(lol i accidentally posted this unfinished while waiting on approval fuck my keyboard)
BRAMBLEGHAST
stats: 55 HP / 115 Atk / 70 Def / 80 SpA / 70 SpD / 90 Spe || (Total: 480)
typing:
![Ghost-type Ghost-type](https://serebii.net/pokedex-bw/type/ghost.gif)
ability: Wind Rider / Infiltrator (HA)
relevant moves:
- Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Strength Sap
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
- Bullet Seed
- Shadow Sneak
- Phantom Force
- Leaf Storm
- Shadow Ball
- Tera Blast
new ability: Wind Rider
Provides an immunity to wind moves while also boosting Attack by one stage if hit by a wind move or if Tailwind is active.
pros:
- Access to Spikes and Rapid Spin while also being able to spinblock due to its Ghost typing, letting it compress roles and function as hazard control.
- Strength Sap serves as reliable recover while letting it handle physical attackers. It notably still retains 16 PP unlike other recovery moves this generation.
- Wind Rider gives it an immunity to relevant wind-based moves that could otherwise destroy it like Hurricane and Heat Wave while also providing a +1 Attack boost. This ability also provides a +1 attack when under Tailwind.
- Key resistances to Water, Ground, and Electric
- Pretty high Attack stat with access to Power Whip and Shadow Sneak, and has a decently good Speed stat of 90.
cons:
- Attacking movepool is quite poor. No powerful physical Ghost-type moves as the best options are Shadow Sneak and Phantom Force.
- Basically learns only Grass and Ghost moves, with very little moves from other types, most of which are not worth using.
- Typing has numerous weaknesses all to common types such as Ghost, Dark, Fire, Flying, and Ice.
- Bulk is rather poor with a low 55 HP in particular, and the Speed and bulk isn't amazing enough to pull off a SubSeed.
terastal potential:
- The best Tera types for Brambleghast are probably going to be types that exchange its common weaknesses to resistances should it run a more supportive set. If Brambleghast tries to run an offensive set maybe with Tailwind support,
- Fire Tera type turns Fire and Ice weaknesses into resistances while Brambleghast's Grass moves threaten all the types Fire is weak to and Tera Blast becoming a Fire move lets it hit other Grass-types if this is opted for. This does however give it a weakness to Stealth Rock and Brambleghast may want to run boots if it wants to try clean hazards throughout a game.
- Dark Tera type turns the Ghost and Dark weaknesses into resistances
- Steel is simply a the best singular defensive type in the game
potential sets:
hazard control
Brambleghast @ Leftovers / Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Wind Rider
Tera Type: Dark / Fire
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Strength Sap
- Power Whip
Very straightforward, set hazards up, remove opposing hazards, and heal yourself up while weakening the damage output of physical attackers. Power Whip is a decently strong Grass STAB and the best physical move available. It can threaten out Dondozo, Rotom-W, and Slowking with Power Whip but does not want to risk paralysis or burn from latter two. Dark Tera type lets it resist Knock and Ghost moves while Fire Tera type complements Grass nicely though it wants boots. Brambleghast doesn't really have much else it can do though as nearly all the Pokemon in the meta currently have some way to beat it. Other sets Brambleghast can try to run include an offensive set, but it lacks good coverage, or a SubSeed set, but it gets shut down by other Grass-types and cannot
overall:
Brambleghast has nice utility moves in Spikes, Rapid Spin, Strength Sap and Leech Seed, but its stats aren't helping it in fending off powerful Water moves from Palafin or consistently OHKOing phys def Slowbro. Its offensive movepool is also lacking in both a strong physical Ghost move and powerful coverage. This Pokemon can definitely see some use in a lower tier though it has good utility
