Welcome, to Community Create-A-Team where us Smogonites work together in taking a general idea, whether it be a Pokemon, theme, or what have you, and work with it to create a competitive team. I'm sure most of us have heard every Pokemon has a niche and you should build your team around it in order to fulfill that niche. The overall goal of this is to expand our creative thinking process when it comes to Competitve Pokemon. "Our thinking process is just fine!", I's wish to remind you of the scenario before and after Dugtrio was added to UU. "Broken!" to hardly used... I see that as a justifing reason to say that currently a lot of members have closed minds.

Origin of thread derived from here.

From upper management:
DON'T POST SUGGESTIONS IF YOU HAVEN'T TESTED THE POKEMON OR SET.

DON"T SKIP AROUND TEAM STYLE AND START SUGGESTING POSSIBLE TEAMMATES UNLESS THEY WOULD GREATLY INFLUENCE THE TEAM.

Please stay on topic. If we are discussing the the "Team Style" please refrain from changing the topic.

We are creating a competitive team. So think to win!

Finally, make sure you play test the team once we get that far! Try to eliminate all "theorymon".
While I have not completely figured out the entire process he is a rough outline of the discussion...

C/P'd from the first CCAT. xD Anyways, the subject of this CCAT is...

AGGRON

This beast gained a lot of recognition from Platinum to HGSS, and that is all due to one move: Head Smash. Now it is time to show Aggron's true power and put him in a great OU team!

(-Aggron Discussion Thread: Any info regarding Aggron that doesn't involve the team should be posted in there to reduce clutter and spam, thanks!)

Obviously I think if we're going to star a team around aggron and show what he can do we need to go with the most powerful and talked about set- Rock Polish. As a CBer it would be hit and run and rarely sweep showing what he can do. I'm not saying the CB set isn't good. I have no clue really. But I do imagine if we want to show what he can do we need to use the more sweeper style set.

Frig, I am so far behind on the metagame I won't be able to contribute here. Darn school, finding work and writing academic papers taking up all my time.

Good luck though! I hope it goes as well (or better) than the Heracross one. I'll be lurking.

I voted the Rock Polish set. I like the other sets, but they're really not meant for sweeping. Choice band is really for getting hard hits in. But of course, being locked into one move is never good for sweeping. My favorite one is actually the magnet rise set, but again, not good for sweeping. I love that it can avoid ground moves, but being so slow it will probably just turn out to be another paralysis team. Rock Polish on the other hand can outspeed a lot of pokemon and still hit hard.

P.S. Which Rock Polish set? I'm assuming standard Life Orb, but I need clarification.

P.P.S. I intend to be a lot more involved with this ccat. It seems like a fun process!

Given that ineffective headsmash is stronger than neutral earthquake, I figure that 90% of the time you will just use that. Because of that, I wouldnt bother with setting up, I'd just CB it..

It still does 43% minimum to Lucario, and it can 3hko pert.. Sure you'll be slow, but its better to headsmash and switch than to rock polish and switch..

Have a nice day.

I voted the CB set. i think that aggron should switch in, and just wreck things with as much power as possible, and then switch out when there is a threat. with 225 power and 525 attack, this could do major damage to things that even resist rock head. in today's quick paced metagames, there are many commonly scarfed pokemon that can still outspeed aggron after a rock polish. this is merely my opinion.

I personally like the idea of Substitute + Magnet Rise, as it allows Aggron to remain dangerously offensive, while also taking advantage of its gargantuan Defense stat, and decent Special Defense (in Sandstorm, obviously). I can already imagine a lot of revenge-killers being present for Rock Polish Aggron, and while it still remains a very effective set, I think the Substitute + Magnet Rise would be easier to ensure kills on things such as Infernape and Lucario (assuming they run Vacuum Wave or even Mach Punch in Ape's case). Just my thoughts, though.

If Rock Polish does win, then yes, we will have some strong participants in this thread vote on which to use: whether it be LO or SubLiechi.

voted RP

life orb IMO since the attacking difference between liechi and life orb is so small, and the substituting is wearing you down so much anyways its even worse than a life orb and you are barely even attacking for a lot of it...

btw jolly nature so heatran doesnt ruin the fun

EDIT:
@locopoke who posted after me: i think outrunning anything non scarfed is pretty good...

and before i forget, a good teammate is lucario since lucario will draw out the bulky grounds and waters and smack then with +2 CCs

Choice Band is really the only viable option in my opinion. you still don't outrun much stuff with rock polish, definetely not any scarfed mons. and if you use jolly you sacrifice much-needed attack. Choice band allows you to give him some bulk to take hits that aren't ground or fighting. with entry hazards down you can throw out head smash after head smash dealing a good amount of damage to whatever switches in, slowly wearing down your opponent's team

Ive personally used aggron in ou before and it fuckin rapes. I swear. Head smash ohkos Non 252def Bold. I used

Aggron @ Life orb
252atk/252spe/4hp
-Rock Polish
-Head Smash
-Iron Head
-Earthquake

If you want to make a team based around it, it's going to have to be rock polish probably. CB does sound like a good set, but its hard to make a team based around it (What're you gonna do, rely on paralysis of all his members? doesn't work as well as it sounds). I'd like to see cb used, but going to have to stick with RP.

I'd love to see what this would do with some rocks+1 or 2 layers of spikes up. I think people would cry :p

this is gonna be pretty hard considering how bad aggron is but i suggest choice band so you're not completely completely outshined by rhyperior and metagross

@Justinawe

Cool to see the next CCaT and glad to not be running it >.>. Here are some tips that you may want to include in OP...

DON'T POST SUGGESTIONS IF YOU HAVEN'T TESTED THE POKEMON OR SET.

DON"T SKIP AROUND TEAM STYLE AND START SUGGESTING POSSIBLE TEAMMATES UNLESS THEY WOULD GREATLY INFLUENCE THE TEAM.

Those are two things that slid by me in the first CCaT and it was rather frustrating.

Thanks for the tips Ex, added them into the OP!

Voted for Rock Pollish since it's what has the best chance of sweeping and that would pretty much be a good idea for surrounding the team around one Pokemon.

Hope I can help for this project :)

Choice Band seems to be the best option in my opinion. While Aggron can certainly get a fairly good chance at a sweep via Rock Polish, he's not using his greatest aspect: Hitting very, very hard. There are much better candidates for sweepers, such as Lucario, Salamence, and Scizor. Lucario and Scizor even have a priority move to somewhat negate Choice Scarf users. Overall I feel that doing frankly absurd amounts of damage to pretty much anything that switches in (resist or not) to set up for a better sweeper makes for a better team.

A team can easily be made around maximizing CB Aggron's effectiveness in battle, even though it may seem that setting up for a Rock Polish sweep is the clear way to build a core out of him. One can either make sure that any switches that Aggron will cause (which he should be doing) will have an even greater effect with entry hazards, or other wall breakers that take out the common checks against him.

Obviously I am listing the basics here, but I feel it to be important for people to realize what Aggron's strengths are and that it is indeed possible to build a successful team around a Choice item Pokemon. I can post example teams if requested.

I propose a Magnet Rise/Toxic set, as it makes a great wall breaker, plus it's something that it does well compared to others.

I'm pretty interested in taking part in this CCAT, I'm voting Choice Band. Seems like the best choice imo, I don't think Aggron will want to stay in very long.

Choice Band. I haven't actually seen a situation in which Aggron has time to set up. With CB Aggron you could at least force some switches, abuse SR/Spikes and hit shit really hard. That would at least help along it's niche of hitting whatever the fuck really hard.

I don't see Aggron sweeping an entire team, I see Aggron Head Smashing the door open for something else to sweep.

I voted for the Rock Polish set.

However, I'm thinking what if we try making two sets of team for both Rock Polish and the Choice Band variance? The team basing off of Aggron really depends on what set he's gonna be.

Rock Polish based team would be more offensive oriented where it's all about sacrificing and continue wearing down the opposition, and maybe Dual Screen supports.

Choice Band based team would require more defensive team to take hits aiming at Aggron after he used Rock Smash, or he were to miss with that 80% accuracy. Now that's shaky. Placing it on offensive team would really hinder other sweeper, especially if Head Smash misses and Aggron then either have to switch out to escape his death by letting the other sweeper take the hit and slowing the tempo or risk it and try to get in a second Head Smash, which is simply sacrificing.

I like playing more with balance and/or offensive style of a team, so I'm more lenient towards RP set. I still think it'd be nice to try doing two team for two sets; the Rock Polish and the Choice Band, and possibly making comparision. Especially if it will promote more view and contributions from the community.

Rock Polish is easily the most devasting sweeping set. I'm interested in taking part in this CCAT, I've used him in UU to some extent and it'll be fun building a team around him in OU.

In my opinion, Aggron is outclassed as anything but a CBer (although a Rock Polish Liechi set isn't bad) by other sweepers such as Scizor, Mence and Luke. I've used CB Aggron to great success in OU (tears apart stall almost on its own, just Aqua Tail the Hippowdon switch in and then Head Smash tears the rest of the team apart) so I hope that its picked as the variant we decide to use.
