SS OU Bulk & Counter Strats ft. Orbeetle

The Team

Corsola-Galar @ Eviolite

Ability: Cursed Body

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

Nature: Bold

- Will-o-Wisp

- Stealth Rock

- Strength Sap

- Night Shade

Corsola-Galar is my main tank. My original strategy was investing in special defense while Strength Sap and Will-o-Wisp are strongest against physical attackers. Since physical attackers seem to be far more prominent though I decided to lean hard into Defense. Corsola also functions as my hazzard setter with Stealth Rock. Together with Will-o-Wisp this leads to great chip damage.

Grimmsnarl @ Light Clay

Ability: Prankster

EVs: 252 HP / 248 Def / 8 Spe

Nature: Impish

- Reflect

- Light Screen

- Thunder Wave

- Spirit Break

After realising that Corsola won't be able to defend properly against Dragapult and Hydreigon I decided to add Grimmsnarl as my switch-in against these Pokémon. Besides this I decided to run a Screen build to further increase the bulkiness of this team. I like having Taunt in there to counter Tanks like Corsola but I'm wondering if Thunder Wave might be better.

Orbeetle @ Leftovers

Ability: Frisk

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA

Nature: Bold

- Calm Mind

- Stored Power

- Bug Buzz

- Recover

Orbeetle is one of my favorite set-up Pokémon in the game and I prefer saving this one for the end. It’s important to get rid of threats before going for Orbeetle to make sure it can survive the set-up and not be forced to switch-out halfway. I used to run Iron Defense as well but decided to scrap this for Bug Buzz after the final Pokémon of the match being my Orbeetle and the Opponent’s Umbreon. Because Orbeetle functions as a clean-up crew of sorts I had to prepare for the pesky immunity Dark-types have against Stored Power.

Weezing-Galar @ Black Sludge

Ability: Levitate

EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD

Nature: Calm

- Will-o-Wisp

- Strange Steam

- Pain Split

- Aromatherapy

Weezing has a couple of uses in the team. Obviously his Levitate makes him a perfect switch-in against ground-type attacks. Aromatherapy is a very useful skill and after seeing how Paralysis can halt my team immensly really wanted this move on my team. Furthermore his Pain Split ability is perfect for this bulky chip team.

Dragapult @ Choice Specs

Ability: Infiltrator

EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

Timid

- Draco Meteor

- Shadow Ball

- Flamethrower

- Thunderbolt

With the rest of the team being quite Bulky or having certain counter-strategies in mind there was still a lack of damage and type-coverage. I decided SpA Dragapult was the best fit for a Sweeper for this team. Dragapult ends-up being my go-to Dynamax to blast through opponents leaving the enemy with a small assortment of choices that often have trouble with the rest of my team.

Ditto @ Choice Scarf

Ability: Imposter

EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def

Impish

- Transform

Ditto is what Ditto is. A counterpick. Every team has some things they’re not properly prepared for. I added Ditto to the team mostly to handle situations I don’t know how to handle properly with the rest of my team. Obviously Ditto is also has the standard uses we all know all to well.

I’m missing Rapid Spin on this team but I don’t know which mon to axe to make space for it. You might say “obviously Orbeetle” but I just love this mon. I know he’s not the strongest part of the team but it’s a strategy that can win some matches completely on it’s own. I like having Orbeetle on the team and would love to hear if you have ideas to improve the team that don’t involve removing it.

(obviously you can still tell me that you think I should remove Orbeetle for something else, I’ll just be less interested in it)

Hey James, I would say taunt is better then twave but considering your mons are pretty slow you need the speed check. So take twave. Also since your team lacks hard hitters, maybe switch out ditto for excadrill as hes covers weezing and grimmsnarl steel type weakness.

Maybe try this set with rock tomb as it 100% reduces speed.

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin
- Rock Tomb

Lastly with that grimmsnarl set you should run max HP and with some bulk and speed.

Thanks for the tip, right now Ditto is actually doing very well for me but I'll be sure to try. Excadrill is exactly the mon I thought I needed but I expected Weezing or Grimmsnarl to be the ones people would advice to remove for it (besides Orbeetle).

Thanks for the feedback on Grimmsnarl. It's nice to see that you agree that Taunt is generally better but your point for wave being better in this particular team makes sense.

The almighty b o n k (dracovish) would eat this alive, once grimmsnarl goes down, water immunity is a must, consider seismitoad
Do you agree with Iced-Bananas, switching out ditto for Excadrill? If so which Pokémon would you remove for Seismitoad (or something else that will do well against Draco "why am I not uber" vish?

If grimmsnarl gets a t-wave off on vish, it becomes much easier to handle.
I would replace corsola, as you already have a wisper in weezing. Toad gets up rocks the same and can even run scald if you want double burn. But if don't care for rocks and really want to strength sap, then jellicent is for you.
