Draft Crawdaunt

AceTrainerOrange

formerly orangelego21
[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 7 onwards

**Price Range**: 4-5 Points

**Overview**: Crawdaunt’s wallbreaking power is feared by many. With Adaptability, not much can withstand Crawdaunt's STAB combination defensively. However, the positives end there for Crawdaunt, as its poor Speed and bulk leave very little opportunity to wallbreak without pivoting teammates to get it in safely, and even then, it is often too slow to take advantage of this. Its one-dimensional role can often be filled quite easily with other, more flexible Pokemon.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Wallbreaker**: Crawdaunt can tear open holes with its strong STAB combination if brought in safely on passive or slower foes, allowing for its teammates to take advantage later in the game.

**Cleaner**: Using its priority option in Aqua Jet and setup moves, Crawdaunt can position itself to clean games with a free setup turn and adequate chip damage on opposing Pokemon.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Aqua Jet, Crabhammer, Crunch, Knock Off, Liquidation

**Setup Moves**: Swords Dance, Dragon Dance

**Utility Moves**: Endure, Taunt, Brick Break, Substitute

**Coverage**: Close Combat, Rock Slide, X-Scissor

Niche Moves
========
**Switcheroo**: Crawdaunt can use Switcheroo to give a Choice Band to unsuspecting passive walls expecting to eat a hit, crippling them for the remainder of the game.

**Special Attacks**: Crawdaunt can use special attacks and weaker coverage in Sludge Wave and Ice Beam, possibly alongside Nasty Plot, to help break past foes that may have good responses to a physical Crawdaunt.

**Endeavor**: Alongside a Focus Sash, Crawdaunt can use Endeavor to bring an opposing Pokemon down to low health if Crawdaunt cannot break through it using other options.

Common Items
========
**Choice Band**: Crawdaunt can utilize a Choice Band for immediate power and wallbreaking potential and doesn’t mind being locked in due to its minimal coverage options.

**Life Orb**: Life Orb can allow Crawdaunt some slight flexibility in its moveset and move selection in battles where clicking one move is less than ideal.

**Focus Sash**: Crawdaunt can use a Focus Sash to give itself a free turn for an attack or use the turn to set up.

Niche Items
========

**Lum Berry**: Crawdaunt can hold a Lum Berry to shake off status conditions that would otherwise hinder its wallbreaking potential.

**Other Damage-boosting Items**: Black Glasses and Mystic Water can give Crawdaunt a slight boost without the drawbacks of Life Orb or Choice Band.

**Custap Berry**: Custap Berry can be used alongside Endure to get one last KO or strong hit off before Crawdaunt goes down.

Tera
========
Crawdaunt often does not utilize Terastallization very well and therefore should not be considered for a Tera Captain. However, if Crawdaunt does become a Tera Captain, typings such as Fairy, Flying, and Ice can grant Crawdaunt the coverage it needs to break past foes that normally would take a hit from its STAB combination. However, its Water- and Dark-type moves lose their Adaptability boost when it doesn't Terastallize into those types, so you are better off choosing one of these types to boost its STABs even further.

Draft Strategy
========
Crawdaunt should aim to support offensively oriented rosters that need cheap wallbreakers with Knock Off that can break through Fire, Ground, and Psychic types.

**Pivots**: Pivots such as Galarian Slowking and Tornadus-T can all safely bring in Crawdaunt.

**Late-game Sweepers**: Pokemon like Iron Valiant, Iron Moth, and Roaring Moon love Crawdaunt’s wallbreaking power so they can sweep through weakened teams.

**Speed Control**: With Crawdaunt’s naturally low Speed, Pokemon such as Serperior, Zapdos, and Jirachi can spread paralysis and allow Crawdaunt to outpace certain threats that it could not before.

Checks and Counters
========
**Faster Pokemon**: Pokemon that naturally outpace Crawdaunt such as Meowscarada, Raging Bolt, and Rotom-W often KO it outright or have ways to punish Crawdaunt’s attacks; most of these Pokemon also still outpace Crawdaunt, even after a Dragon Dance.

**Bulky STAB-resistant Foes**: Pokemon that naturally take hits from Crawdaunt's STAB options and relatively weak coverage moves, such as Urshifu-R, Zarude, and Ogerpon-W can take a hit and fire back with a move to KO Crawdaunt.

**Colbur Berry**: Colbur Berry can be used by Pokemon such as Galarian Slowking, Sinistcha, and Gholdengo to bait in and punish Crawdaunt attempting to use Knock Off.

**Chip Damage**: Rocky Helmet, Life Orb recoil, and entry hazards can all limit Crawdaunt's opportunities to unleash strong hits.

**Draft Order**: Round 7 onwards

**Price Range**: 5-6 Points

**Overview**: Crawdaunt’s wall breaking power is feared by many. With Adaptability-boosted STAB, not much can withstand Crawdaunt defensively. alright I know Crawdaunt is both one-dimensional and bad but I'd give him just even half a setence more talking about how good his type is offensively, he doesn't have a lot going for him so we may as well mention what he's got However, the positives end there for Crawdaunt, as its poor speed and bulk leave very little opportunity to get breaking done without pivoting teammates to get it in safely. Its one-dimensional role can often be filled quite easily with other, more flexible pokemon.
can you fit "Mr. Craw" in here somewhere? *coughs*

**Late-game Cleaner**: Using its priority options and set-up moves, Crawdaunt can position itself to clean games with a free set-up turn and adequate chip on opposing pokemon. mention Aqua Jet, that's how Crawdaunt is getting any cleaning done

Common Moves

**Primary STAB Moves**: Aqua Jet, Crabhammer, Crunch, Knock Off, Liquidation, Razor Shell

**Setup Moves**: Dragon Dance, Swords Dance

**Utility Moves**: Endure, Taunt, Brick Break

**Coverage**: Close Combat, Rock Slide, X-Scissor

Niche Moves
========
**Switcheroo**: Crawdaunt can Switcheroo a Choice Band onto unsuspecting passive walls expecting to eat a hit and cripple them for the remainder of the game.

**Substitute**: Crawdaunt can use Substitute to ease predictions and avoid Status moves, often forcing opposing pokemon to stay in and take one hit guaranteed in order to break it.

**Nasty Plot**: Nasty Plot can boost Crawdaunt’s STAB special attacks to help break past foes that may anticipate a physically-bulky team.

**Sludge Wave**: Sludge Wave can be an option on mixed sets aimed at breaking specific pokemon in a match up, such as Ogerpon-Wellspring and Primarina, where physical moves may fall short of a KO. I'd combine both Nasty Plot and Sludge Wave into a "special attacks" niche where you mention that it can set up and how it gets new coverage

**Brick Break**: If the opposing team has prominent users of Light Screen, Reflect, or Aurora Veil, Crawdaunt can use Brick Break to remove the screens. just put this in Utility

**Endeavor**: well ya mentioned Custap and Focus Sash, so why not?

Common Items
========
**Choice Band**: Crawdaunt can utilize a Choice Band for immediate power and breaking potential, and doesn’t mind being locked in due to minimal coverage options.

========
**Lum Berry**: Crawdaunt can hold a Lum Berry to shake off status conditions that would otherwise hinder its breaking potential.

**Other damage-boosting items**: Black Glasses and Mystic Water can give Crawdaunt a slight boost without the drawbacks of Life Orb or Choice Band.

**Protective Pads**: Crawdaunt can protect itself from contact-effects such as Static or Rocky Helmet by using Protective Pads. I genuinely don't think Crawdaunt gets in enough hits to really care

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Heavy-Duty Boots can mitigate hazard chip that may limit the amount of opportunities Crawdaunt has to fire off hits.

**Custap Berry**: Custap Berry can be used alongside Endure to get one last KO or strong hit off before Crawdaunt goes down.

Tera
========
Crawdaunt often does not utilize Tera very well, as Adaptability is a key part of what makes Crawdaunt so strong and therefore should not be considered for a Tera Captain. this sentence could be written a bit less confusingly However, if Crawdaunt does choose to become a Tera Captain, typings such as Fairy, Flying, and Ice can grant Crawdaunt the coverage it needs to break past foes that normally take a hit. Water and Dark can also be used to boost one STAB option but beware of losing Adaptability-boosted hits on the other STAB.

Draft Strategy
========
Crawdaunt is not meant to be the centerpiece of a draft. generally I feel like anyone reading this analysis does not plan on building their team around Crawdaunt, and if they do, an analysis that tells them is going to be about as effective as telling a bank robber that stealing is bad. Instead, jump to what team archetypes in particular Crawdaunt works best on or something like that, talk about what makes Crawdaunt SPECIAL compared to the other million cheap wallbreakers Instead, it should be aiming to support rosters that need cheap wall breakers that can break through Fire, Ground, and Psychic types. Some ideas for teammates might be:

**Strong pivots**: Pivots such as Galarian Slowking, Raging Bolt, and Tornadus-Therian can all pivot and bring in Crawdaunt safely. mention Memento users maaaaaaybe...?

**Late-game sweepers**: Pokemon like Iron Valiant, Iron Moth, and Roaring Moon love Crawdaunt’s breaking power so they can sweep through weakened teams.

**Speed Control**: With Crawdaunt’s naturally low speed, pokemon such as Serperior, Zapdos, and Jirachi can spread paralysis and allow Crawdaunt to outpace certain threats it could not before.

**Fire-type pokemon**: Pokemon such as Gouging Fire and Chi-Yu can scare out some of the bulkier Grass-types that Crawdaunt may struggle with.

Checks and Counters
========
**Faster Pokemon**: Pokemon that naturally outpace Crawdaunt such as Meowscarada, Raging Bolt, and Rotom-Wash often kill it outright or have ways to punish Crawdaunt’s attacks, and most of these pokemon can still outpace Crawdaunt, even after a Dragon Dance.

**Bulky Grass-type pokemon**: Pokemon such as Zarude or Ogerpon-Wellspring can take a Crawdaunt hit naturally and KO back.

** Bulky Water-type pokemon**: Pokemon like Palafin, Urshifu-Rapid Strike, and Azumarill can take one hit and can often punish Crawdaunt with status or a strong attack.
I don't like it when a mon has five or more weaknesses, you can stuff the two of these into "bulky resists" (since you only mention mons that resist Water + Dark)

**Colbur Berry**: Colbur Berry can be used as a lure to bait in and punish Crawdaunt, and is used by pokemon such as Galairian Slowking and Gholdengo.

**Contact effects**: Rocky Helmet and certain abilities, such as Flame Body or Static, can punish Crawdaunt for firing off attacks. alright I'm on the fence about this one, the thing is Crawdaunt is so frail that any Static/Helmet user can just kill it immediately after, but you can leave this in and let the actual QC decide if you wish

**Entry Hazards**: Entry hazards limit the number of opportunities Crawdaunt can come in and dish out strong hits before going down.

mention how sludge wave/ice beam are still pretty weak without adaptability

good to mention how the tera + adaptability interaction works even if it isnt a good capitan

Crawdaunt should aim to support offensively oriented rosters that need cheap wall breakers with Knock Off that can break through Fire, Ground, and Psychic types. Some ideas for teammates might be:

**Strong pPivots**: Pivots such as Galarian Slowking and Tornadus-Therian and Memento users such as Sinistcha can all safely bring in Crawdaunt.
memento is a big investment for a mon that isnt particuarly good at setting up

most fire types resist fairy which also helps
this section needs a third mon as well so add something like iron moth here instead of in the sweeper section to illustrate switching into fairies

**Contact effects**: Rocky Helmet and certain abilities, such as Flame Body or Static, can punish Crawdaunt for firing off attacks.
it doesnt care that much about static para being burned is bad but there isnt a single flame body mon that wants to take a crabhammer or knock
rocky helmet is important to mention but in a more general chip damage section

**Entry Hazards**: Entry hazards limit the number of opportunities Crawdaunt can come in and dish out strong hits before going down.
since it isnt especially weak to hazards this can just be chip damage in general (lorb, helmet, etc.)

**Draft Order**: Round 7 onwards

**Price Range**: 5-6 4-5 Points crab hasnt been getting drafted at 5, think this is fair

**Overview**: Crawdaunt’s wall breaking power is feared by many. With Adaptability, not much can withstand Crawdaunt STAB defensively and live to tell the tale. However, the positives end there for Crawdaunt, as its poor speed and bulk leave very little opportunity to get breaking done without pivoting teammates to get it in safely, and even then it is often too slow to take advantage of this. Its one-dimensional role can often be filled quite easily with other, more flexible pokemon.

Common Roles
========
**Wallbreaker**: Crawdaunt can tear open holes with its strong STAB if brought in safely on passive or slower foes, allowing for its teammates to take advantage later in the game.

**Late-game Cleaner**: Using its priority option in Aqua Jet and set-up moves, Crawdaunt can position itself to clean games with a free set-up turn and adequate chip on opposing pokemon.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Aqua Jet, Crabhammer, Crunch, Knock Off, Liquidation

**Setup Moves**: Dragon Dance, Swords Dance prob switch these two if youre ordering by relevance

**Utility Moves**: Endure, Taunt, Brick Break, Substitute

**Coverage**: Close Combat, Rock Slide, X-Scissor, Hard Press

Niche Moves
========
**Switcheroo**: Crawdaunt can Switcheroo a Choice Band onto unsuspecting passive walls expecting to eat a hit and cripple them for the remainder of the game.

**Special Attacks**: Crawdaunt can use special attacks and weaker coverage in Sludge Wave and Ice Beam, possibly alongside Nasty Plot, to help break past foes that may have good responses to a physical Crawdaunt.

**Endeavor**: Alongside a Focus Sash, Crawdaunt can use Endeavor to bring an opposing pokemon down to low health if it cannot break through it using other options.

Common Items
========
**Choice Band**: Crawdaunt can utilize a Choice Band for immediate power and breaking potential and doesn’t mind being locked in due to minimal coverage options.

Niche Items
========

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Heavy-Duty Boots can mitigate hazard chip that may limit the number of opportunities Crawdaunt has to fire off hits. too frail

**Custap Berry**: Custap Berry can be used alongside Endure to get one last KO or strong hit off before Crawdaunt goes down.

Tera
========
Crawdaunt often does not utilize Tera very well and therefore should not be considered for a Tera Captain. However, if Crawdaunt does choose to become a Tera Captain, typings such as Fairy, Flying, and Ice can grant Crawdaunt coverage it needs to break past foes that normally take a hit from its STAB. Although, its Water- and Dark-type moves lose their Adaptability boost when it doesn't Tera into those types, and as such you are better off choosing one of these types to boost its STABs even further.

Draft Strategy
========
Crawdaunt should aim to support offensively oriented rosters that need cheap wall breakers with Knock Off that can break through Fire, Ground, and Psychic types.

**Pivots**: Pivots such as Galarian Slowking and Tornadus-Therian can all safely bring in Crawdaunt.

**Fire-type pokemon**: Pokemon such as Gouging Fire and Chi-Yu can scare out some of the bulkier Grass-types that Crawdaunt may struggle with and partners like Iron Moth can serve as resistances to Fairy. little too specific and not a necessity

Checks and Counters
========

**Bulky Resists**: Pokemon that naturaly take hits from Crawdaunt's STAB options, such as Urshifu-Rapid Strike, Zarude, and Ogerpon-Wellspring can take a hit due to its coverage moves being relatively weak and fire back with a move to KO Crawdaunt.

**Colbur Berry**: Colbur Berry can be used as a lure to bait in and punish Crawdaunt attempting to Knock Off, and is used by pokemon such as Galairian Slowking, Sinischa, and Gholdengo.

**Chip Damage**: Rocky Helmet, Life Orb recoil, and entry hazards can all limit Crawdaunt's opportunities to unleash strong hits.

This is implemented! GP Team Do your magic!

When writing your next analysis, please take a quick moment to fix the most common errors (e.g. lowercase "pokemon," "Ogerpon-Wellspring" instead of the correct "Ogerpon-W") found under number 1 in this thread. It would be super helpful going forward.

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. Good job!
