ORAS OU Charizard X Balanced Team

Hi guys today I am featuring a team around Mega Charizard X! I am new too team building so this team is not really original but I think it has good synergy. With out further ado lets get to the team!

Charizard-Mega-X @ Charizardite X
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 248 HP / 152 Atk / 108 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Fire Punch
- Roost

The Pokemon I wanted to build my team around Mega Charizard X. I choose him because he is my favorite dragon type pokemon and I wanted to build a team around him. I started off with the standard 252 atk 252 speed with EQ instead of roost, but realized it was kinda sub par and went for a bulky dragon dancer instead. The move set is pretty self explanatory ddance to set up dclaw and fpunch for stab, and roost to help him set up easier and keep him on the field for as long as possible.

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 208 Def / 48 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
My defensive wall that is part of my FWG, DFS core! Ferrothorn is such a great pokemon from the defensive side and somewhat the offensive side. He has good synergy with Charizard because he can take rock, dragon and can take some ground attacks that threaten Charizard. The evs are to give him massive physical bulk. A relaxed nature with 0 spe ivs makes sure gyro ball is hitting as hard as it can. Leech seed for recovery and damage, stealth rocks as my entry hazards, and power whip just for a powerful grass stab, have also thought about putting protect in the last move set to gain more hp, let me know what you guys think.

Azumarill @ Assault Vest
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Play Rough
- Knock Off
- Aqua Jet
Azumarill is the final member of my core being able to take fire hits for Ferrothorn while being able to take on dragon moves for Charizard. I choose assault vest because I kinda needed a pokemon to take special hits. The ev spread is not the bulkiest from the special side, but can take physical attacks and special attacks better with the hp investment as well as psyshock better. Waterfall and play rough are for stab and can hit a lot of the meta game for super effective damage. Knock off is for knocking items off on predicted switch ins and for eviolite Chansey. Aqua jet is for priority which can help Azumarill revenge kill weakened opponents.

Gengar @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Wave
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
Gengar was chosen because my team lacked a special attacker, and has a fighting immunity to help Ferrothorns fighting weakness as well as give me a ground immunity for Charizard. Also ghost type attacks are only resisted by one type dark, as well as normal types being immune making it one of the best attacking types imo. Psychic is mainly for Mega Venasaur because I really lack a solid check for that. focus blast is for hitting Bisharp and Tyranitar on the switch. Its just the standard special attacking ev spread with life orb to add extra damage.

Excadrill @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin
Obviously with Charizard on my team I need a way to get rid of rocks from my side of the field. I like Excadrill because he can hit fairy's and pokemon like Tyranitar hard for Charizard. I also realized I really only have one check to Heatran, Azumarill so I needed another way to deal with him. I also like him for his ability to late game sweep with earthquake if all his checks are gone.

Rotom-Wash @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 SpD
Bold Nature
- Volt Switch
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hydro Pump
- Rest
This sixth spot on my team is the spot I am having trouble with. I first statred out with Thundurus as a way to check Garchomp, Azumarill and Landorus T. The thin I did not like about him was that he was weak to rocks and really frail, and I felt that half my team was decently bulky ( Zard, Ferro Azumarill). And that half my team was really frail ( Gengar, Excadrill, and Thundurus). So I went to rotom who basically does the job of thundurus but just a bit bulkier he can check Gliscor, Landorus, Garchomp with a burn, and is a second ground immunity. I have had a bit better success with Rotom I am still not sure that he is the right fit for the team and would love feedback on other special attackers that I could put in this last slot that synegize well with the team. I think the moves are pretty self explanatory volt switch to keep offensive momentum, wilo to spread status and cripple attackers, hydro pump water stab and rest to keep him around longer!

So thats my team I hope you guys can help me with the last moveslot, and give me ways to improve this team! Thanks again for reading this!

Threat List:
Mega Bunny
Serperior
Excadrill
Charizard y
Mega Vennasaur

I have really shaky checks for these pokemon. Seperior is probably my biggest threat so far I noticed.

you can import the team here to try it out!

Oh, it'd really help if you provided an importable; teams are best tested in field, and not many people are willing to copy and paste each mon :)

Anyways, at first glance it seems to me that a bulky WoW Zard would help deal with mons such as Mega lopunny, mega Venu, and especially serperior.

Charizard-Mega-X @ Charizardite X
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 232 HP / 52 Atk / 112 SpD / 112 Spe
Careful Nature
- Roost
- Fire Punch
- Dragon Claw
- Will-O-Wisp

Some important calcs:
252 SpA Serperior Leaf Storm vs. 232 HP / 112+ SpD Mega Charizard X: 33-40 (9.2 - 11.2%) -- possible 9HKO

252 SpA Serperior Dragon Pulse vs. 232 HP / 112+ SpD Mega Charizard X: 120-142 (33.8 - 40%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

+2 252 SpA Serperior Dragon Pulse vs. 232 HP / 112+ SpD Mega Charizard X: 238-280 (67 - 78.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

52 Atk Tough Claws Mega Charizard X Fire Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Serperior: 294-348 (101 - 119.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

NOTE THAT SERPERIOR`S CALCS ARE WITHOUT A LIFE ORB

These calcs tell you that ya MUST switch zardx on serperior on the first leaf storm and you MUST keep rocks OFF the field.

Alternatively, you can run an EV spread where ya dump all 112 speed ev`s into hp and SpD, but you sacrifice the ability to Will-o-Wisp an adamant Gyrados before it EQ`s.
(I actually run this set myself)

Alternatively, I recommend playing a specially defensive Zapdos to take care of Serperior as well, instead of Rotom-W.

zapdos.gif

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 76 Def / 184 SpD
Calm Nature
- Discharge
- Heat Wave
- Roar
- Roost

Beautiful Calcs:
0 SpA Zapdos Heat Wave vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Serperior: 172-204 (59.1 - 70.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Life Orb Serperior Leaf Storm vs. 248 HP / 184+ SpD Zapdos: 78-94 (20.3 - 24.5%) -- guaranteed 5HKO

+2 252 SpA Life Orb Serperior Leaf Storm vs. 248 HP / 184+ SpD Zapdos: 156-185 (40.7 - 48.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

+2 252 SpA Life Orb Serperior Dragon Pulse vs. 248 HP / 184+ SpD Zapdos: 138-162 (36 - 42.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

This means that Zapdos takes Serp quite well; unfortunately, rock MUST be cleared for Zapdos to accomplish its task.

Thank you for the suggestion, I might try running this set my self and see how it works! Does anyone have anything that you can suggest to replace rotom that has good synergy with the team and is a special attacker? Thanks again for the suggestion Ill try it our on showdown!

Hey,

As you said in your post, Serperior is a pretty big issue for your team, as is Mega Lopunny. Serperior gets a free switch on Rotom-W and just sweeps from there, while Lopunny can come in on Gengar or a Rock Slide from Excadrill and do massive damage. The biggest threat to the team I see though is Landorus. It 2HKOs everything and the only way you can deal with it is Scarf Excadrill's Iron Head or Azu's Aqua Jet, both of which can only kill it if it's been significanly weakened. There are also a few problems with your sets that will end up making your team function poorly in actual battles. But they shouldn't be too hard to fix.

The first thing that stands out to me is that I don't really like Scarf Excadrill on this team. It's too weak, and it's not a very reliable spinner at all, being forced to lock itself into Rapid Spin is never a good thing. I also don't think Gengar is really necessary on this team. It does nice damage to balanced teams, to be sure, but so does Zard X. Otherwise ti just takes up a slot without providing too much to the team. Instead, I would use Assault Vest Tornadus-T. Tornadus-Therian is one of the best switch-ins to Serperior, as well as Landorus-I (watch out for Rock Slide though), being able to Hurricane the former, and Knock Off the latter's Life Orb. Its STAB Hurricane should also put your worries about Mega Venusaur to rest as well, since it is an easy 2HKO on even the bulkiest of Venu. However, this doesn't fix the Lopunny issue. So to remedy that, I would use Hippowdon over Rotom-W. It might seem odd to use Hippo over Rotom, but it is a Pokemon that serves as a Lopunny check, Bird check, and electric check all in one, which your team definitely could use. And with a reliable sand setter on your team, you can use LO Sand Rush Excadrill instead of your current scarf set. This pairs much better with Zard, as LO makes it hit much harder, wearing down common physical walls like Hippo and Landorus-T. If you want, you could try BD Azumarill over AV to break walls even more, but it's entirely up to you. Lastly change your Zard's EV spread to outspeed Landorus-T with a Scarf (I gave you the EVs below).

Anyway, those changes should cover most of the issues you were having. I hope I was able to help. Good luck!
