Choice Scarf bypasses Tapu Lele's middling Speed tier while still remaining very threatening due to its excellent STAB moves backed up by Focus Blast and Psychic Surge. Future Sight supports most physical attackers but is particularly good alongside Dark- and Fighting-types like Weavile and Urshifu-R, with the combination of special psychic offense and physical offense overwhelming most walls in the tier. Psyshock is chosen to deal higher damage to specially bulky Pokemon like Blissey, Volcarona, and Assault Vest Tornadus. Focus Blast allows Tapu Lele to deal significant damage to Steel-types like Melmetal, Ferrothorn, and Heatran that would otherwise completely wall it. Checks and Counters

**Steel-types**: Steel-types resist Tapu Lele's Psychic-type moves and Moonblast while only being threatened by Focus Blast, although Focus Blast requires correct prediction for choiced sets alongside its accuracy check. Melmetal is the best common Steel-type at checking Tapu Lele due to its excellent special bulk, being able to easily take even Focus Blast, combined with its huge threat level from Double Iron Bash. Other Steel-types like Heatran, Ferrothorn, Jirachi, and Aegislash can serve as solid checks or counters to Tapu Lele. Heatran and Ferrothorn can set entry hazards or attack Tapu Lele and its team with Magma Storm and Knock Off, Gyro Ball, or Power Whip respectively. Jirachi and Aegislash lack a weakness to Focus Blast, however Jirachi is largely limited to stall, Aegislash struggles with longevity, and both fear the uncommon but relevant Shadow Ball.
