* Volcanion uses its unique typing and high Special Attack to carve its role as a strong, bulky attacker.
* Steam Eruption is a strong STAB move to OHKO Pokemon such as Volcarona, Skeledirge, and non-Speed invested Ursaluna.
* Overheat hits Corviknight, Metagross, Meowscarada, and non-specially defensive Iron Crown.
* Sludge Wave is solid coverage to use versus Primarina, Ogerpon-W, Sylveon, and non-Encore + Disable Iron Valiant.
* Hyper Beam hits Haxorus for an OHKO.
* The defensive EVs allow Volcanion to survive an Earthquake from Choice Band Haxorus while also taking Sylveon's Hyper Beam after Fake Tears.
* Volcanion struggles to defeat Dragon-types such as Regidrago and Hisuian Goodra. It can therefore be paired with Pokemon such as Iron Valiant, Iron Crown, and Sylveon to cover these weaknesses.

* Steam Eruption is strong STAB against Pokemon such as Volcarona, Skeledirge, and non-Speed invested Ursaluna.
* Overheat hits Corviknight, Metagross, Meowscarada and non-Special Defense invested non-specially defensive Iron Crown.
* Sludge Wave is solid coverage to use vs. versus Primarina, Ogerpon-W, Sylveon, and non-Speed BoosterEncore + Disable Iron Valiant. (not all speed booster ivals are encore + disable so imo specify that they're encore + disable)
* Hyper Beam surprises unexpecting Haxorus with an OHKO.
* The defensive EVs will survive an Outrage Earthquake (252+ Atk Choice Band Haxorus Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 108 Def Volcanion: 306-362 (84.2 - 99.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO) from Choice Band Haxorus, while also living Sylveon's Hyper Beam after a Fake Tears.
* Volcanion struggles to defeat Dragon-types Pokemon such as Regidrago and Hisuian Goodra. It can therefore be paired with Pokemon such as Iron Valiant, Donphan, and Sylveon to cover these weaknesses.
