[SET COMMENTS]
Thanks to its great bulk, unique typing, excellent Status moves, and phenomenal ability in Levitate, Rotom-W finds itself as one of the best bulky defensive pivots in the entirety of the National Dex OU metagame. Volt Switch allows Rotom-W to switch out of unfavorable matchups like Ogerpon-W and Ferrothorn, both which would otherwise OHKO or take advantage of it, damage any non-Ground, Lightning Rod, or Volt Absorb Pokemon, and keeps momentum for the balance teams that it’s found on most of the time while also bringing in a teammate or an appropriate check. With access to Hydro Pump, boosted by STAB, Rotom-W can hit if not KO opposing pivots and wall Pokemon that despise Water-type moves such as Gliscor, Landorus-T, and Garganacl, as well as specially defensive weak Pokemon such as Great Tusk and Iron Boulder instantly, making it very hard for them to set up or even come in while Rotom-W is still out on the field. Pain Split is another great move to have on Rotom-W, as it can help it to remain healthy if under any circumstances its Leftovers gets removed via Knock Off, that way, it can preserve while also punishing the attacker. Will-O-Wisp and Thunder Wave are both very good Status moves to have on Rotom-W. Will-o-Wisp can deny any recovery from Leftovers and Thunder Wave weaken and slow down numerous checks towards Rotom-W such as Aegislash, Zamazenta, and Celesteela, making their jobs much harder and granting them less time to either set up on or attack Rotom-W before getting knocked out. Tera Steel let’s Rotom-W gain more resistance towards Fairy-type Pokemon such as Tapu Lele and immunity from Toxic and Poison-type moves, while gaining a Fighting and Fire weakness as a cost, while Tera Fairy let’s Rotom-W become immune to Dragon-Types who would other wise resist it and it’s STAB moves. Enamorus, Magnezone, and Skarmory can help Rotom-W deal with Dragons such as Choice Band Dragonite, Raging Bolt, and opposing Gouging Fire, as well as Grass-type walls like Ferrothorn and Mega Venusaur that Rotom-W cannot break. Gliscor and Landorus-T provide entry hazard as well as form a VoltTurn core with Rotom-W. Tapu Lele and Iron Valiant break even the bulkiest of walls such as Toxapex, Ting-Lu, and Garganacl, so that Rotom-W can have a much easy time bringing in wallbreakers with Volt Switch, such as Excadrill and Mega Latias, and pivot itself and it’s teammates in and out when
necessary.
