Sacred Sword can be used to deal with Kingambit and Garganacl, which can otherwise safely switch into Chien-Pao, while Ice Shard can be used as a priority option for faster threats like Choice Scarf Meowscarada and Dragon Dance Dragonite. Heavy-Duty Boots allows for Chien-Pao to more reliably check its common targets, while Life Orb can be used to wallbreak more effectively. Frail offensive teammates like Gengar and Iron Moth appreciate Chien-Pao's ability to handle priority users that they'd otherwise be susceptible to. Chien-Pao can have a hard time breaking through physically defensive walls like Corviknight and Dondozo, so pairing it with a specially offensive threat that can handle them like Sandy Shocks or Rotom-W is advised.
