Draft Chesnaught

Status
Not open for further replies.
[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 6 onwards

**Price Range**: 5-7 points

**Overview**: Chesnaught finds itself a niche as a bulky Spikes setter for a relatively low price point. It is largely held back by its Grass / Fighting typing and lack of pivoting, which leaves it vulnerable to several common offensive typings, including a 4x weakness to Flying. However, Chesnaught's reliable recovery, useful utility movepool, key resistances to both Ground and Rock, and immunities to common moves provided by its Bulletproof ability help justify its place in some drafts.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Defensive Utility**: With access to entry hazards in Spikes, disruption in Taunt and Roar, recovery in Synthesis and Pain Split, and item removal in Knock Off, Chesnaught can perform a support role for its team. Its typing allows it to act as a defensive switch-in to several common typings. However, it has to watch out for common coverage moves when attempting to switch in, even from physical threats that it should normally wall.

**Bulky Wallbreaker**: Chesnaught's typing matches well offensively against several Pokemon in the meta, allowing it to function as bulky wallbreaker. This ability is bolstered by access to a multitude of setup moves in Iron Defense, Curse, and Swords Dance, giving it different options to set up every game. It can combine this with healing moves like Synthesis and Leech Seed to become very difficult to remove. However, it is still largely held back by its typing and relatively low Special Defense.

**Suicide Lead**: Chesnaught can act as a decent sacrificial lead, as it has tools every lead Pokemon appreciates in Endure, Taunt, Endeavor, and Spikes. However, its middling Speed and lack of priority make it far from ideal for this role, and it is usually better off being used for other roles.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves** Body Press, Close Combat, Drain Punch, Hammer Arm, Low Kick, Seed Bomb, Wood Hammer

**Setup Moves**: Bulk Up, Curse, Iron Defense, Swords Dance, Trailblaze

**Utility Moves**: Brick Break, Endeavor, Knock Off, Pain Split, Rest, Roar, Spikes, Spiky Shield, Super Fang, Synthesis, Taunt

**Coverage**: Crunch, Dragon Claw, Earthquake, High Horsepower, Gyro Ball, Iron Head, Poison Jab, Rock Slide, Shadow Claw, Stone Edge, Thunder Punch, Zen Headbutt

Niche Moves
========
**Facade**: Chesnaught can fit Facade on some builds if it is expecting to get burned. This may throw off an opposing Pokemon trying to inflict status on it to neutralize it.

**Endure**: Endure allows Chesnaught to survive a hit and get off a final hurrah before fainting if used in conjunction with a Custap Berry. This allows it to overcome its middling Speed stat to get off an additional layer of Spikes, use Endeavor to neutralize an opposing threat, or even use Synthesis to reliably heal up. This combination particularly complements the suicide lead set.

**Rock Tomb**: Rock Tomb allows Chesnaught to achieve satisfactory speed control. Using Rock Tomb to make opposing switch-ins slower can allow it to stay in against Pokemon that would normally threaten it out.

Common Items
========
**Rocky Helmet**: Chesnaught's high Defense pairs really well with Rocky Helmet. This allows it to rack up constant passive damage while being able to stay relatively healthy through the use of Synthesis.

**Leftovers**: Chesnaught is expected to stay on the field for multiple turns during a battle, making it appreciate constant passive recovery through Leftovers. The use of Leftovers boosts its longevity, making it possible for it to get multiple layers of Spikes and perform its defensive role better.

**Sitrus Berry** Sitrus Berry should be used over Leftovers when Chesnaught is expected to endure a devastating hit more than once in a battle. Getting out of KO range from a powerful move allows it to threaten an opposing Pokemon out or bolster its Defense using Iron Defense, Bulk Up, or Curse to tank more hits.

**Resistance Berries**: Chesnaught's bulk makes it a great candidate for using common resistance Berries. This allows it to overcome its typing-based defensive drawbacks and protects it against common coverage moves. This also eliminates the need to scout for random coverage moves.

Niche Items
========
**Damage-boosting Items**: Items like Choice Band, Expert Belt, and type-specific damage-boosting items can help Chesnaught reach required damage thresholds, boosting its offensive ability. It is important to note that Body Press is also boosted by Choice Band, meaning Chesnaught can make use of Choice Band without sacrificing bulk.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Though Chesnaught takes resisted damage from Stealth Rock, it appreciates a Heavy-Duty Boots allowing it to switch into the field multiple times. It can also be used if the user is expecting the opponent to stack Spikes or Toxic Spikes.

**Custap Berry**:Custap Berry can be used in conjunction with Endure to overcome its low Speed and fire off one last attack.

**Weakness Policy**: Chesnaught can use its weaknesses to its advantage by carrying Weakness Policy to win duels it usually would not. This can also work on surprise lead sets, catching foes off-guard. However, this is still difficult to pull of viably thanks to Chesnaught's middling Special Defense and low Speed, which causes it to be easily revenge killed, making it usually only good for one KO.

**Eject Button**: Chesnaught's high bulk means it can usually absorb a strong move for its team and keep up momentum by getting to switch out for free.

**Mental Herb**: Chesnaught's utility sets are very prone to disruption from opposing Taunt and Encore, making Mental Herb particularly useful for brushing it off once.

Tera
========
Though there are usually better Tera Captains available at Chesnaught's price point, it is a decent secondary Tera user, as most of its defensive drawbacks come from its typing. It greatly appreciates Terastallizing into common defensive typings like Tera Fairy, Water, Dragon, and Steel. Tera can also be used to boost the power of Chesnaught's coverage moves. Tera Ghost can be used to block opposing Rapid Spin after setting up Spikes. Iron Defense sets become significantly more potent through the use of Tera, as they can become very difficult to take down after a smart defensive Terastallization.

Draft Strategy
========
Chesnaught should never be a Pokemon that draft is built around. It should at best be drafted as a support Pokemon to round out drafts with its specific resistances and utility options. Useful teammates to include alongside Chesnaught include:

**Setup Sweepers**: Setup sweepers appreciate Chesnaught's ability to wear down opposing defensive Pokemon through the use of Spikes, allowing them to fulfil their role better. Pokemon like Iron Boulder, Salamence, and Necrozma greatly benefit from its support.

**Fast Pivots**: Fast pivots can escape out of opposing super effective moves to bring Chesnaught in safely to resist them. Pivots that are weak to moves that it resists like like Iron Treads, Rotom-W, and Sneasler are good examples of this.

**Water-types**: Water-types cover most of Chesnaught's weaknesses by taking them at least neutrally. Bulky Water-types like Slowking and Rotom-W greatly complement it defensively. Offensive Water types like Greninja, Manaphy, and Palafin all appreciate Chesnaught's ability to clear opposing bulky Water-types and to tank incoming super effective moves.

Checks and Counters
========
**Special Wallbreakers**: Chesnaught's low Special Defense makes it very vulnerable to neutral and super effective special moves. Special wallbreakers like Enamorus, Raging Bolt, and Latios can all take advantage of its Special Defense and dish out massive damage. Usually, physical attackers like Hisuian Samurott and Palafin can also make use of their Special Attack—and in some cases, special Flying-type coverage—to exploit Chesnaught, making it unable to check them reliably.

**Opposing disruption**: Most of Chesnaught's utility comes from Spikes and Synthesis. Taunt and Encore users like Zarude, Landorus-T, and Tornadus-T can shut it down, rendering it a very passive Pokemon.

**Flying-types**: Chesnaught can do very little against opposing Flying-types, as they resist both of its STAB types and hit it super effectively. Common Flying-type Pokemon like Tornadus-T, Zapdos, and Moltres and can usually check it without any issues.

**Entry Hazards**: Chesnaught usually be absorbs Knock Off for its team, which means that opposing entry hazards can eventually wear it down after it loses its Heavy-Duty Boots. Entry hazards can also be used to punish non-Heavy-Duty Boots sets.

**Bulky Wallbreaker Sweeper**: Chesnaught's typing matches well offensively into several Pokemon in the meta, this allows it to function as a bulky wallbreaker. This ability is bolstered by access to a multitude of setup moves in Iron Defense, Curse, Swords Dance, and Belly Drum, giving it different options to setup every game. However, this is not Chesnaught's primary role as it is still largely held back by its typing and relatively low special bulk.

**Sacrificial Lead** Chesnaught can act as a decent sacrificial lead as it has tools every lead Pokemon appreciates in Endure, Taunt, Endeavour Endeavor American spelling and Spikes. Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves** Body Press, Brick Break, Close Combat, Drain Punch, Hammer Arm, Low Kick, Seed Bomb, Bullet Seed, Wood Hammer

**Setup Moves**: Bulk Up, Curse, Iron Defense, Swords Dance, Trailblaze., Belly Drum

**Utility Moves**: Brick Break, Endeavor, Knock Off, Pain Split, Rest, Roar, Spikes, Spiky Shield, Super Fang, Synthesis, Taunt

**Coverage**: Crunch, Earthquake, High Horsepower, Gyro Ball, Iron Head, Pin Missile, Poison Jab, Rock Slide, Shadow Claw, Stone Edge, Thunder Punch, Zen Headbutt, Aerial Ace, Dragon Claw Aerial Ace not necessary, and since you're doing alphabetical order it definitely shouldn't be first lol.

Niche Moves
========
**Facade**: Chesnaught can fit in Facade on some builds if it is expecting to get burned. This may throw off an opposing Pokemon trying to inflict status on Chesnaught to neutralize it.

**Endure**: Endure allows Chesnaught to survive a hit and get off a final hurrah before dying if used in conjunction with a Custap Berry. This allows Chesnaught to overcome its middling Speed stat. This can allow Chesnaught to get off an additional layer of Spikes, use Endeavor to neutralize an opposing threat, or even use Synthesis to reliably heal up. This combination particularly compliments the Sacrificial Lead set. If you're a gamer you can also use Endure in conjunction with a Salac berry and sweep an opponent with Reversal if they forget to bring all priority and any speed control.

Sub + BDrum deserves a nod, would put Substitute here.
Common Items
========
**Rocky Helmet**: Chesnaught's high Defense stat makes it a switch in for largely physical moves, this pairs pairing really well with Rocky Helmet which can act as a punish for physical Ccontact moves. This allows Chesnaught to rack up constant passive damage while being able to stay relatively healthy through the use of Synthesis.

**Leftovers**: Chesnaught is expected to stay on the field for multiple turns during a battle, making it appreciate constant passive recovery through Leftovers. The use of Leftovers boosts Chesnaught's longetivity, making it possible for it to get multiple layers of Spikes, and perform its defensive role better.

**Sitrus Berry** Chesnaught also appreciates burst healing from Sitrus Berry. Sitrus Berry should be used over Leftovers when Chesnaught is expected to endure a devastating hit more than once in a battle. Getting out of kill range from a powerful move allows Chesnaught to threaten an opposing Pokemon out, or to bolster its defenses using Iron Defense, Bulk up, or Curse to tank hits for longer.

**Resist Berries**: Chesnaught's bulk makes it a great candidate for using common Resist Berries. This allows it to overcome its typing based defensive drawbacks and protects it against common coverage moves.

Niche Items
========
**Damage-Boosting items**: Chesnaught can make use of damage-boosting items to boost its offensive abilities. Items like Expert Belt and type specific damage-boosting items can help Chesnaught reach required damage thresholds.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Though Chesnaught takes resisted damage from Stealth Rock, it appreciates Heavy Duty Boots as it allows it to switch into the field multiple times. Heavy Duty Boots can also be used if the user is expecting the opponent to stack Spikes or Toxic Spikes.

**Choice Band**: Chesnaught's bulk and high Attack stat makes it a decent Choice Band user. Choice Band boosts Chesnaught's wallbreaking abilities. It is important to note that Body Press is also boosted by Choice Band, meaning Chesnaught can make use of Choice Band without sacrificing on bulk.

**Choice Scarf**: Chesnaught can use a Choice Scarf to outspeed mid-high speed Pokemon. However this is far from ideal as Chesnaught's low natural speed makes it unable to outspeed faster Pokemon even with a speed boost.

**Custap Berry**: This can be used in conjunction with Endure to make use of the aforementioned Endure + Custap Berry set.

Salac should be mentioned if you're adding the Sub + BDrum set.

Tera
========
Chesnaught is an excellent secondary Tera user Captain as most of its defensive drawbacks come from its defensive typing. Chesnaught appreciates Terastalizing into common good defensive typings like Tera Fairy, Tera Water, Tera Dragon or Tera Steel. Tera can also be used to boost the power of Chesnaught's coverage moves. Chesnaught's Iron defense sets become significantly more potent through the use of Tera as they can become very difficult to take down after a smart defensive Terastalization. Wouldn't say "excellent secondary Tera Captain", it's definitely usable but not enough justification in following paragraph to warrant "excellent"

Draft Strategy
========
Chesnaught should never be a Pokemon that you build your draft around. Chesnaught should best be drafted as a support Pokemon to round out drafts. teensy more info here

**Setup Sweepers**: Setup sweepers appreciate Chesnaught's ability to wear down opposing defensive Pokemon through the use of Spikes, allowing them to fulfil their role better. Pokemon like Iron Boulder, Greninja, and Necrozma greatly benefit from Chesnaught's support.

**Fast Pivots**: Fast pivots can escape out of opposing super effective moves to bring Chesnaught in safely to resist them. Pivots that are weak to moves that Chesnaught resists like Iike Iron Treads, Rotom-Wash and Sneasler are good examples of this.

**Water types** Water types cover most of Chesnaught's weakness by taking them atleast neutrally. Water types like Greninja, Manaphy and Palafin-Hero all appreciate Chesnaught's ability to clear opposing Bulky Water types and to tank

Checks and Counters

**Special Wallbreakers**: Chesnaught's low Special Bulk makes it very vulnerable to neutral and super-effective special moves. Special Wallbreakers like Enamorus-Incarnate, Raging Bolt and Latios can all take advantage of Chesnaught's special bulk and dish out massive damage. Usually Physical attackers like Samurott-Hisui and Palafin-Hero can also make use of their Special Attack to exploit Chesnaught, making it unable to check them reliably.

**Fast Taunt users**: Most of Chesnaught's utility comes from Spikes and Synthesis. Fast Taunt users can shut down Chesnaught, rendering it a very passive Pokemon.

**Flying Types** Chesnaught can do very little against opposing flying types as they resist both of its stabs and can hit it super effectively. Common Flying type Pokemon like Tornadus-Therain, Zapdos and Moltres and can usually check Chesnaught without any issues.

AMQC, don't need to add everything or anything if you don't want

qc1/2 good work xx

notes for amqc:
- good work! caught a lot of nice things, ive merged what i liked from yours with my qc and given you credit x
- personal preference but i do personally disagree with belly drum for the reasons mentioned in my purple text down below
- i like the comment to expand on the draft strategy section though i don't think it's crucial to do so as there isn't really a whole lot to say about drafting chesnaught

I note Belly Drum is mentioned in the amqc but I think it's probably too slow to make use of it. if you really want to mention it i would only mention it under the situation where it is a tera captain because its common weaknesses and speed hold it back way too much to make use of it.

Common Items
========
**Rocky Helmet**: Chesnaught's high Defense stat makes it a switch in for largely physical moves, this pairs really well with Rocky Helmet which can act as a punish for physical Contact moves. This allows Chesnaught to rack up constant passive damage while being able to stay relatively healthy through the use of Synthesis.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Though Chesnaught takes resisted damage from Stealth Rock, it appreciates Heavy Duty Boots as it allows it to switch into the field multiple times. Heavy Duty Boots can also be used if the user is expecting the opponent to stack spikes Spikes or Toxic Spikes.

**Choice Band**: Chesnaught's bulk and high Attack stat makes it a decent Choice Band user. Choice Band boosts Chesnaught's wallbreaking abilities. It is important to note that Body Press is also boosted by Choice Band, meaning Chesnaught can make use of Choice Band without sacrificing on bulk. combine with damage boosting items but keep the comment on body press

**Choice Scarf**: Chesnaught can use a Choice Scarf to outspeed mid-high speed Pokemon. However this is far from ideal as Chesnaught's low natural speed makes it unable to outspeed faster Pokemon even with a speed boost. too niche imo

**Custap Berry**: This can be used in conjunction with Endure to make use of the aforementioned Endure + Custap Berry set.

**Weakness Policy**: big dogs' weak to everything and can work on lead sets as a surprising lead breaker

Tera
========
Chesnaught is an excellent secondary Tera Captain user as most of its defensive drawbacks come from its defensive typing. would say its only a solid option, there's better secondary cap choices in that price point Chesnaught appreciates Terastalizing into common good defensive typings like Tera Fairy, Tera Water, Tera Dragon or Tera Steel. Tera can also be used to boost the power of Chesnaught's coverage moves. Chesnaught's Iron defense Defense sets become significantly more potent through the use of Tera as they can become very difficult to take down after a smart defensive Terastalization. include a comment mentioning that there are better secondary captains

Draft Strategy
========
Chesnaught should never be a Pokemon that you build your draft around. Chesnaught should at best be drafted as a support Pokemon to round out drafts. Useful teammates to include alongside Chesnaught include:

**Setup Sweepers**: Setup sweepers appreciate Chesnaught's ability to wear down opposing defensive Pokemon through the use of Spikes, allowing them to fulfil their role better. Pokemon like Iron Boulder, Greninja, and Necrozma greatly benefit from Chesnaught's support. im iffy on calling greninja a setup sweeper though i do get what you mean, maybe just mention a more traditional setup sweeper instead

**Fast Pivots**: Fast pivots can escape out of opposing super effective moves to bring Chesnaught in safely to resist them. Pivots that are weak to moves that Chesnaught resists like Iike Iron Treads, Rotom-Wash and Sneasler are good examples of this.

**Water-types Pokemon** Water types cover most of Chesnaught's weakness by taking them atleast neutrally. mention some bulky water guys here that want to switch into moves targeted at chessy Water types Meanwhile, offensive Water-types like Greninja, Manaphy and Palafin-Hero all appreciate Chesnaught's ability to clear opposing Bulky bulky Water types and to tank.

Checks and Counters
========

**Fast Taunt users Opposing disruption**: Most of Chesnaught's utility comes from Spikes and Synthesis. Fast Taunt users can shut down Chesnaught, rendering it a very passive Pokemon. Can probably just make this entire bit about taunt/encore/choice item trick etc as i dont think the speed of the foe matters when chesnaught is this slow, it doesnt want to get disrupted at all.

**Flying Types** Chesnaught can do very little against opposing flying types as they resist both of its stabs and can hit it super effectively. Common Flying type Pokemon like Tornadus-Therain, Zapdos and Moltres and can usually check Chesnaught without any issues.

**Entry Hazards**: explain why it doesnt want to run heavy-duty boots here since you've put it in niche items. mention that it is a good knock off absorber so even if wearing boots its likely going to lose them.

However its middling speed stat and lack of priority makes it far from ideal for this role and a user is better off using Chesnaught for other roles. I am pretty sure Suicide Lead is actually the right term here.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves** Body Press, Close Combat, Drain Punch, Hammer Arm, Low Kick, Seed Bomb, Wood Hammer

**Setup Moves**: Bulk Up, Curse, Iron Defense, Swords Dance, Trailblaze.

**Utility Moves**: Brick Break, Endeavor, Knock Off, Pain Split, Rest, Roar, Spikes, Spiky Shield, Super Fang, Synthesis, Taunt

**Coverage**: Crunch, Dragon Claw, Earthquake, High Horsepower, Gyro Ball, Iron Head, Pin Missile Niche, Poison Jab, Rock Slide, Shadow Claw, Stone Edge, Thunder Punch, Zen Headbutt,

Niche Moves
========

Mention Rock Tomb for speed control.

Common Items
========
Mention that Ches is a great Knock Absorber and this is the ideal item to do so.

**Leftovers**: Chesnaught is expected to stay on the field for multiple turns during a battle, making it appreciate constant passive recovery through Leftovers. The use of Leftovers boosts Chesnaught's longevity, making it possible for it to get multiple layers of Spikes, and perform its defensive role better.

I think you could work in Pokemon will often bring like a random SE special coverage so this eliminates the need to scout.

Niche Items
========
**Damage Boosting items**: Chesnaught can make use of damage boosting items to boost its offensive abilities. Items like Choice Band, Expert Belt and type specific damage boosting items can help Chesnaught reach required damage thresholds. It is important to note that Body Press is also boosted by Choice Band, meaning Chesnaught can make use of Choice Band without sacrificing on bulk. Move below Custap

**Heavy Duty Boots**: Though Chesnaught takes resisted damage from Stealth Rock, it appreciates Heavy Duty Boots as it allows it to switch into the field multiple times. Heavy Duty Boots can also be used if the user is expecting the opponent to stack Spikes or Toxic Spikes.

**Custap Berry**: This can be used in conjunction with Endure to make use of the aforementioned Endure + Custap Berry set.

**Weakness Policy**: Chesnaught can use being weak to several typings to its advantage by carrying Weakness Policy. This can help it win duels it usually would not. This can also work on surprise lead sets, catching opponents off guard. However, this is still difficult to pull of viably thanks to Chesnaught's middling special bulk and low speed which causes it to be easily revenged.

I think Mental Herb and Ebutton both could fit feel free to consider.

Tera
========
Though there are usually better Tera captains available at this price point, Chesnaught is a decent secondary Tera user as most of its defensive drawbacks come from its defensive typing. Chesnaught greatly appreciates Terastalizing into common good defensive typings like Tera Fairy, Water, Dragon or Steel. Tera can also be used to boost the power of Chesnaught's coverage moves. Tera Ghost is also a good option as it can be used to block opposing Rapid Spin after setting up spikes. Chesnaught's Iron Defense sets become significantly more potent through the use of Tera as they can become very difficult to take down after a smart defensive Terastalization.

Draft Strategy
========
Chesnaught should never be a Pokemon that you build your draft around. Chesnaught should at best be drafted as a support Pokemon to round out drafts with its specific resistances and utility options. Useful teammates to include alongside Chesnaught include:

**Setup Sweepers**: Setup sweepers appreciate Chesnaught's ability to wear down opposing defensive Pokemon through the use of Spikes, allowing them to fulfil their role better. Pokemon like Iron Boulder, Salamence, and Necrozma greatly benefit from Chesnaught's support.

**Fast Pivots**: Fast pivots can escape out of opposing super effective moves to bring Chesnaught in safely to resist them. Pivots that are weak to moves that Chesnaught resists like Iike Iron Treads, Rotom-W and Sneasler are good examples of this.

**Water type Pokemon** Water types cover most of Chesnaught's weaknesses by taking them atleast neutrally. Bulky Water types like Slowking and Rotom-W greatly compliment Chesnaught defensively. Offensive Water types like Greninja, Manaphy and Palafin-Hero all appreciate Chesnaught's ability to clear opposing Bulky Water types and to tank incoming Super Effective Moves.

Checks and Counters
========
Usually Physical attackers like Samurott-Hisui and Palafin-Hero can also make use of their Special Attack and in some cases special Flying coverage to exploit Chesnaught, making it unable to check them reliably.

**Opposing disruption**: Most of Chesnaught's utility comes from Spikes and Synthesis. Taunt and Encore users like Heatran, Darkrai and Iron Valiant can shut down Chesnaught, rendering it a very passive Pokemon. Examples are kinda bad as all 3 would simply attack Chesnaught and are also threatened by it to some degree. Maybe change to like Zarude, Lando T, Torn T, etc.

**Flying Type Pokemon** Chesnaught can do very little against opposing flying types as they resist both of its stabs and can hit it super effectively. Common Flying type Pokemon like Tornadus-T, Zapdos and Moltres and can usually check Chesnaught without any issues.

**Entry Hazards** Chesnaught will usually be absorbing Knock Off for its team, which means that opposing entry hazards can eventually wear it down after it loses its Heavy Duty Boots. Entry Hazards can also be used to punish non Heavy Duty Boots sets.

[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 6 onwards

**Price Range**: 5-7 points

**Overview**: Chesnaught finds itself a niche as a bulky Spikes setter for a relatively low price point. It is largely held back by its Grass / Fighting typing and lack of pivoting, which leaves it vulnerable to several common offensive typings, including a quadruple 4x weakness to Flying. However, with Chesnaught's reliable recovery, a useful utility movepool, key resistances (RC) notably to both Ground and Rock, and immunities to common moves provided by its Bulletproof ability help justify Chesnaught's its place in some drafts.

Common Roles
========
**Defensive Utility**: With access to entry hazards in Spikes, disruption in Taunt and Roar, recovery in Synthesis and Pain Split, and item removal in Knock Off, Chesnaught can perform a support role for its team. Its typing allows it to act as a defensive switch in switch-in to several common typings. However, it has to watch out for common coverage moves when attempting to switch in, even from physical threats that it should normally wall.

**Bulky Wallbreaker**: Chesnaught's typing matches well offensively into against several Pokemon in the meta, this allows allowing it to function as bulky wallbreaker. This ability is bolstered by access to a multitude of setup moves in Iron Defense, Curse, (AC) and Swords Dance, giving it different options to setup set up every game. It can combine this with healing moves like Synthesis and Leech Seed to become very difficult to remove. However, (AC) it is still largely held back by its typing and relatively low Special bulk Defense.

**Suicide Lead**: Chesnaught can act as a decent sacrificial lead, (AC) as it has tools every lead Pokemon appreciates in Endure, Taunt, Endeavour Endeavor, (AC) and Spikes. However, (AC) its middling Speed stat and lack of priority makes make it far from ideal for this role, (AC) and a user it is usually better off using Chesnaught being used for other roles.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves** Body Press, Close Combat, Drain Punch, Hammer Arm, Low Kick, Seed Bomb, Wood Hammer

**Setup Moves**: Bulk Up, Curse, Iron Defense, Swords Dance, Trailblaze (RP)

**Utility Moves**: Brick Break, Endeavor, Knock Off, Pain Split, Rest, Roar, Spikes, Spiky Shield, Super Fang, Synthesis, Taunt

**Coverage**: Crunch, Dragon Claw, Earthquake, High Horsepower, Gyro Ball, Iron Head, Poison Jab, Rock Slide, Shadow Claw, Stone Edge, Thunder Punch, Zen Headbutt (RC)

Niche Moves
========
**Facade**: Chesnaught can fit in Facade on some builds if it is expecting to get burned. This may throw off an opposing Pokemon trying to inflict status on Chesnaught it to neutralize it.

**Endure**: Endure allows Chesnaught to survive a hit and get off a final hurrah before dying fainting if used in conjunction with a Custap Berry. This allows Chesnaught it to overcome its middling Speed stat (RP) This can allow Chesnaught to get off an additional layer of Spikes, use Endeavor to neutralize an opposing threat, or even use Synthesis to reliably heal up. This combination particularly compliments complements the suicide lead set.

**Rock Tomb**: Rock Tomb allows Chesnaught to achieve satisfactory speed control. Clicking Using Rock Tomb to make opposing switch-ins slower can allow Chesnaught it to stay in vs against Pokemon that would normally threaten it out.

Common Items
========
**Rocky Helmet**: Chesnaught's high Defense stat makes it a switch in for largely physical moves, this pairs really well with Rocky Helmet which can act as a punish for physical Contact moves. This allows Chesnaught it to rack up constant passive damage while being able to stay relatively healthy through the use of Synthesis. Chesnaught is also usually expected to absorb Knock Offs for its team, making Rocky Helmet the ideal item to knocked off (RP) removed a bunch of filler + i dont really see why knock off needs to be mentioned here

**Leftovers**: Chesnaught is expected to stay on the field for multiple turns during a battle, making it appreciate constant passive recovery through Leftovers. The use of Leftovers boosts Chesnaught's its longevity, making it possible for it to get multiple layers of Spikes (RC) and perform its defensive role better.

**Sitrus Berry** Chesnaught also appreciates burst healing from Sitrus Berry (RP) Sitrus Berry should be used over Leftovers when Chesnaught is expected to endure a devastating hit more than once in a battle. Getting out of kill KO range from a powerful move allows Chesnaught it to threaten an opposing Pokemon out (RC) or to bolster its defenses Defense using Iron Defense, Bulk Up, or Curse to tank more hits for longer.

**ResistResistance Berries**: Chesnaught's bulk makes it a great candidate for using common Resist resistance Berries. This allows it to overcome its typing based typing-based defensive drawbacks and protects it against common coverage moves. This also eliminates the need to scout for random coverage moves.

Niche Items
========
**DamageBoosting Damage-boosting Items**: Chesnaught can make use of damage boosting items to boost its offensive abilities (RP) Items like Choice Band, Expert Belt, (AC) and type specific damage boosting type-specific damage-boosting items can help Chesnaught reach required damage thresholds, (AC) boosting its offensive ability. It is important to note that Body Press is also boosted by Choice Band, meaning Chesnaught can make use of Choice Band without sacrificing on bulk.

**Heavy Duty Heavy-DutyBoots**: Though Chesnaught takes resisted damage from Stealth Rock, it appreciates Heavy Duty Heavy-Duty Boots as allowing it allows it to switch into the field multiple times. Heavy Duty Boots It can also be used if the user is expecting the opponent to stack Spikes or Toxic Spikes.

**Custap Berry**: This Custap Berry can be used in conjunction with Endure to make use of the aforementioned Endure + Custap Berry set overcome its low Speed and fire off one last attack.

**Weakness Policy**: Chesnaught can use being weak its weaknesses to several typings to its advantage by carrying Weakness Policy (RP) This can help it to win duels it usually would not. This can also work on surprise lead sets, catching opponents off guard foes off-guard. However, this is still difficult to pull of viably thanks to Chesnaught's middling Special bulk Defense and low Speed, which causes it to be easily revenged revenge killed, making it usually only good for one kill KO.

Tera
========
Though there are usually better Tera Captains available at this Chesnaught's price point, Chesnaught it is a decent secondary Tera user, (AC) as most of its defensive drawbacks come from its defensive typing. Chesnaught It greatly appreciates Terastalizing Terastallizing into common good defensive typings like Tera Fairy, Water, Dragon, (AC) and or Steel. Tera can also be used to boost the power of Chesnaught's coverage moves. Tera Ghost is also a good option as it can be used to block opposing Rapid Spin after setting up Spikes. Chesnaught's Iron Defense sets become significantly more potent through the use of Tera, (AC) as they can become very difficult to take down after a smart defensive Terastalization Terastallization.

Draft Strategy
