Gholdengo @ Leftovers
Ability: Good as Gold
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 216 HP / 96 Def / 168 SpD / 28 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Make It Rain
- Shadow Ball
- Protect
Gholdengo shines bright! Gholdengo is one of the metagame's premier sweepers, as Nasty Plot allows it to quickly boost its Special Attack, while Good as Gold keeps it safe from disruption that other setup sweepers face such as Spore, Taunt, and Encore. This spread lets it survive a Crunch from Jolly Chien-Pao and often a Shadow Ball from Choice Specs Flutter Mane. Make It Rain takes out Flutter Mane at +1 and Alolan Ninetales behind Aurora Veil. Shadow Ball hits Steel-resistant foes such as Assault Vest Iron Hands, which is 2HKOed after two Nasty Plot boosts. Tera Dragon is chosen to mitigate its weaknesses to Fire- and Ground-types such as Heatran and Landorus. To set up with Nasty Plot multiple times, damage reduction from Alolan Ninetales's Aurora Veil is a big help. Rillaboom is another great teammate, as Fake Out provides extra opportunities to setup, and between Grassy Terrain and Leftovers recovery, Gholdengo becomes very difficult to remove. Tornadus provides necessary speed control with Tailwind to outrun Choice Scarf Landorus and Choice Specs Flutter Mane, and may also set rain to reduce the damage of Fire-type moves. Gholdengo struggles with Tera Fire or Steel Kommo-o, which resists Make It Rain and is immune to Shadow Ball, so a teammate such as Volcanion can assist with this matchup.
