[SET]
Name Sub Charge beam Lanturn
Move 1: Charge beam
Move 2: Substitute
Move 3: Surf
Move 4: Ice beam/Thunderbolt/ Hidden power physic
Ability: volt absorb
Item Leftovers
Nature Modest
Evs 50 HP/200 Sp.att/136 Sp.Def/124 Spe
Why this set deserves to be on site:
-Lanturn's natural Bulk combined with it's ability 'Volt absorb' allows it to come in on most tanks and water types and get a substitute up such as Slowbro,Slowking,Non toxic Milotic,Variants of registeel and Blastoise.
-124 Speed evs gurantees to outspeed defensive milotic with 8 speed evs(Its vital to outspeed it to substitute before toxic hits).
-Offensive teams usually have to sacrifice a pokemon to take out Lanturn once behind a sub since most of it's threats are fragile or weak to it's moveset.
Set comments:
With it's astounding 125 base hp and decent defensive bulk, Lanturn can afford to sacrifice Hit points to substitute. With it's immunity to electric attacks as well as it's great typing, there are lots of pokemon in the metagame that invite Lanturn for tea whom it can get a sub up on. This set's primary focus is to get a substitute up as early as possible to kind of scout/wash down the opponent's team so your late game sweepers can mop and dust later easily. Charge beam and substitute are a must on this set for obvious reasons and the 3rd slot is occupied by Surf, primarily because it's STAB and also provides good coverage with charge beam. The final slot is open to several moves with Ice beam probably being the best option if your fellow team mates appreciate the lack of surviving grass types and Altaria later on. Thunderbolt is to simply hit hard whatever surf doesn't once you've gotten a few special attack raises and hidden power grass isn't really of much use but helps Vs water/Ground types such as Quagsire and Whiscash whom would set up all over you without it. 50 Hp evs is for the sole purpose of having over 400 Hp to be able to take over 4 seismic toss.
Counters:
-Bulky walls with Toxic can easily take on Lanturn. Chansey and clefable are among the top 2 choices with bulky grass types such as Venusaur following after. Registeel with earthquake can finish of Lanturn before it gets it's special attack high enough to do any real damage. Dugtrio can come in on a predicted thunderbolt/Charge beam and easily OHKO with earthquake.
Partners:
-Venusaur, Moltres, Altaria, Tangrowth, Uxie, Weezing and Leafeon all my make excellent partners in crime for Lanturn.
