- Stone Edge
[SET COMMENTS]
Entei fulfills the role of a powerful sweeper, using its high Attack in tandem with Choice Band and an Intimidate and Fake Out immunity to become a powerful offensive threat that can easily weaken or clean up teams with Extreme Speed and Sacred Fire. Flare Blitz can be used as a more powerful and accurate alternative to Sacred Fire, allowing Entei to OHKO Calyrex-I and defensive Flutter Mane. Its coverage includes Stomping Tantrum, which can help it hit Incineroar and Tera Fire Pokemon such as Calyrex-I whilst additionally allowing Entei to hit Electric-types such as Miraidon for heavy damage, and Stone Edge, which is used for hitting Flying-types such as Pelipper and threatening Fire-types, namely the Ground-neutral Ogerpon-H, whilst being naturally stronger then Stomping Tantrum. Choice Band bolsters Entei's physical power significantly, guaranteeing an OHKO on Calyrex-I with Sacred Fire in tandem with Chien-Pao's Sword of Ruin and giving Extreme Speed a high chance to OHKO defensively invested Chi-Yu when bolstered by Sword of Ruin and Tera Normal. The HP and Special Defense investment allows Entei to play more flexibly against special attackers, increasing its ability to take on the likes of Calyrex-S, most notably allowing it to always survive Astral Barrage from Choice Specs Calyrex-S and Electro Drift from Choice Specs Miraidon out of Electric Terrain. However, running maximum Attack investment allows Entei to maximize its damage output without hindering its natural bulk significantly. Tera Normal boosts Entei's Extreme Speed significantly, allowing it to pick up OHKOs on Tornadus and Landorus-I with Sword of Ruin and 2HKOs on Urshifu-R and Kyogre whilst providing defensive utility in removing Entei's weaknesses to Water-, Ground-, and Rock-type attacks, namely Surging Strikes from Urshifu-R, Earth Power from Landorus-I, and Ivy Cudgel from Ogerpon-C, and notably allowing it an immunity to Astral Barrage from Calyrex-S.
Entei, whilst being a powerful offensive threat, does struggle with many metagame threats, namely powerful Water-types in Urshifu-R and Kyogre, which can tank Entei's attacks easily and KO back; Raging Bolt, which can easily survive the majority of its moves and threaten back with heavy damage; and Landorus, which can threaten it with Ground-type STAB moves whilst utilizing Tera Ghost to avoid Extreme Speed. Additionally, Entei can struggle with being locked into moves by Choice Band, so foes like Incineroar and Pelipper and faster offensive Pokemon like Miraidon can take advantage of it being locked into its Fire-type STAB moves, whilst Ghost-types such as Calyrex-S can benefit if Entei locks into Extreme Speed. Additionally, Entei's reliance on a priority move for its damage output can lead to it struggling greatly against priority-blocking effects from the likes of Indeedee-F and Farigiraf. Entei partners particularly well with Chien-Pao, as it can assist Entei in wallbreaking through increasing Entei's damage output with Sword of Ruin and threaten the Ghost-types that can take advantage of Entei as well as Landorus, Miraidon, Farigiraf, and Indeedee-F, whilst Entei in turn threatens Chien-Pao's counters, namely Chi-Yu. Other great partners for Entei include Rillaboom, which provides Fake Out support for Entei whilst also providing Terrain control that can help against Miraidon and Indeedee-F, and Flutter Mane, which can control the speed of the battle and also threatens Miraidon, and both can threaten Entei's main answer in Urshifu-R. The Restricted Pokemon Entei is most commonly partnered with is Zamazenta-C, as Zamazenta-C threatens Entei's potential answers, such as Incineroar and Ogerpon-C, and Entei can chip some of its common checks, namely Landorus, whilst being able to threaten Ogerpon-H and Chi-Yu, which can assist Zamazenta-C greatly.
