Introduction

Hey y'all, starting to make my first team and wanted to make a bulky offense team. I initially started out with a core of Melmetal, Garchomp, and Tapu Fini with a supporting core of Lando-T, Clefable, and Volcarona. I eventually dropped Tapu Fini because it felt too passive with a lack of recovery and oriented my Melmetal away from a Choice Band set to an Assault Vest set. I replaced Tapu Fini with Rapid Strike Urshifu as a water type and to serve as a wall breaker.

The Team

Melmetal @ Assault Vest

Ability: Iron Fist

EVs: 128 HP / 116 Atk / 252 SpD / 12 Spe

Careful Nature

- Double Iron Bash

- Earthquake

- Ice Punch

- Thunder Punch

Forum AV set with the given and EV’s. Melmetal serves as my special wall which is also able to tank mon’s attacks and hit back with its decent coverage of Ice/Thunder punch. When using this team, I used Melmetal as my SpDef wall especially considering nothing else really likes switching in on Fairy/Toxic moves. Overall I like having Melmetal as my special wall since it doesn’t feel too passive.

Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet

Ability: Rough Skin

EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 Spe

Jolly Nature

- Stealth Rock

- Earthquake

- Toxic

- Fire Blast

With Melmetal as my SpDef wall, I have bulky Garchomp here to serve as my physical wall and Stealth Rocker. Again pretty typical Forum Rocky Helmet set with investment in HP and Defense to soak up attacks and punish physical attackers with 29% chip. Toxic allows me to threaten setup sweepers and Fire Blast provides some pressure to Steel types.

Landorus-Therian (M) @ Choice Scarf

Ability: Intimidate

EVs: 252 Atk / 12 Def / 244 Spe

Jolly Nature

- Earthquake

- U-turn

- Stone Edge

- Knock Off

Ah Lando-T. This is my utility mon and offers some semblance of speed control to this team. Being able to be immune to ground and acting as a fast pivot to bring in my wallbreakers is always nice. Pretty standard coverage of EQ/ U-Turn/ Stone Edge. I opted to put in Knock Off over Defog because other than my Volcarona, which is running boots, my team is not weak to Stealth Rock and the utility of Knock Off and ability to hit Ghost types is greatly appreciated.

Clefable @ Leftovers

Ability: Magic Guard

EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD

Modest Nature

IVs: 0 Atk

- Calm Mind

- Ice Beam

- Thunderbolt

- Moonblast

Clefable acts as my fairy type and potential sweeper with Calm Mind. Ice Beam / Thunderbolt / Moonblast is amazing coverage and allows me to apply some pressure offensively. Also considering putting in some SpDef/Def into Clefable to act more of a wall or switching my item to Life Orb to act more as a wallbreaker. To be honest, I am most apprehensive of what Clefable does for this team as a whole. If I'm going for a special wall-breaker, I'm considering dropping Leftovers for Life Orb and Calm Mind for a recovery move.

Urshifu-Rapid-Strike @ Choice Band

Ability: Unseen Fist

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

Jolly Nature

- Close Combat

- Aqua Jet

- Surging Strikes

- U-turn

Urshifu Rapid Strike is a wallbreaker, plain and simple. Aqua Jet is my only priority move and the rest of the moves, Surging Strikes and CC allow me a nice stab combo. U-Turn allows me to pivot out if opponent gets a bit overpredict-y. Overall good physical wall-breaker for this team.

volcarona.gif

Volcarona @ Heavy-Duty Boots

Ability: Flame Body

EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe

Timid Nature

IVs: 0 Atk

- Quiver Dance

- Roost

- Flamethrower

- Psychic

Volcarona acts as a Steel and Poison type check for this team. While I was laddering I noticed that I really had trouble dealing with Corv and Toxapex, so I added Volcarona to help me deal with those threats. In additiona, Volc allows me to take advantage of Defogs for free set-up opportunities which is nice. Overall, late game sweeper which helps me deal with some common threats on the ladder

Conclusion

Thanks for reading, this is my first team which I tried to go for a bulky offense core. Any advice would be appreciated!

Typically on a mon like Clef, its threat comes from its immunity to status that normally stops most setup threats, as well as bulk. Currently, your set doesn't do that at all and is very weak to most threats, its lacking speed and other stats without investment leaves it a sitting duck and a weak member of the team aside from its dragon coverage. You had discussed Tapu Fini as having no recovery and being very passive, however, in Clefable's current set it is no better and performs far worse than Fini for no benefit to the team at all.

:ss/Clefable:

In order to perform the needed recovery and threat, Clefable needs to make the most of what it has in its move-pool and optimize its options in those few slots. The best set for its variety is Calm Mind, Soft Boiled, Moonblast, and Focus Blast / Flamethrower / Thunderbolt / Thunder, with 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD, Bold Nature. All the reasoning for the set is on the official site in the strategy dex, go ahead and take a look for yourself.

:ss/landorus-therian:

As for Landorus, the current sets run 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe to maximize speed with scarf. The need for 12 Def has become obsolete, as any meta specific set does with time.

Not much else to say, enjoy your team.
