I've been trying to make a team involving Gengar and I just can't find a mon that fills like it solidly fits that last slot. I am relatively new to teambuilding and just can't seem to understand what my teams missing.
Gengar @ Choice Specs
Ability: Cursed Body
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shadow Ball
- Psychic
- Sludge Wave
- Dazzling Gleam
The man himself. I chose specs and it seems to be able to effectively take out many of the threats in OU or is able to hit them highly. The tera fairy is to guarantee OHKO on walking wake on sun teams - which seems to be something that my team struggles into without.
Kingambit @ Black Glasses
Ability: Supreme Overlord
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 200 HP / 252 Atk / 56 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Kowtow Cleave
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
Next is gambit. Is a top meta threat that is always great to have on teams and seems to effectively deal with mons that gengar can't effectively breakthrough. Tera ghost for that immunity to fighting.
Corviknight @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Defog
- Roost
- Iron Defense
- Body Press
A team member I'm not as certain about but seems to get the job done. Is what I use to remove hazards which can cause problems for the team. Iron defence body press allows it to stop a lot of threats in the tier that like to set up like DD dragonite or opposing gambits.
Garganacl @ Leftovers
Ability: Purifying Salt
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 52 Def / 204 SpD
Careful Nature
- Protect
- Salt Cure
- Recover
- Stealth Rock
Next is garg which seems to be a great member of the team. Helps to also wall threats and with tera fairy can effectively dismantle many mons whilst being very hard to get rid of. A set I took from the cure team that was also posted on here. Used to set up hazards for the team which can see to gengar cleaning up.
Raging Bolt @ Booster Energy
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 20 Atk
- Thunderclap
- Thunderbolt
- Draco Meteor
- Calm Mind
This is a mon I am not as sure of in its place of the team (alongside the next mon). Very strong and a top threat but does not seem to have cohesion with the team where threats that it appears to deal with are able to be dealt with by other members on the team.
Kyurem @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Ice Beam
- Freeze-Dry
- Earth Power
- Substitute
Arguably the least certain of its presence on the team. I put it on the team to deal with mons that the team seemed to struggle with - particularly gliscor. I would really appreciate any criticism and help with the team as someone trying to get into the game. I have fun using teams that I see in youtube videos but I would like to learn how to build teams for myself so any help is appreciated.
