 1v1 him, however, so keep this in mind.

EDIT: I just added Walking Wake to the counters list after seeing the reveal. Self explanatory.

Hey Houseki, very interesting team. Some very quick changes I would try
  • Choice Specs and Grass Knot > Tera Blast on Greninja. Hits Dondozo and Garganacl extremely hard even if they tera and well you don't need to tera yourself since you have Protean. Notably you OHKO Dondozo if they don't tera, and you do min 95 to SpDef Garganacl if you don't tera. You can keep the Tera Grass if you want, or change for something else to boost one of your stabs such as Tera Water.
  • PhysDef Bold Pelipper instead of the current one. Minus Speed nature is often used to get the slow U-turn against Corviknight. I don't think you need to do that here since you have lead Glimmora. PhysDef would also allow you to take a hit in an emergency. On the same note try Roost > Knock Off. This set should be alright.
  • Liquidation > Crunch on Floatzel. Its good to have a reliable Water-type attack without recoil. Crunch doesn't hit much other than Dragapult which you already hit with Ice Spinner.
  • Timid > Naive on Glimmora. Just a small change, you don't need the damage from Mortal Spin so you can run a minus Attack nature.
  • Tera Fighting Focus Blast Gholdengo. Should help a lot with Kingambit. This isn't the ideal solution but its probably the best we can do without altering the structure too much.
As a general observation you can deal with Rotom-W with this team overwhelming it. Remember you are using rain, so play aggro! All the Pokemon you mentioned, as well as Dragonite, will be issues just cause of the nature of rain. Don't be afraid to sack a Pokemon when you have to. Be very careful about Dragonite! Trick it if you can, don't let it set up at all costs. A cute tech you can try if Dragonite continues being a massive headache is Tera Ghost Floatzel or Greninja to turn immune into Extreme Speed, but I would keep the current teras for now and see how it goes. Here is the paste with the above changes. Hope some of them can help c:

love seeing rain becoming more popular, have you tried running thunder on :dragalge:? It hits pretty hard and takes advantage of rain
I also want OP to use Poliwhirl because it gave me a lot of trouble with a scald + rain dance set once. You can run fighting moves in sync!

I didn't know it got thunder lmao. Good suggestion. But i'm opting for pump+focus because often times it operates outside of rain, and thunder doesn't really hit anything notable.

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't even notice Glimmora was naive instead of timid lol
