:sv/garganacl:

Do you think Garganacl feels ashamed about becoming the very thing it resists?

[SET]
name: Curse
move 1: Curse
move 2: Salt Cure
move 3: Recover
move 4: Protect / Earthquake
item: Leftovers
ability: Purifying Salt
nature: Careful
tera type: Ghost / Water
evs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

* With Curse's well-known different effect for Ghost-types being brought into play by Terastallization, Garganacl makes dangerous and diverse use of the move!

* **Tera Ghost Curse**: If using Tera Ghost, Curse will change its effect, which drastically changes Garganacl's playstyle. While the 50% health cut can make it a tad risky, the Curse affliction is very powerful at wearing down Pokemon, including major foes that take advantage of Salt Cure, such as Covert Cloak Pokemon, bulky Substitute users, and Espathra Baton Pass chains. When combined with Salt Cure, it can even overwhelm bulky Pokemon with recovery, such as Dragonite.

* **Curse and Earthquake**: Ghost Curse unfortunately does not work against Gholdengo, so using regular Curse alongside Earthquake makes Garganacl far less passive against against Gholdengo and frail Substitute users such as Flutter Mane. This is especially recommended if using other Tera types.

Tera Types
========

* **Ghost**: In addition to being a great defensive typing that leaves Garganacl with only a weakness to Dark thanks to Purifying Salt, this is the Tera type that enables the unique properties of Curse.

* **Water**: If messing with Gholdengo is the goal, Tera Water is an excellent choice, resisting the powerful Make It Rain and being a good defensive typing in general.

* **Steel**: Tera Steel works very well against Flutter Mane and makes for a Make It Rain resistance against Gholdengo. However, retaining the Ground and Fighting weaknesses means it doesn't change as many matchups as other Tera types.

* **Flying**: Tera Flying has excellent synergy with Garganacl's former typing, making it immune to Dondozo's Fissure and giving it a much better matchup against Meowscarada and Great Tusk. However, this comes at the cost of still making it vulnerable to Iron Bundle.

Got this ready for a QC check!

I'm not quite sure how I should handle the Tera Ghost Curse talk, if its better to talk about it in tera types or the regular comments, because I think it does look weird how huge the Tera Ghost section is otherwise. But, it's also a pretty important part of this set, so the Ghost Curse talk has to go somewhere. I guess I could make it bullet point like "Tera Ghost Curse" if that looks better.

curse garg is very funny in the sense that tera water/tera whatever with earthquake and tera ghost with protect operate so differently that they might as well be different sets. right now i'd say that the ghost set is better and the analysis should reflect that, but the metagame is so fluid anyway that if this changes it shouldn't be too to edit

move 4 should be protect / earthquake

ghost should be mentioned before any other tera type (atm), tera flying lost some relevancy in series 2, tera-ing from being weak to an iron bundle typing to the other one is generally not great. i'd remove that from the main mentions personally

have a bullet point mentioning that garganacle can use curse to boost its defense and attack, but that the main appeal is in being able to use tera ghost curse to disrupt non gholdengo covert cloak mons and (espathra) baton pass chains, as well as substitute users and mons with recovery that salt cure on its own isnt enough to break past (basically, move what you wrote about tera ghost curse above the eq line). second bullet point (the current one should be something along the lines of "alternatively, garg can use curse in tandem with earthquake in order to have a better gholdengo mach up")

tera steel's main target is flutter mane, prob wanna mention that

leftovers should be the only mentioned item since both curse playstyles greatly benefit from passive recovery moreso than the recovery burst provided by sitrus, like this set would honestly be the biggest leftovers hog in the meta if moody glalie didn't exist

consider this qc checked after going through all of these
