[SET COMMENTS]
Excadrill is a passable setup sweeper due to its doubled Speed under sand, allowing it to outpace Speed-boosting Pokemon like +1 Volcarona and Booster Energy Iron Moth and Iron Valiant. It is able to threaten out and thus potentially gain setup opportunities against staples like Galarian Slowking, Heatran, and Tapu Koko. Unfortunately, its frailty and inability to consistently set up against Pokemon like Ogerpon-W and Landorus-T make it a less desirable option on the teams which it would otherwise fit on. Iron Head in tandem with Steelium Z allows Excadrill to crush potential checks like Great Tusk and Landorus-T when boosted. Rapid Spin gives Excadrill some utility in removing entry hazards, and can also be used as a way to boost Excadrill’s relatively low Speed outside of sand. Tera Ice with Tera Blast allows Excadrill to lure and remove Zapdos, Gliscor, and Landorus-T. Tera Blast with Tera Electric can be used instead to lure and remove Alomomola, Corviknight, and Slowbro. Air Balloon is the item of choice if Excadrill’s team already has a Z-Move user, as it allows Excadrill to gain setup opportunities against Gliscor and Landorus-T. Excadrill requires sand to function properly, so Mega Tyranitar is an essential teammate. Mega Tyranitar can also setup Stealth Rock, allowing Excadrill’s checks like Landorus-T and Gliscor to be worn down throughout a game while also taking care of Pokemon like Zapdos and Slowbro by wearing them down with Pursuit. Mega Tyranitar also uses Knock Off to remove items from Excadrill’s checks, such as Leftovers from Landorus-T and Ferrothorn and Heavy-Duty Boots from Zapdos. Excadrill has issues with its low defenses, especially outside of sand where it has poor Speed, so a defensive backbone consisting of Pokemon that help against threats like Landorus-T and Urshifu-R, such as Toxapex and Corviknight, is greatly appreciated. Excadrill has trouble muscling through and forcing progress against Pokemon like Dondozo, Corviknight, and Ferrothorn, so teammates like Raging Bolt, Ogerpon-W, and Iron Valiant are good partners to help break through them; Ogerpon-W and Raging Bolt are especially valuable due to their Water-type resistance against foes like other Ogerpon-W and Urshifu-R. In return, they appreciate Excadrill threatening Pokemon like Mega Tyranitar, Galarian Slowking, and opposing Raging Bolt.
