[SET COMMENTS]
  • Tyranitar is one of the best Pokemon in the metagame thanks to its good natural bulk, a great offensive typing that matches up well against the tier's common Pokemon, and its Sand Stream ability. Sand amplifies Tyranitar's Special Defense, letting it function as an emergency check to rain - albeit not a foolproof one due to its Water weakness. The residual damage from sand chips away at foes, breaks Focus Sash, and negates Leftovers healing. However, Tyranitar is susceptible to Intimidate, and its typing makes it weak to common types, such as Ground, Fighting, and Steel.
  • Rock Slide is a reliable spread STAB attack, while Stone Edge can be used for more power, notably allowing Tyranitar to OHKO bulky Thundurus. Crunch is a secondary STAB attack that hits Latios, Jellicent, and Cresselia super effectively. Low Kick rounds out Tyranitar's attacks, allowing it to hit opposing Tyranitar and Heatran super effectively. Stealth Rock allows for additional residual damage and is important in helping Tyranitar pick up KOs, notably putting bulky Thundurus and Jellicent in range of Rock Slide and Crunch, respectively.
  • Chople Berry allows Tyranitar to survive a Fighting-type hit that it could not otherwise, such as opposing Tyranitar's Low Kick, -1 Hitmontop's Fighting Gem-boosted Close Combat, or Landorus-T's Superpower.
  • Tyranitar typically prefers to be sent out as early as possible so it can control the field with sand and Stealth Rock. Tyranitar's bulk lets it tank neutral hits fairly well, allowing it to trade with Pokemon such as Latios and Heatran. Against opposing weather setters, Tyranitar should be preserved as much as possible to win the weather war.
  • Excadrill is a great offensive teammate, taking advantage of sand to turn into a fearsome sweeper that can outspeed the entire metagame. Thundurus's Thunder Wave slows down faster threats for Tyranitar, forming an annoying combination alongside Rock Slide's flinch chance. In return, Tyranitar can threaten opposing Latios and Kyurem-B for Thundurus. Latios appreciates Tyranitar's ability to threaten opposing Latios, Thundurus, and Kyurem-B, while Latios threatens Landorus-T and Conkeldurr for Tyranitar. Jellicent and Tyranitar form a formidable defensive core, with Jellicent being able to cover Fighting-, Steel-, and Water-types that threaten Tyranitar, while Tyranitar beats opposing Jellicent, Kyurem-B, and Thundurus. The residual damage from sand also benefits Jellicent as a defensive win condition by chipping away at the foe's HP, while Jellicent can recover off the damage. Finally, Conkeldurr appreciates Tyranitar being able to beat Jellicent and Psychic-types.
  • Tyranitar has a vast movepool, allowing it to run different coverage moves based on a team's needs, such as Ice Beam, which OHKOes Landorus-T when run alongside a Brave nature. Choice Scarf lets Tyranitar outrun faster threats, such as Latios and Kyurem-B, and OHKO them. Other resistance Berries can be used for specific teams. Babiri Berry with Fire Blast can be helpful on teams that are weak to Steel-types, while Shuca Berry with Ice Beam can be useful on teams weak to Ground-types.

[SET COMMENTS]
  • Choice Band Tyranitar trades some utility for much higher damage output. This set aims to take advantage of Tyranitar's excellent bulk with sand's Special Defense boost to force favorable trades using its strong attacks.
  • Rock Slide is a reliable STAB attack that can be difficult to switch into. Crunch is another STAB attack that does massive damage to Dark-weak foes that fail to pressure Tyranitar back, such as Cresselia and Jellicent. Pursuit lets Tyranitar trap foes that want to switch to generate offensive pressure, such as Latios after a Draco Meteor and Cresselia, as it 2HKOes them even if they don't switch out. Superpower is an alternative over Stone Edge to OHKO Heatran and opposing Tyranitar, and it is preferred over Low Kick for its higher Base Power.
  • Thundurus is an excellent teammate due to Thunder Wave and its ability to threaten Landorus-T. Latios is another great teammate by threatening Fighting-types and Landorus-T while also supporting Tyranitar with Tailwind. Tyranitar supports Latios by threatening Thundurus, Kyurem-B, and opposing Latios. Jellicent and Cresselia set Trick Room while threatening common Intimidate users, such as Landorus-T and Hitmontop. Jellicent is also an excellent rain check, thus covering for Tyranitar's weakness to Water.

  • Tyranitar is one of the best Pokemon in the metagame thanks to Sand Stream, its good natural bulk that is further augmented by the Special Defense boost from sand, and a great offensive typing that matches well into common Pokemon in the tier. Sand Stream also allows Tyranitar to be an emergency check to rain its kind of a soft check since it's weak to rain. you do mention this in the second to last bullet point re: preservation but could mention something here. it doesn't solve the rain matchup itself while the residual damage from sand can put Pokemon into range of KOs and negate Leftovers healing. tbh you could also mention that it's the entire reason that sashes are very uncommon on non sand immune in this tier Tyranitar, however, is susceptible to Intimidate and its typing makes it weak to common types, such as Ground, Fighting, and Steel. Nonetheless, Tyranitar's positives much outweigh the negatives.

If Stealth Rock is not needed on the team, Protect can be used instead.
  • Chople Berry is the item of choice, allowing Tyranitar to survive a Fighting-type hit that it could not otherwise, such as opposing Tyranitar's Low Kick or Landorus-T's Superpower. it can also survive hitmontop gem cc at -1 which is a pretty relevant calc
  • Tyranitar typically prefers to be sent out as early as possible so that it can control the field with sand and Stealth Rock. Tyranitar's natural bulk lets it tank neutral hits fairly well, allowing it to trade with Pokemon, such as Latios and Heatran. Jellicent and Tyranitar can or reword this a diff way it just reads weird maybe gp can help form a formidable defensive core, being able to cover Fighting, Steel, and Water-types that threaten Tyranitar while Tyranitar beats opposing Jellicent, Kyurem-B, and Thundurus. The residual damage from sand also benefits Jellicent as a defensive win-condition. Finally, Conkeldurr appreciates Tyranitar's ability to beat Jellicent and Psychic-types.

  • This set trades a little utility for much stronger damage output.
  • Pursuit allows Tyranitar to snipe Pokemon that are trying to switch. With Choice Band, Pursuit would do massive damage even if the Pokemon doesn't switch, notably allowing Tyranitar to heavily pressure Latios, Jellicent, and Cresselia. Superpower is an alternative over Stone Edge to hit Heatran and opposing Tyranitar and is preferred over Low Kick since it has more reliable base damage.
  • Similar to the above set, this set aims to use Tyranitar's excellent natural bulk to score KOs with trades against neutral hits. With Pursuit, however, Tyranitar can be used to trap Pokemon weak to Dark-types, so preserve its health so that it can beat Pokemon, such as Latios.
  • Similar teammates for the above set work just as well with Choice Band Tyranitar. One key difference is that this set heavily prefers having speed control, such as Thundurus's Thunder Wave or Jellicent and Cresselia's Trick Room. even tailwind is actually quite good with band tar - notably used alongside Latios on a memoric team
  • Tyranitar has a vast movepool, allowing it to run different coverage moves based on the team, such as Ice Beam to hit Landorus-T. Choice Scarf allows Tyranitar to outrun faster threats, such as Latios and Kyurem-B, and OHKO them. Other resist berries can be used for specific teams. Babiri Berry with Fire Blast can be helpful on teams that are weak to Steel-types while Shuca Berry with Ice Beam can be useful on teams weak to Ground-types. this section should probably be moved up to the first section since it's more broad and leave this to be just about band tar

adding all the notes got rly messy so i just did a rewrite here, ill explain on disc

  • This set aims to use Tyranitar's excellent natural bulk to score KOs with trades against neutral hits. mentioned in intro With Pursuit, however, Tyranitar can be used to trap Pokemon weak to Dark-types, mentioned in intro so preserve its health so that it can beat Pokemon, such as Latios. weave into previous point if at all
  • Choice Band Tyranitar prefers speed control. every mon does, is there a way to dress this up Thundurus is an excellent teammate due to Thunder Wave and its ability to threaten Landorus-T. Latios is another great teammate by threatening Fighting-types and Landorus-T,(addcomma) while also supporting Tyranitar with Tailwind. Tyranitar supports Latios by threatening Thundurus, Kyurem-B, and opposing Latios. Jellicent and Cresselia has access to set Trick Room while threatening common Intimidate users, such as Landorus-T and Hitmontop. Jellicent is also an excellent rain check, thus covering for Tyranitar's weakness to Water.
