[SET COMMENTS]

Grumpig can work as a lead in UU to get your team off to a good start. Magic Coat means status gets bounced back, and can immediately stop the likes of Persian and Venomoth who may try to sleep you, while you then Reflect, or predict a switch and Thunder Wave. To give you an idea of its defensive capabilities, it also survives Jolly Choice Band Primeape’s U-Turn while it can OHKO Primeape with Psychic. The EV spread also gives you a 46% chance to OHKO standard Rapid Spin Hitmontop, who can only really Toxic you for damage, which can be reflected back through Magic Coat.

Hidden Power Bug is used for darks, namely Absol, who you have a 20% chance to OHKO, although Hidden Power Ice can be used to hit Altaria and Leafeon harder. Reflect is used to buffer hits and for team support, while Thunder Wave can paralyze threats who think they are switching in easily. Counter is an option to help against Persian and Primape, who's U-Turn's will not OHKO, so you can hit the switch-in hard, for a possible KO.

persian might just fake out+ u turn/bite. venomoth can just use bug buzz. primeape can also just use u-turn. also consider focus blast, does loads of damage to steelix and clefable.

Jolly Life Orb Technician Persian

31.55% - 37.5% Fake Out
48.81% - 57.74% U-Turn

To give you some idea. And as soon as you see Fake Out you should probably switch. I've found most Persian's tend to Hypnosis you.

I would add Focus Blast but I think there might be too much "slashitis" =/

EDIT: Also, Venomoth almost always Sleep Powders in fear of Psychic, so it ca get down TSPikes easier. (:

There are some grammar issues which I'll fix up in a bit in an edit and you aren't very specific. What does "it also survives Jolly Choice Band Primeape’s best attacks" mean? What is my chance to OHKO Absol etc. Fix up those vague things. Now, about the set itself.

I run a similar lead in UU, except I use Girafarig and I question if Girafarig wouldn't be more useful in this role? The only reason I ask this is because of how common the Fake Out + U-Turn leads are in UU and Girafarig has the ability Inner Focus. Granted Grumpig has Think Fat and better special defense but most of the UU leads are physical anyway and Grumpig's physical defense is only marginally better and I think the issue of whether Inner Focus on Girafarig makes it more useful in this regard. I'm really not sure but considering I lead with a similar type lead I think it's worthy of at least discussing. To differentiate this from Girafarig and make it clearly different one could consider Trick. Just throwing a thought out there.

cool set though :).

Okay, ill edit it to "it also survives a Jolly Primape's Choice Banded U-Turn"?

And the absol bit to "who you have a 20% chance to OHKO".

About the Girafarig bit, I find Grumpig useful even in mid-late game, im not sure if you do with Gira? And Thick Fat is a big plus, meaning you can still come in on certain special (and physical) hits, and "wall". About the Girafarig bit, I feel as though Grumpig is more useful overall, due to Thick Fat and better special defense.

About Trick, im not sure that is viable either :( While its a awesome idea, you lose ExpertBelt (and without it, possible OHKOs turn into 2HKOs etc).

Whoa, Scrubs, how long have you been back?

I think Thunder Wave and Magic Coat are kind of redundant, but it does help Grumpig to do something after leading a team.

Thanks Scrubs <3

Chris, Magic Coat is probably the "most important" move on this set, at least I have found it to be. Otherwise you just get put the sleep. Sure, I could use Lum, but Magic Coat also puts them to sleep, putting the match in your favour. Thunder Wave is mainly for predicting switches, although IMO it IS inferior to Reflect, its still useful (:

You need a space between Expert and Belt, could Life Orb be a good alternitive item? I know its a bit counterproductive with the fact that you are quite bulky, but it could help with some KOs (It would now 1KO Hitmontop 92% of the time, and 4 HP Absol 66% of the time.) and also do quite a bit more to foes that it does not hit SE.

Counter would also be nice, if it can take some weaker physical hits that is.

Some calcs for common leads:
(All sets use normal evs/nature)
CBTop: Stone Edge:
(52.98% - 62.5%), Pursuit (42.86% - 50.6%)
It should switch anyway, and Psychic 1KOs some of the time.

CB Persian: Return (60.12% - 70.83%), U-Turn (56.55% - 66.67%),
Easy 1KO back with counter, if they U-Turn out their next Pokemon will almost always faint.

CB Ape: Stone Edge (51.79% - 61.01%), U-Turn (72.62% - 85.71%)
Easy 1KO, counter kills whatever comes in if it U-Turns.

Orb Swellow: Facade (94.64% - 111.61%) (66% of the time 1KO), U-Turn (63.69% - 75%). If you get Reflect up on their Protect:
Facade (47.62% - 56.25%), U-Turn (32.14% - 38.1%).
If you have reflect and predict right, you win. If not you could risk the 66% chance of them 1KOing you.

LO Scyther: X-Scissor easy OHKO.
Scarf Scyther:
X-Scissor (85.71% - 101.79%) (7% chance of 1KO)
You lose unless you want to risk it being LO or CB.

Thats enough.

So counter could work over Reflect, or possibly Hidden Power. Its main use is probably Countering U-Turns to take out the Pokemon they bring in.

Okay, edited Expert Belt.

Life Orb wouldn't work, because the EV spread is specific to not be OHKOd by certain attacks. EG. U-Turn/80 Power CB Punishment from Primeape. Nice idea though.

Im adding Counter to the last paragraph, the fact that it can hit something hard after a Primape/Persian U-Turn is just too good to pass up. Thanks for that.

this post is for jrrrrrrr's and Aldaron's purposes...

don't delete, set isn't on site and discussion and continue

Now that the platinum tutors have been implemented on shoddy, wouldn't signal beam be a better choice over HP bug? It has 5 more BP and the added chance of confusion.

Read Great Sage's announcement, Platinum moves (and Pokémon) aren't allowed to be posted yet, and won't be for at least a month or so.

But once we're allowed, yes it would.

We aren't writing anything about Platinum as of yet, and this set was a few weeks back before the changes on Shoddy were implemented.
