SS OU Don't Rain on my parade -Rain team.

Welcome to my latest rate my team, don't rain on my parade. With the advent of the DlC rain got a big buff mainly in the form of rain team heavy weight kingdra. While not at full power untill the crown tundra due to releases from other rain staples like tapu koko, rain netherless is going strong atm and can easily plow through even prepared teams with ease.

Pelipper @ Damp Rock
279.png

Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Roost
- U-turn
- Hurricane

Peliper is a rain team staple, mainly as it's the best setter of rain allowed in ou. This is Largely owed to a decent defensive typing, and a solid movepool that includes little gems such as roost, U-turn, defog and hurricane. With that said pelipper makes it's appearance with it's standard defensive rain support set. The eves are poured into Defence and Hp with a bold nature to make proper use of pelipper best defensive stat and allow it to take hits through out the match so it can continue to come in and set up rain for the team and tank the odd physical hit to which it's typing helps with a ground immunity and a fighting ressist. The move choice is pretty straight forward for a defensive build -Scald is an amazaing stab with a 30% burn chance and 100% accuracy so it's a no brainer, roost is one of the main reasons pelipper is better than politoad giving it longevity throughout the match to continue to set up rain, U-turn is another great move that allows pelipper to privot out and bring in a rain sweeper and counter to trying kill pelipper, and finnally we have hurricane it's powerful 100% accurate in rain flying type stab that makes up for pelippers lack luster special attack and hits grass types that ressist scald hard. A damp rock is the natural choice for this set over say heavy duty boots as getting that extra 3 turns from drizzle is manditory.

Kingdra @ Choice Specs
230.png

Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Draco Meteor
- Hurricane
- Flip turn

The king of rain teams is back! Kingdra thanks to a fantastic water/dragon typing has great defensive and offensive typing sporting only 2 weakness and 3 ressist 2 of which is 4x to which the water ressist is particularly helpful, and acess to swift swim with decent stats across the board it's no wonder he is a staple of rain teams from gens gone by. A modest nature allows kingdra to max it's special attack over speed as kingdra already has an impressive 538 speed under the rain and 95 special attack is a bit lacking for a sweper so the eves go in special attack and speed to hit hard and fast and a Choice specs is used to further make up for the okay but nothing special attack without the wear and tear of a life orb, it's only attacking on the special side anyways. The move choice is pretty simple- Hydro pump is insane powerful stab in the rain, draco meteor is powerful dragon coverage, hurricane is a powerful flying stab that can rape tanky grass types that come in to sponge a hydro pump, and finally , flip turn allows kingdra to pivot out more easily while giving a little chip damage for the team.

Scizor @ Leftovers

212.png

Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 124 Def / 136 SpD
Impish Nature
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Roost

- Knock off

Ditching ferrothorn for scizor on the suggestion of guardian of the sand. scizor joins the team to give it some much needed momentum. Like ferrothorn before it scizor benifits from the sun by down grading it's 4x fire weakness to a 2x one making it easier for sizor to switch in on a varity of threats that may have a weak fire move to ko it. The set is a mixed tank set that allows scizor to make use of it's excellent typing and movepool to gain the momentum on opponets and tank the odd hit from fellow team mates who patch up his fire weakness as well. The eves are standard with 248 rounding nicely at a stealth rock number and 124 in defence and 136 Sp DEfence to make use of that typing for good overall mixed bulk to tank hits from either side of the attacking spectrum easier. The move choice is pretty straight forward too -knock off allows scizor to remove items, roost a great healing move to keep longevity on scizor. bullet punch is excellent stab against the likes of fairy types, and U-turn is the great momentum generator for the team.

Seismitoad @ Life Orb
537.png

Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Earth Power
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock

Seismitoad is megaswampert lite but that doesn't make it any less important for this team, not only does it free up spikes on ferrothorn by setting up stealth rock in it's stead but provides much needed electric immunity for the team and is in it's self a solid user of swift swim with a great special move pool and a typing that is great offensively and defensively. Like kingdra we go for modest nature here as his special attack is a bit sub par but unlike kingdra seismitoad has the flexibility of a life orb in order to change moves after more often or not setting up stealth rock so the eves also go in speed and special attack to maximise it's special attacking offensive capibilities. The move choice is pretty standard for toad - We have stealth rock to wear down opponets and make it easier to get into KO range, pretty standard on most teams and more helpful with two special attackers with okay special attack, Hydro pump is powerful stab and makes up[ for a low base special attack, earthpower is strong ground stab, and Toxic as suggested byguardian of the sand allows seismitoad to cripple switch ins such as mantine.

Urshifu-Rapid-Strike @ Choice Band
892-r.png

Ability: Unseen Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Surging Strikes
- Close Combat
- Zen Headbutt
- Aqua Jet

Like keldeo in the past Urshifu takes full advantage of it's stellar fighting/water typing in the rain with the added befit of providing the team with a much needed physical attacker and one of the best aspects of Urshifu is surging strikes which getting 100% crit chance and is further bosted by the rain giving some pretty beefy damage and easily plowing through subsitutes is need be with ease. The adamant nature allows for maximium damage output with aqua jet making up for the loss in speed and it's further boosted by the rain to make up for it's sub par base power, the eves go in attack and speed maxed to tie up to base neutral fellow Urshifu's. The move choice allows for - Surging strikes to get that rain bosted nutty sub breaking stab, close combat as a powerful fighting stab, Zen head butt helps it take on poison types and other fighting types with relitive ease, Aqua jet is stab rain boosted priority that makes up for the loss in speed by running adamant over jolly to pick off threats. A choice abdn was chosen as it allows it to plow straight through threats with utter ease and there isn't the need for the life orb flexbility with it only wearing it down.

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
479-w.png

Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 20 SpA / 240 Spe
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Defog

- Pain Split

Rotom-w has been religated to the uu tier as it's oven form takes it's place as the top appliance in ou, however on rain teams rotom-w can find it's time to shine as the superior choice in over used. With it's fantastic typing and acess to hydro pump rotom-w can take full advantage of the weather and help support the team better than starmie could. As we dropped ferrothorn for scizor loosing spikes means a defogger is more practical for the team than a rappid spinning starmie and rotom-w is just the applicance for the job. Like scizor 248 reaches a Sr number, while 20 Special attack eves for a little extra damage with 216 and a timid nature to just reach 294 speed which just outpaces neutral natured ushifu with a tmid nature. The move choice allow rotom the ability be a very felxiable utility role -Volt switch allows rotom to gather momentum for the team, hydro pump is powerful stab in the rian even with little investment, defog removes the hazards that hurt pelipper especially, and finaly pain split is the only real way rotom-w has to heal and it hurts the opponet too, useful against the likes of chansey/blissey for full recovery too.

Hey just wanted to say I actually used this team and everything works well for rain. The differences in my version of your team are down below.

Here are some changes I would recommend/experiment with:

Major Changes
Scizor | Pixel Art Maker
>
Ferrothorn sprites gallery | Pokémon Database

Scizor @ Leftovers
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 124 Def / 136 SpD
Impish Nature
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Roost
- Knock Off

Choice Band Terrakion Close Combat: 69-81.3%
Choice Band Urshifu Wicked Blow/Close Combat: 76-89.5%
Choice Band Rillaboom Grassy Glide: 13.9-16.3%
Choice Band Rillaboom Woodhammer: 23.9-27.9%
Unburden Hawlucha Close Combat: 39.6-47.2%
Magnet Zeraora Plasma Fists: 41.9-49.2%
Rotom-Wash/Rotom-Heat Volt Switch: 24.4-29.1%

Immediately when looking at this team, it was easy to see the lack of momentum. No Flip-Turn/U-Turn users which is crucial on rain teams as you will be switching very often to try to set up a position for a potential sweep with Kingdra. Also with how rampant Rillaboom is in OU right now, gaining momentum on that mon is paramount.

I think Scizor works better due to the fact it is neutral to fighting, 4x Resistant to Psychic which hard punishes Alakazam/Indeedee, and offers a lot of momentum. Scizor can very easily switch into Grassy Glide spam all day because of its EV spread for Defense, while allowing for U-Turn momentum to be gained. The SpD EVs are mainly there to help make Scizor a safer pivot and give it more flexibility when coming in on certain threats. Bullet Punch is very helpful for chip and priority, U-Turn allows you to gain more momentum/force your opponent into worse positions, Roost allows Scizor to be an almost unkillable wall, and Knock Off for general support. You can run Defog with a good amount of success, but Rapid Spin Starmie is already on the team, so maybe a bit overkill.

Ferrothron is okay, but I feel like you lose a lot of momentum when switching Ferrothorn in, since you can't U-Turn out immediately on the switch in. Another issue with the loss of momentum with Ferrothorn is, I really needed to make very aggressive double switches, while with Scizor it is much easier. Plus, the fighting neutrality really does make punishing/tanking Urshifu/Terrakion/HJK Cinderace much easier. I usually lead with Scizor and U-turn in Pelipper or Knock Off on their lead switch out. I've noticed almost everyone leads with Cinderace, which can make leading Scizor a little risky. The biggest advantage Scizor has is the ability to U-Turn and keep up the pressure.

With the Urshifu Calcs, it's worth noting that Scizor is not meant to outright tank those hits. Switch in on a Close Combat, and either predict their switch out and go for Roost/U-turn, or punish with Bullet Punch. If you Bullet Punch Urshifu after a Close Combat, Urshifu will take 41.6-49.2% which is more than enough for your other rain abusers to take advantage of, or even outright pickup the KO. Ferrothorn drops to Banded Close Combat and Scizor lives. The fighting neutrality really does make a major difference.

Something I've noticed is when switching into Rillaboom on a Grassy Glide/Woodhammer, most players will switch out into Cinderace/Volcarona. You can predict this and U-Turn out, and switch in Pelipper to set up rain yet again or outright wall those mons. Then you can U-Turn out with Pelipper into a rain abuser. In 3 turns you have put the pressure back onto the opposing team, and set up rain yet again.

Minor Changes

Seismitoad | Pokemon Wack Wiki | Fandom

Toxic > Focus Miss

Mantine crushes every rain team, and being able to put anything on a timer is very helpful. Toxic can really make a difference in pushing rolls towards your favor. Plus, Banded Close Combat Urshifu is already on the team.

Heavy Duty Boots > Damp Rock

If Starmie goes down and you aren't running Defog on Scizor, Pelipper is screwed. Heavy Duty Boots allows Pelipper to set up infinite rain, which makes winning weather wars much easier. I value more opportunities to set up rain versus longer rain duration. With U-Turn Scizor, maintaining rain is much easier.

Alternatives

Kingdra | Pokemon Wack Wiki | Fandom

Flip Turn > Hydro Pump

Very debatable decision. I think Flip Turn Kingdra is a viable option for rain. Essentially, this allows you to gain momentum on defensive switch ins. Hurricane covers a lot of this as you will most likely be using Flip Turn on Rillaboom/Ferrothorn/Tangrowth. I will say Flip Turn shines on predicting fairy switch ins. By Flip Turning on Clefable or even Chansey, you can begin to pressure with Bullet Punch/Knock Off Scizor, or get in Banded Urshifu much easier. Again, this is another method to keep your opponent playing more defensively while you are able to chip everything down.

Since Heavy Duty Boots Pelipper is a consideration, Rapid Spin Starmie is not as pivotal as before.
Here are some possible replacements for Starmie that I think could work well on this team:

Azumarill | Pokemon Wack Wiki | Fandom

Azumarill @ Salac Berry
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Ice Punch

An absolutely disgusting thing. At +1 speed with Jolly, you are at 327 which outspeeds Urshifu. Even if you are Adamant, +1 is still 298 which is faster than Banded Scizor. The decision between Adamant and Jolly is up for debate, but the power from Adamant Aqua Jet under rain is very scary. The Salac Berry allows you to "out priority" many common priority users, and helps a lot with Azumarill's poor speed.
Crawdaunt sprites gallery | Pokémon Database

Crawdaunt @ Life Orb
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Crabhammer
- Aqua Jet
- Knock Off

Another very dangerous Aqua Jet spammer. STAB + Life Orb + Adaptability makes Knock Off a very dangerous threat that forces your opponent to reconsider switching out in front of this.

Rotom-Mow @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Will-O-Wisp
- Volt Switch
- Leaf Storm

I know this is a very weird choice, but I really like going against the common meta. Rotom Mow would be for punishing any offensive attacker like Rillaboom/Urshifu/Bisharp with Will-O-Wisp, then offering Volt-Switch momentum. This can also really help out against opposing rain and sand teams as Nasty Plot + Leaf storm is a very effective screen nuke.

Starmie | Pokémon Wiki | Fandom

Starmie @ Life Orb
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Dazzling Gleam
- Psychic

I think Starmie can have a place on this team, but maybe as an all out attacking set. Dazzling Gleam for coverage against Dark/Dragon Types. Just another way to keep coverage and some speed control outside of rain.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hope these changes make sense/help. Overall, a solid rain team I really think the only necessary change is Scizor and Heavy Duty Boots on Pelipper

I think Rotom Mow could work but it just invites in Cinderance too easily and is weak to U-Turn. With how much of a nuisance Cinderace U-Turn is in OU I'm not sure it's completely viable. Like I said I think it could work, but Cinderace would be a major factor in limiting its usefulness. Same goes for Banded Rillaboom with U-Turn as well.

I agree with HDB on Pelipper and Toxic on Toad but sacrificing Specs Hydro Pump Rain nukes is a tough sell. I think flip turn is a competitive option but I think the power from Hydro Pump is too much to lose.

Overall good changes and good team.

Thanks for the advice guys, i've remove ferrothorn and added scizor on your advice along with my own personal change for starmie to defog rotom as loosing my own hazards isn't as much of an issue now. TY
