[OVERVIEW]
Cryogonal distinguishes itself from other Ice-types like Vanilluxe and Piloswine by being the fastest Rapid Spin user in the tier. Thanks to Levitate, it's immune to Spikes, Toxic Spikes, and Sticky Web, making them easier for it to remove. Levitate also gives it a niche over other Rapid Spin users like Hitmonlee and Hitmontop. Unlike other Ice-types, Cryogonal has access to a healing move in Recover, improving its longevity. With its high Special Defense stat, it's able to take neutral special hits relatively well, even when uninvested. Cryogonal is one of the tier's best Ice-resistant Pokemon, letting it check Vanilluxe, one of the biggest threats in the metagame. Unfortunately, being weak to Stealth Rock means it'll take 25% damage upon switching in, thus hindering its role as a spinner as well as its ability to take hits. Cryogonal's physical frailty also makes it an easy target for physical attackers like Emboar and Hitmonlee. Fire-types are one of its main fears bacause its STAB moves don't threaten them. Furthermore, although it has the bulk and recovery to survive a few hits, Cryogonal's only resistance is Ice.

Moves
========
Rapid Spin lets Cryogonal clear entry hazards to support its teammates. Freeze-Dry lets it hit Water-types like Slowbro and Vaporeon super effectively, a trait that not many Ice-type possess. Freeze-Dry is significantly weaker than Ice Beam, however, having a lower chance of OHKOing Pokemon like Sceptile, Rotom-C, Sigilyph, and +1 Vivillon and being unable to 2HKO Golbat. Toxic cripples defensive answers that Cryogonal can't really hurt such as Assault Vest Incineroar and Piloswine. Alternatively, Ice Beam is Cryogonal's strongest STAB move and hits spinblockers the hardest. Recover allows it to tank special hits and stay healthy throughout the match.
Set Details
========
Maximum offensive investment with a Timid nature is preferred so that Cryogonal can use Rapid Spin before it faints in as many situations as possible and outspeed Sigilyph, +1 Scrafty, and positive-natured Pokemon with base 95 Speed. Levitate lets Cryogonal avoid Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Sticky Web, and Ground-type attacks. Never-Melt Ice boosts Cryogonal's STAB moves. Leftovers can be used to give it passive recovery and reduce its Stealth Rock weakness. Icium Z can be used to alleviate its Knock Off weakness slightly and give it a more favorable matchup versus some entry hazard setters, including Rhydon, Steelix, Garbodor, and Ferroseed, and hits common switch-ins very hard; for example, Emboar takes 45-53%, making it very difficult to switch into Cryogonal later on.
Usage Tips
========
Cryogonal's high Speed stat allows it to use Rapid Spin in emergency situations, and it can reliably spin on Pokemon it's able to threaten like Sceptile, Whimsicott, and Xatu. Cryogonal's good special bulk allows it to switch into defensive Pokemon such as Jellicent, Uxie, and Xatu. Use this as an opportunity to whittle them down with STAB moves or a utility move like Toxic or Knock Off. If the opponent has Spiritomb, be wary when you use Rapid Spin. Spiritomb can switch in on a predicted spin to block it and Pursuit trap Cryogonal. Use Recover on predicted weak special hits and Pokemon locked into Ice- or Ground-type attacks. When switching into Psychic-types, be careful of Psyshock, since Cryogonal is physically frail.
Team Options
========
Good teammates are Pokemon that appreciate entry hazards being removed from your side of the field such as Vivillon, Braviary, and Delphox. Offensive Water-types like Omastar and Samurott benefit from Cryogonal's ability to deal with Grass-types like Whimsicott and Rotom-C and bulky Water-types like Slowbro, Vaporeon, and Seismitoad. Partners that can take physical attacks, like Steelix and Slowbro, are a must. Incineroar in particular is a good teammate for Cryogonal. It can take on other Fire-types and beats the common Pursuit users. In return, Cryogonal beats Water-types with Freeze-Dry and removes hazards.

Other Options
=============
A defensive set with an EV spread of 252 HP / 224 Def / 32 Spe, a Bold nature, and Leftovers can be used on more defensive teams and has the bulk to survive two Leaf Storms from Choice Specs Rotom-C while also taking significantly less damage from Pursuit users. Alternatively, an EV spread of 248 HP / 104 SpD / 156 Spe, a Calm nature, and Leftovers let it take a Choice Specs-boosted Flash Cannon from Vanilluxe. Knock Off helps Cryogonal break through Pokemon it can't beat easily with Toxic and is a good utility move in general. Removing Golbat's Eviolite or Steelix's Leftovers can be very useful. Safety Goggles makes Cryogonal immune to Sleep Powder, letting it check Vivillon effectively while also switching in on Vileplume without many repercussions.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Stealth Rock**: Cryogonal loses 25% of its HP upon entering the field when Stealth Rock is up. This discourages it from switching in and thus hinders its job. Cryogonal is also not able to switch directly into Stealth Rock setters such as Rhydon and Steelix.
**Faster Physical Attackers**: Cryogonal's low Defense stat leaves it vulnerable to physical attackers like Virizion and Sneasel. On the other hand, fast physical attackers like Choice Scarf Hitmonlee and Choice Scarf Braviary don't safely switch into Cryogonal.
**Fire-types**: Fire-types like Emboar, Delphox, Incineroar, and Houndoom can switch into Cryogonal with almost no drawbacks, leaving Cryogonal with no choice other than switching out.
**Fighting-types**: Fighting-types such as Hitmonlee and Thick Fat Hariyama can switch on a Freeze-Dry and force Cryogonal out.
**Bulky Setup Sweepers**: Cryogonal can be used as setup fodder for many threats like Calm Mind Delphox, Malamar, Scrafty, Klinklang, and Mega Audino.
**Froslass**: Froslass can freely set up multiple layers of Spikes versus Cryogonal. Cryogonal, being unable to remove said Spikes, must either switch out or try to weaken Froslass with Knock Off.
**Pursuit**: Pursuit users, such as Sneasel, Skuntank, and Houndoom, exploit Cryogonal's low Defense stat and trap it with Pursuit. Spiritomb in particular can not only trap it with Pursuit but also spinblock it.
