SS OU Choice Band Scizor

Before I start I just wanted to say that english is not my first language so I'm sorry if I make any mistakes.

I started making this team because I wanted to use Choice Banded Scizor and while looking through the SS OU Viability Rankings it seemed to me that Choice Banded Scizor + a Water-type STAB dealt with a lot of popular Pokémon, so I've started with the next set:

Scizor.png

Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Knock Off
- Superpower

It is a standar Choice Banded Scizor set and I feel like I can't say anything that hasn't been said about this set. Since Scizor has access to U-turn I wanted to make a "VoltTurn" core for this team. In the teams previos iterations I used to run Rotom-Wash as a Water-type STAB Pokémon, a partner to Scizor for a "VoltTurn" core and an answer to the best Scizors counter and a S Rank Pokémon, Landorus-T. The Rotom-Wash was Choice Specs and it did enough damage to said Landorus-T and it deals with other Scizor switch-ins, like Toxapex, Skarmory and Corviknight. Although, with all these positives, Rotom-Wash still felt underwhelming and relying on a 80% accurate Hydro Pump didn't feel the best, because it always seemed to miss, especially when I need it to hit the most. In the end I decided to replace Rotom-Wash with the next Pokémon.

Urshifu-Rapid-Strike.png

Urshifu-Rapid-Strike @ Choice Band
Ability: Unseen Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Surging Strikes
- Aqua Jet
- U-turn

I feel like Urshifu-Rapid-Strike is an excellent partner to Scizor. It has access to U-turn, which enables it to form a really nice U-turn core. It deals with both, Landorus-T and Heatran, excellenty, though you have to be careful of a Lava Plume burn, and neither Skarmory nor Corviknight want to switch into Close Combat. Urshifu-Rapid-Strike, also appreciates Scizors ability to deal with Clefable.

Since this teams main way of revenge killing is priority opposing Psychic Terrain can be a nuisance so I chose the next Pokémon to help me deal with that.

Tapu Koko.png

Tapu Koko @ Choice Specs
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Dazzling Gleam
- U-turn
- Grass Knot

Tapu Koko fits really well into this team, not only to deal with aformentioned Psychic Terrain, but it also deals with Toxapex, with which neither of the previos two Pokémon can deal with. Tapu Koko can also deal with Tornadus-T, Zapdos and Rotom-Wash while also deterring Dragons from spamming Dragon-type attacks. Tapu Koko also gets access to U-turn making the U-turn core even better. Additionally, in previous iterations of the team, I got swept by Substitute Hawlucha so I was hoping that Tapu Koko is going to help me deal with that set, though, I haven't run into Substitute Hawlucha except that one time so it's not tested yet.

For my next Pokémon I wanted a defensive pivot, a Pokémon with access to both U-turn and Defog, I also wanted Electric-type immunity and what Pokémon covers all of these points: Landorus-T.

Landorus-T.png

Landorus-Therian (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 168 Def / 92 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Knock Off
- Defog

It is pretty much a standard Landorus-T set, with the exception of Defog. With all the switching that you do on this team hazards can pose a big problem and wear this team down rather quickly, so Defog support is essential. Landorus-T also provides me with a Ground-type immunity, which lets me switch into and check some dangerous Pokémon for this team, like Garchomp and Excadrill.

At this point I felt like the team is still pretty vulnerable to Dragapult spamming Shadow Ball and that's where the next Pokémon on the team comes in.

Heatran.png

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 136 SpD / 124 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Lava Plume
- Earth Power
- Taunt
- Stealth Rock

Heatran can switch into aformentioned Dragapult, takes 38% maximum and then you can use Earth Power, which puts Dragapult in range of Bullet Punch from Scizor, after Stealh Rocks, which is why Heatran is also carrying the move and I couldn't really fit the move on any other Pokémon. Other then that it is a pretty standard defensive Heatran set, though I am runnig 4 extra EVs in Speed so I can outrun other specially defensive Heatrans, if it ever comes down to that. Taunt helps me deal with some of the Heatrans switch-ins, like Blissey and I'm using Lava Plume for that 30% burn chance. Heatran also helps me deal with Volcarona, which otherwise may be dangerous.

For my last slot I wanted a Pokémon that is going to let me check Urshifu-Rapid-Strike, because I felt like my team was pretty weak to it. I also wanted I Pokémon that can help my matchup against rain teams and for that slot I chose Tangrowth.

Tangrowth.png

Tangrowth @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Knock Off
- Focus Blast
- Toxic

For my item on Tangrowth I chose Rocky Helmet because it would let me punish various Pokémon that use U-turn, and even though Tangrowth is weak to U-turn it takes very little damage and because of the ability Regenerator you pretty much take no damage from various U-turns in the tier, just don't switch it into Scizor. Tangrowth also lets me counter Rillaboom, which otherwise may be annoying for this team. Focus Blast is really nice on Tangrowth because it lets me beat Kartana one-on-one and, for some reason, Ferrothorns like to switch into my Tangrowth so Focus Blast lets me damage them pretty hard. For my last slot I chose Toxic over recommended Sleep Powder because Sleep Powder has negative synergy with Electric Terrain and Toxic lets me beat Rillaboom one-on-one even better and I can cripple Volcaronas which tend to switch into Tangrowth. On this last slot I used to test with Amoonguss, but the only payoff is that you take 15% less from Urshifus Close Combat, but otherwise Amoonguss performs a lot worse, at least on this team.

When it comes to weaknesses, one Pokémon that constantly performs well against this team, at least while I'm playing, is Sand Rush Dracozolt and sometimes dealing with the set-up sweepers can be annoying because your only way of dealing with them is priority.

Thank you for reading.
