Removed RestTalk sets as they are horribly outclassed by Arcanine

[Overview]

Thanks to his excellent typing, Solid Rock ability, and an immunity to both Thunder Wave and Will-O-Wisp, Camerupt becomes a difficult sweeper to overcome. Its high offensive stats and reliable STAB moves make him a tough Pokemon to predict against, making him even harder to counter. Although Camerupt's Speed is lacking, it doesn't affect his ability to sweep; Trick Room and Rock Polish allow you to take control of Camerupt's Speed and use it effectively. A major downfall is his dual weakness to common Water-type attacks.

[SET]
name: Trick Room Attacker
move 1: Fire Blast
move 2: Hidden Power Grass
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Stone Edge / Explosion / AncientPower
item: Life Orb
ability: Solid Rock
nature: Quiet
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpA
ivs: 3 Spe

[Set Comments]

Camerupt's great attacking stats, poor Speed, and good type coverage make it ideal for a Trick Room Pokemon. Fire Blast is Camerupt's most powerful STAB move outside of Eruption (which is unreliable due to the prevalence of enty hazards), while Hidden Power Grass is used to hit Water-types like Milotic and Slowbro super effectively. Earthquake allows Camerupt to hit Pokemon that are immune to his STAB Fire attacks, like Houndoom and Arcanine, and it also hits special walls like Chansey. Stone Edge allows Camerupt to hit Flying-types like Moltres and Altaria super effectively, while AncientPower is a special-based alternative. Explosion is used as a last resort move, removing bulky opponents and preventing stall.

[Additional Comments]

The EVs on this set focus on Camerupt's Special Attack. Maximum EVs allow him to deal massive damage with its STAB Fire Blast, while a Quiet nature doesn't weaken the power of Earthquake. 252 Attack EVs are used as they boost the power of Earthquake and Stone Edge. The remaining EVs are placed into his HP stat. Using a Quiet nature with 3 Speed IVs allow Camerupt to have the minimum Speed possible while still giving Hidden Power a Base Power of 70. If you decide against Hidden Power, the Speed IV can be set to 0.

Support from Trick Room is recommended due to Camerupt's low Speed stat. With Trick Room in effect, Camerupt will be able to outrun most of the UU tier and hit them with a full powered Eruption. Uxie is a fine choice to set up Trick Room due to its excellent defenses and a myriad of support moves. Slowbro is another option as he can switch into Water-type moves with a resistance, and also has an instant recovery move in the form of Slack Off. However he should watch out for a super effective Hidden Power

Although this set is designed to be used in Trick Room, Camerupt is unable to deal significant damage to Water-types outside of Hidden Power Grass. To deal with this problem, Electric-types like Magneton and Rotom can be used to hit opponents with STAB Thunderbolt. Bulky Grass-types are also effective Pokemon to deal with the likes of Milotic and Slowbro. Venusaur is a fine choice due to his excellent typing and access to powerful STAB moves like Power Whip, and support options like Sleep Powder and Leech Seed.

[SET]
name: Rock Polish
move 1: Rock Polish
move 2: Fire Blast
move 3: Earth Power
move 4: Explosion
item: Life Orb / Expert Belt
ability: Solid Rock
nature: Mild
evs: 40 Atk / 252 SpA / 216 Spe

[Set Comments]

Rock Polish allows Camerupt to overcome his disappointing Speed stat. Fire Blast is one of Camerupt's most powerful STAB attacks, which is more reliable than Eruption as entry hazards are common in UU. Earth Power is used for a secondary STAB and it also hits other Fire-types like Houndoom and Arcanine. Explosion is used to take out a dangerous threat or bulky wall that will cause problems for your team. AncientPower or Stone Edge may be used in place of Explosion if you wish to hit Moltres and Altaria super effectively.

[Additional Comments]

216 Speed EVs allow Camerupt to outrun Timid Mismagius after a single Rock Polish. Using more EVs is unnecessary as nothing notable will be outsped. Max Special Attack is used to give Fire Blast and Earth Power considerable force behind them. The remaining EVs are placed into Attack, giving Explosion more power behind it.

Camerupt has a dual weakness to Water-types; making Lanturn an ideal partner with her massive HP and respectable Special Defense stats. Access to STAB Thunderbolt lets Lanturn deal great damage to Water-types. Ludicolo is another great choice as he has high HP and Special Defense stats, access to super effective STAB moves, and great typing; only having weaknesses to Bug-, Flying-, and Poison-type attacks.

[Team Options]

Water-types are a burden for Camerupt as he cannot deal huge damage with its STAB moves, while these Pokemon have the chance to OHKO Camerupt with their STAB moves. Offensively, Venusaur is a great option as he can switch into Water-types with a resistance and threaten them with Power Whip or Leaf Storm. Bulkier opponents like Milotic and Slowbro can be stalled with a combination of Leech Seed and Sleep Powder. Electric-types like Rotom and Magneton can also hit Water-types with their STAB Thunderbolt.

Defensively, a bulky Water-type of your own is helpful as it can wall Altaria, Moltres, and other Water-types that cause problems for Camerupt. Milotic is an excellent option as she can hit Moltres super effectively, while Ice Beam can be used to deal with Altaria. Blastoise is another option as he can remove entry hazards with Rapid Spin, hit Moltres and Altaria super effectively with Surf or Ice Beam, and cripple other bulky Waters with Toxic. Most bulky Water-types are special based, making Chansey an ideal switch-in. Chansey is also helpful as she is able to cripple opponents with Toxic, support your team as a cleric, and she can also bypass Water-types' great defensive stats with Seismic Toss.

Bulky Water-types are commonly paired with Grass-types like Venusaur. Chansey can be used to deal with special versions of Venusaur and most Water-types. She can switch into any special based attack due to her huge Special Defense and HP stats. Sceptile can OHKO all Milotic with Choice Specs Leaf Storm and 2HKO offensive Venusaur with Hidden Power Fire or Ice.

[Optional Changes]

Sunny Day and Solarbeam allow Camerupt to hit Water-types, though its low Speed is a letdown. Body slam can be used to abuse the 30% paralysis rate, which helps Camerupt overcome its low Speed, though it's unreliable. Stockpile can be used to boost Camerupt's defenses, while Swallow may be used alongside Stockpile to recover some of its health. Rest and Sleep Talk can be used, allowing Camerupt to absorb status effects and restore its health. Arcanine does this better, however. Camerupt also has access to Stealth Rock and a few status moves, though this isn't the best option due to Camerupt's average defenses and poor typing.

[Counters]

Water-types make great counters for Camerupt as they can hit him super effectively, while they take little damage from any of his STAB moves. Milotic is an excellent option as status moves aren't a big issue as she has Marvel Scale, while she has an instant recovery move in Recover. Poliwrath is another option as he can set up Substitute as Camerupt attempts to use Will-O-Wisp, then proceed with Bulk Up or Waterfall.

Altaria is an option as she has an immunity to Ground-type moves and a resistance to Fire-type moves. Natural Cure is also helpful as it rids Altaria of status upon switching out. Chansey also shares Natural Cure, along with her high HP and Special Defense Chansey is another excellent counter for Camerupt. Chansey must beware of Explosion, however. Moltres is an option as it has an immunity to Ground moves and a resistance to Fire moves, though it should be careful of Stone Edge and switching into Stealth Rock.

Thick Fat Hariyama is effective as he will take reduced damage from Fire Blast; which doesn't 2HKO even when Camerupt has Choice Specs. Hariyama has access to both Earthquake and Brick Break, which will 2HKO any offensive Camerupt. Hariyama should beware of the rare Will-O-Wisp as it doesn't have Guts.

Without Rock Polish or Trick Room, Camerupt is slow. Hitting it super effectively before it has the chance to set up will severly reduce Camerupt's chance of sweeping.

Grammar-checked the sets.

[Overview]

Thanks to its excellent typing, Solid Rock ability, and an immunity to both Thunder Wave and Will-O-Wisp, Camerupt is a great team supporter. The fun doesn't stop there, though. Camerupt's high offensive stats make it a tough Pokemon to predict, making it even harder to counter. Although Camerupt's Speed is lacking, it doesn't affect its ability to sweep; Trick Room and Rock Polish allow you to take control of Camerupt's Speed and use it effectively. Camerupt should be avoided in OU as Heatran outclasses it in every way, due to better resistances and higher Special Attack. A major downfall is its dual weakness to common Water-type attacks.

[SET]
name: Support
move 1: Lava Plume
move 2: Earth Power
move 3: Stealth Rock
move 4: Yawn / Toxic / Will-O-Wisp / Explosion
item: Leftovers
ability: Solid Rock
nature: Modest
evs: 220 HP / 36 SpA / 252 SpD

[Set Comments]

This set aims to support Camerupt's teammates. Thanks to its above average defensive stats, Solid Rock ability, and important resistances to common Grass- (But Camerupt doesn't resist Grass...) and Fire-type moves, Camerupt is able to switch in numerous times and cripple the opponent with a combination of Stealth Rock and a status move.

Lava Plume and Earth Power give Camerupt reliable STAB moves to hit the opponent with, while also providing excellent type coverage. Stealth Rock is one of the most dangerous support moves in the game; with Stealth Rock set up, opponents such as Altaria and Moltres will lose large amounts of health upon switching in. Yawn allows Camerupt to put Pokemon to sleep, and it also causes switches; Toxic allows Camerupt to cripple bulky opponents that it's unable to damage ordinarily, like Moltres and Altaria; Will-O-Wisp will cripple any oncoming physical sweeper. Explosion can be used to take out a potential threat to your team.

[Additional Comments]

The EVs focus on Camerupt's higher Special Defense stat. 220 EVs in HP allow Camerupt to reach a reliable number for Leftovers recovery, and max Special Defense allows Camerupt to survive powerful neutral hits. The remaining EVs are placed into Special Attack and a Modest nature is used to give its attacking moves more power. If you opt for Explosion in the last slot, a Quiet nature is advised as it doesn't lower Camerupt's Attack stat.

Water-types are an obstacle for Camerupt as they can switch into either of its attacking moves and threaten it with a super effective hit. Grass-types, such as Venusaur, are great partners for Camerupt as they resist Water-type moves and can hit Water-types super effectively with their STAB moves. Sceptile is another option as it has superior Special Attack and Speed stats to Venusaur. If you wish to play more defensively, Tangrowth is the best choice; with many great support moves, such as Sleep Powder and Knock Off.

[SET]
name: Choice Specs
move 1: Eruption / Fire Blast
move 2: Earth Power
move 3: Explosion
move 4: AncientPower / Hidden Power Grass
item: Choice Specs
ability: Solid Rock
nature: Quiet
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpA
ivs: 3 Spe

[Set Comments]

Camerupt's great Special Attack and good type coverage make it ideal for a Choice Specs set. Eruption and Fire Blast are two of Camerupt's most powerful STAB moves, Earth Power is used as secondary STAB, while it provides excellent type coverage along with either Fire move. Explosion allows Camerupt to remove special walls such as Chansey in a single turn, while AncientPower hits Altaria and Moltres. Hidden Power Grass hits Water-types.

[Additional Comments]

The EVs on this set focus on Camerupt's Special Attack. Maximum EVs allow it to deal massive damage with its STAB moves, while a Quiet nature doesn't weaken the power of Explosion. 252 Attack EVs give Camerupt the power to severely damage everything with Explosion, barring those that have a resistance or immunity to it. The remaining EVs are placed into HP. Using a Quiet nature with 3 Speed IVs allows Camerupt to have the minimum Speed possible while still giving Hidden Power a Base Power of 70. If you decide against Hidden Power, the Speed IV can be set to 0.

As this set is designed to be as slow as possible, support from Trick Room is recommended. With Trick Room in effect, Camerupt will be able to outrun most of the UU tier and hit them with a full powered Eruption. Uxie is a fine choice to set up Trick Room due to its excellent defenses and a myriad of support moves. Slowbro is another option as it can switch into Water-type moves with a resistance, and it also has a single turn recovery move in the form of Slack Off.

To deal with this problem, Electric-types like Raikou and Magneton can be used to hit opponents with STAB Thunderbolt. Electric-types should beware of Pokemon like Quagsire, who are immune to Thunderbolt. Because of this, Hidden Power Grass is recommended.

[SET]
name: Choice Band
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Stone Edge
move 3: Overheat
move 4: Explosion
item: Choice Band
ability: Solid Rock
nature: Brave
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpA
ivs: 0 Spe

[Set Comments]

Besides its Special Attack, Camerupt also has a high Attack stat. A decent physical movepool allows Camerupt to use a Choice Band effectively, while it can also use Overheat to defeat common physical walls like Steelix and Tangrowth. Earthquake is a reliable STAB move and provides great type coverage along with Stone Edge; this allows Camerupt to hit Flying-types like Altaria that switch into Earthquake. Explosion is used as a last resort to take out a dangerous Pokemon on the opponent's team, and it also deals hefty damage to bulky Water-types like Milotic and Slowbro.

[Additional Comments]

Max Attack is vital on this set as it allows Camerupt to deal powerful hits. Maximum Special Attack gives Camerupt more power behind Overheat, allowing it to OHKO Tangrowth and Steelix. The remaining EVs are placed into HP. As this set doesn't use Hidden Power, as Speed IV of 0 can be used. A Brave nature is used as it lowers Camerupt's Speed and doesn't lower the power of Overheat.

Again, this set is designed to be as slow as possible as Camerupt is suited for Trick Room. Slowbro is a great choice to set up Trick Room as it can switch into Water-type moves aimed at Camerupt and also has an abysmal Speed stat itself. Claydol is another option as it has excellent defensive stats and a wide support movepool, but it shares Camerupt's Water weakness.

Bulky Water-types like Milotic and Slowbro cause Camerupt problems as they take little damage from any physical move barring Explosion, which would take Camerupt's life. Chansey is an excellent check to both Milotic and Slowbro as she can switch into any of their attacks and cripple them with Toxic. Chansey is also a great status absorber if Milotic has Hypnosis, thanks to Natural Cure.

move 3: Earth Power
move 4: Explosion
item: Life Orb / Expert Belt
ability: Solid Rock
nature: Mild
evs: 40 Atk / 252 SpA / 216 Spe

[Set Comments]

Rock Polish allows Camerupt to overcome its disappointing Speed stat. Fire Blast is one of Camerupt's most powerful STAB attacks, which is more reliable than Eruption on this set as Camerupt will be using a Life Orb and has a higher chance of taking a hit. Earth Power is used for secondary STAB and it also hits other Fire-types like Houndoom. Explosion is used to take out a dangerous threat or bulky wall that will cause problems for your team. Explosion should be used as a last resort as it costs Camerupt's life. AncientPower or Stone Edge may be used in place of Explosion if you wish to hit Moltres and Altaria super effectively.

[Additional Comments]

216 Speed EVs allow Camerupt to outrun Timid Mismagius after a single Rock Polish. Using more EVs is unneccessary as nothing notable will be outsped. Max Special Attack is used to give Fire Blast and Earth Power a considerable force behind them. The remaining EVs are placed into Attack, giving Explosion more power behind it.

Camerupt has a dual weakness to Water-types; Lanturn is an effective counter to most Water-types with its massive HP and respectable Special Defense stats. Lanturn also has Volt Absorb, allowing it to recover health from Hidden Power Electric. Access to STAB Thunderbolt lets Lanturn deal great damage to Water-types. Ludicolo is another great choice as it has high HP and Special Defense stats, access to Leech Seed, and great typing; with only three weaknesses to Bug-, Flying-, and Poison-type attacks.

For first I disagree with recommending Trick Room for choice sets. Trick Room has only 5 turns and if you switch on field after Trick Room activation from partner you have only 3 turns. It's not worth it, one misprediction and you just lost sweeping chance. I think I would go with Max HP/Max SpA spread for Choice Specs (Moltres, Altaria and Chansey won't survive Explosion anyway and Camerupt has good enough bulk and resistances to use with good effect of those HP EVs) or the same EVs you mentioned (if you think that you really need that boosted power of Explosion). Choice Band looks fine right now. For Trick Room, I recommend a bit different set.

Camerupt @ Life Orb / Expert Belt
4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Atk
Quiet Nature
~ Eruption (with Expert Belt) / HP Grass
~ Earth Power
~ Fire Blast
~ Explosion

I would just like to say, even if I didn't use Trick Room, the risk of a misprediction is still there no matter what. Surprisingly, over three turns Camerupt will be able to deal a lot of damage and explode on the final turn. I don't see the big advantage over the set I already have listed besides the item choice(and the slashes), which I'll comment on. I'll change it to "support from Trick Room is an option", meaning that you don't have to use it. Also, I mention Camerupt's low Speed and say it's reccommended, not vital. Camerupt is slow, and can take advantage of Trick Room so "why not?" it deserves a mention on the sets as I doubt a set dedicated to Trick Room is needed as they all work anyway(also they both use -Speed natures for Explosion/Overheat anyway).

However Trick Room are highly offensive teams (and most of times they lack bulk) and really, they can't afford to loose any turns (it's especially important is opponent lays on field Toxic Spikes). And if some deadly sweeper switches on last turn of TR, you're a toast. So I would really not recommend Trick Room if only for this reason. And generally using choice items in TR teams is a mistake. And choice freedom is always good to have, as for example Omastar switches in on Fire Blast and you finish it with HP Grass. With Specs, it would be impossible. And if you mispredict with it on other teams - you may always switch out to your resist (as I don't think this Camerupt fits for highly offfensive teams and you'll always have something to absorb his weaknesses on other type of teams). Switch here won't cost you as much as on TR teams.

But if you think it's ok, then sure, why not. However for me it's not the best option as it's not really recommended for any TR teams.

EDIT: Sure, it looks fine. Sorry for that bitching, however it's really important to mention everything we need, also disadvantages (Choice sets on Trick Room are really RISKY, as many deadly sweepers only wait for free turns, especially when TR ends and here is hurts more, as most of them outspeed your team and TR teams don't have bulk to defend from them).

This is why I added an Expert Belt the main item option (I did this before you posted the reply, I guess you didn't see), Choice items are unreliable :P. And again, Trick Room is an option, in case people want to use it, not saying you have to. Hopefully that has cleared up all of your queries.

Edit - No worries, though most Trick Room teams carry a fast sweeper for outside the effect.

Will check the rest later. I am actually of the opinion that Camerupt would rather have 252 HP EVs on the Choice Specs set as opposed to 252 Atk EVs. To be totally honest packing 252 EVs just for one move seems a bit like overkill to me. I think that the extra bulk provided by said HP EVs on the other hand would make switching Camerupt in a hell of a lot easier, which is especially important for a Choice Specs user (or rather any Pokemon that utilizes a Choice item). Same thing goes on the Choice Band set: I personally think that the 252 SpA EVs would be better off in HP. I also tried to concise this somewhat even though it was already quite good.

P.S. you change your avatar too much :P

Rock Polish allows Camerupt to overcome its disappointing Speed stat. Fire Blast is one of Camerupt's most powerful STAB attacks, which is more reliable than Eruption on this set as Camerupt will be using a Life Orb and has a higher chance of taking a hit. Earth Power is used for a secondary STAB move and it also hits other Fire-types like Houndoom.

Using more EVs is unnecessary as nothing notable will be outsped.

Access to STAB Thunderbolt lets Lanturn deal great damage to Water- types. Ludicolo is another great choice as it has high HP and Special Defense stats, access to Leech Seed, and great typing, only having three weaknesses to Bug-, Flying-, and Poison-type attacks.

It is really amazing site having lovely & decent information. I have already bookmark this site. Thanks for posting really nice post.

Just a nitpick, I really think the "Special/Physical Sweeper" sets should be renamed to "Special/Physical Attacker". The reason is that without Trick Room, Camerupt is not going to be sweeping due to its low Speed and subpar defenses. If you actually desire the set to be a sweeper set, make it something like "Trick Room, Physical/Special" because it's ONLY going to be sweeping under Trick Room.

i have doubts about the effectiveness of the physical attacker set since while camerupt's typing is unique, it doesn't afford him too many chances to switch in (when coupled with middling defenses) with cb while it doesnt really hit hard at all without a boost since its attack stat isnt too great.

i was thinking about changing the special attacker to a normal attacking set, probably to be used in trick room since the rock polish set works better outside of it. i don't like eruption because (a) hazards and you're not super fast, not taking into account tr, which can weaken its power (b) a boosting item helps get many more kills than the extra power of eruption - lo fire blast is more powerful than regular eruption. this set would probably be mixed. i'm thinking of something along these lines right now:

camerupt @ life orb (mild or rash)
252 spa / some atk / rest in hp
- fire blast
- hp grass
- earthquake
- stone edge

i made this around fire blast. it's your most powerful attack, so you want the other moves to cover the things that it doesn't hit. hp grass for water pokemon, earthquake for other grounded fire resists (arcanine/houndoom) and chansey, and stone edge for moltres. could use ancientpower or something over stone edge i guess. uu qc people can prolly figure out the optimal spread for this in terms of how much atk is needed but i think something along these lines is camerupt's most viable non-rp set.

the support set could maybe have status moves slashed in over one of the attacks (probably earth power).

to be clear, the only sets i think are more or less ok are the support and rock polish sets.

I have to vouch for the Rock Polish set. It is frail and is stopped hard-core by Milotic, but it is effective. And instead of Explosion I found Stone Edge or Ancientpower to be suitable replacements for nailing Moltres if nothing else. Camerupt is capable of pulling a physical based Rock Polish set, but the lack of Fire STAB hurts, and is generally outclassed by Torterra or Aggron.

As for the support set... I just found Camerupt to be too frail to use it. If I was going to use a Fire-type support Poke, I think I would rather consider using Magcargo. They are both utterly stopped by Water-types and take neutral damage from Grass attacks, but Magcargo has a base 120 defense stat compared to Camerupt's 70, and has Reflect and Light Screen along with Stealth Rock and Will-o-wisp.

Agreeing with Oglemi in regards to the support set. Horrible defenses mean that practically the only things you wall are Electric-types. Rock Polish is fine, I believe - don't really have much of an impression on most of the other sets.

Okay, changes that will be considered and made:

-Remove Support set and mention Camerupt's ability to use Stealth Rock and cripple opponents with status (in Optional Changes). Camerupt is outclassed.
-Remove Physical Attacker set and change Special Attacker to Quiet nature (I believe Quiet is more effective as you mention using this in Trick Room, also Camerupt already has horrible Speed)and a moveset of Fire Blast, Hidden Power Grass, Earthquake, and Stone Edge / Ancientpower.

Working on it as we speak.

edit- Expert Belt is leftover from old set, my mistake which has been removed.

you should probably test the set seeing as what I posted was 100% theorymon I came up in the car on the way to the mall

btw your location field doesn't synchronize with your post count

edit @ garganator: obviously w/ quakeedge you'd max attack; eq deals 59.6% - 70.4% to chansey. also not sure what kind of milotics you're playing but quiet lo earth power only deals 38.2% - 45% to her.

double edit: why does it have expert belt (calcs please)

Just my two cents about Trick Room Camerupt, as I used it tons of times. And I think this spread and moveset isn't the most effective.

Go with 252 Atk / 252 SpA and replace Stone Edge / AncientPower with Explosion (or at least make it main option). Explosion on Trick Room teams is extremely important, as stall is really too big threat to ignore it and Camerupt have good power to abuse it to maximum. Also slash in Earth Power - it's a bit niche, but with Earth Power you don't need to predict HP Grass on Max HP/Max Def Bold Milotic, as Earth Power also 2OHKO with SR up. Also without Explosion Chansey is a problem, especially without physical attack investment.

And this bulk from HP EVs isn't that really important - for first on TR teams you make switches only when neccesary and you base those switches not on bulk, but on resists - and Camerupt has solid typing to switch on some targets even without those HP EVs.

That's it ;). I hope that helps.

If I recall correctly, Ludicolo's Leech Seed set got removed, so perhaps the move shouldn't be recommended in the teammates for the RP set.

Oh, and I think your 1st intro sentence should be changed. While Camerupt provides some nice immunities, it's misleading to call him a "supporter" since all his sets are offensive.

I personally prefer having maximum Attack (I would....) than HP on the TR set simply because I use Earthquake over Fire Blast when I can since it has perfect accuracy.

Otherwise it looks great.
