SV OU Call me "Ash Ketchum": A Pikachu Balanced Offense Team(1706 elo)

Hello guys! It is so nice to be in smogon once again! Today, I wrote this post because I wanted to show you my team.

First, here is the paste of my new team.

As you can see, this is a Pikachu team with Kingambit and Zamazenta as core of the team. And I would like to explain you how this team actually works. Oh, and if anything seems wrong, let me know.


I Choose You (Pikachu-Original) @ Light Ball

EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature

- Grass Knot

:pikachu-original: is the mascot of my team, and a counter for major meta mons like :great tusk: and :raging bolt:. It can move faster than :great tusk:, and use Grass Knot to OHKO him. And for :raging bolt:, :pikachu-original: has Fairy Tera, so that he can have the immunity of electric type(Lightning Rod)and dragon type. Also, with upper hand, he was able to fuck up some :kingambit:s with Sucker Punch.The best part of using :pikachu-original: was that everyone underestimated him and didn't switch.(lol)

Knuckles (Gouging Fire) @ Loaded Dice

Yeah, the most overpowered Fire type Mon in OU. :gouging fire: is usually a lead of the team. He can Dragon Dance out and threaten the foes to Tera or switch. :gouging fire: is the main sweeper of my team, and it's weak to :dondozo:, :gliscor: and :landorus-therian:. So I use him with :primarina:, who can easily counter them.

Undefeatable (Primarina) @ Assault Vest

Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Ice Beam
- Sparkling Aria
- Energy Ball
- Moonblast
:primarina: is a special - bulky mon who can counter most of the special mons with Assault Vest. :primarina:'s role is to click weakness moves against special mons and get a free kill. :primarina: leads when mons like :gliscor: and :landorus-therian: are about to lead. Also, it has Torrent ability, which goes great with the bulkiness of :primarina:.

The King (Kingambit) @ Black Glasses

Ability: Supreme Overlord
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 108 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 144 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Kowtow Cleave
- Sucker Punch
- Swords Dance
- Iron Head
The GOAT.
:kingambit: is an excellent mon with nice stabs and great stats, marvelous ability and a priority move. I put Dark Tera type in it for wall breaking. It is a good pair with :weezing-galar: since :weezing-galar: is very strong to fighting moves. I also gave it 144 speed to outspeed most of :skeledirge:s or :clefable:s.

Wheeze (Weezing-Galar) @ Sitrus Berry

Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Will-O-Wisp
- Fire Blast
- Strange Steam
- Defog
(The pokepaste says it has Poison Tera Type, but switch that to steel if you want to use it more efficiently.)
:weezing-galar: is a uu mon, but trust me, it was very good in OU since it can counter :great tusk: and :zamazenta: with the power of Levitate. Neutralizing Gas is not bad for defogging against :gholdengo:, but use Levitate since this team is weak to ground types. It is given 72 speed to outspeed and wisp 144 speed :kingambit:.

Shieldog (Zamazenta) @ Choice Band

Ability: Dauntless Shield
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 86 Def / 170 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Iron Head
- Crunch
Band :zamazenta: is a very strong physical attacker. With Close Combat, it can one shot most of the mons that has no resistance to fighting types. Also, Crunch can counter :slowking-galar: cores since Crunch can 2HKO :slowking-galar:.
With Fire Tera, it can be resistant to burn, which is very annoying.

With will-o-wisp on Weezing, you should change Primarina to Surf, otherwise Sparking Aria can heal burned mons of opp. Cool team tho, good work!

But I would like to keep Sparkling Aria because it bypasses substitute!(It's pretty useful when countering substitute moth.)

  • An interesting option would be Liquid Voice+Psychic Noise, as it also bypasses Substitute while also allowing damage to stick on 'mons that otherwise can sit and recover on Primarina. It also probably allows you to slot in Flip Turn, which allows you to keep up offensive momentum that you need versus mons that threaten your team.
  • Leftovers/Boots over Sitrus on Weezing feels like a mandatory change; in a longer game you only need to be on the field for more than 4 turns for Leftovers recovery to outdo Sitrus Berry, and it only takes 3 switch-ins on rocks for Boots to provide more longevity. You could also consider Pain Split over Fire Blast.
  • Gouging Fire is nice here; consider a bulkier Breaking Swipe set for slightly easier play against physical threats.
Overall I think the team could struggle a bit against breakers like Ogerpon-W and Kyurem as well as against certain other threats like Iron Moth. However, the level of offense is definitely enough to outplay them before they get a chance to cook. Good team, love Pikachu.

You made a small mistake with the EVs of Zama. It should be 172 Speed and 84 Defense not 170 and 86. 170 and 86 don't give you extra stats compared to 172 and 84. You also made this mistake in your Pokepaste. You just have 2 dead EVs in Speed and Def. Also I think with CB you have to run Attack investment otherwise Zama hits like paper. I would recommend this set if you want AoA Zama.

I don't really understand the use of Def EVs on an AoA Zama. If you have a reason why you think these EVs are better than the standard set please explain them. The first Ev spread here is for Adamant, the second for Jolly Zama. The set for Jolly Zama has enough Speed to outspeed Darkrai by 3 points and speedcreep other Zamas who run 152 Speed Evs while maxxing out Attack and just dumping the rest into HP. Tera Steel as the best defensive Type and to dump on Fairys, Psychics and Flyings or Tera Fire to beat Wisp Dragapult.

Regarding the EV correction you misunderstood me. Having 170 EVs in Speed gives you the same stat as using 168 Speed EVs. 170 isn't a multiple of 4 so it doens't increase the stat compared to using 168 EVs. To increase your stat by one point from 168 EVs you need to choose 172 Speed EVs. Same with the 86 in Defense, if you want the stat you currently have you can use 84 EVs saving 2 EVs again. Combined with the 2 EVs you get from correcting your Speed EVs you get 4 more EVs to invest. The problem is not your EV benchmark but that you miscalculated and were not using multiples of 4 for your Defense and Speed EVs. Sorry if that was unclear in my first reply, but if you just want outspeed Adamant Dnite after a DD 168 EVs are enough. Regarding the general set it's your choice what you like more. The complicated spread is just my standard for outrunning Darkrai and anything slower. The 252 252 spread is taken from the Smog Dex set. I got the idea for Adamant because someoned used Adamant AoA Zama in a BO team that peaked in the 1900s recently.
