[OVERVIEW]
Dialga stands out as one of the metagame's premier special attackers. Its typing allows it to resist attacks from many of the metagame's common threats such as Kyogre, Zacian-C and Regieleki while it deals good damage in return. It also has access to good Dynamax options, with Max Wyrmwind, Max Quake, and Max Steelspike all bolstering its bulk. The main drawbacks to using Dialga are its reliance on team support in order to mitigate Ground-type hits from threats such as Groudon and Landorus-T, as well as its lack of spread moves, which makes it harder to pin down opposing Pokemon. Its Speed tier is also somewhat crowded at base 90, which is less than ideal for Trick Room.
[SET]
name: Offensive
move 1: Roar of Time / Draco Meteor
move 2: Flash Cannon
move 3: Earth Power
move 4: Protect / Trick Room
item: Weakness Policy / Life Orb / Adamant Orb
ability: Pressure / Telepathy
nature: Modest
evs: 252 HP / 236 SpA / 20 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
* Roar of Time serves as Dialga's strongest move providing a 150BP Max Wyrmwind. Draco Meteor is an alternative option as it is easier to use outside of Dynamax as it doesn't need a turn to recharge. Either move allows Dialga to hit Pokemon such as Palkia and Reshiram that would otherwise resist Flash Cannon.
* Flash Cannon provides Max Steelspike to boost Dialga's already good Defense and lets it target Fairy- and Ice-types such as Grimmsnarl, Xerneas and Calyrex-I.
* Earth Power gives Dialga coverage to break through opposing Steel-types such as Zacian-C, opposing Dialga, and Solgaleo. It also allows Dialga to use Max Quake to boost its Special Defense when Dynamaxed, allowing it to better stand up to Kyogre and Calyrex-S.
* Protect offers better positioning outside of Dynamax for generally safer play. Trick Room offers a form of speed control for the team if it does not have one already.
* Weakness Policy is the primary item as Dialga boasts a huge amount of bulk when Dynamaxed, so it can take super effective attacks to further boost its already great Special Attack. Life Orb and Adamant Orb can also be considered, as they are generally more consistent damage boosting items, but they offer less of a boost in return. Life Orb comes at the cost of recoil, but it also boosts the power of Earth Power, unlike Adamant Orb.
* 20 Speed EVs allow Dialga to outspeed maximum Speed Timid Lapras as well as Zacian-C and Calyrex-S in Tailwind.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Thunder is an alternative coverage option to better target Ho-Oh, and Kyogre to a lesser extent, although it generally isn't recommended. Dialga already combats Kyogre well due to its high special bulk and Water resistance, and often its Dragon-type STAB move will be sufficient against Ho-Oh. Also not running Earth Power makes Dialga lose access to Max Quake as its primary way to break through Steel-types.
