Draft Blissey

[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 7 onwards

**Price Range**: 3-5 points

**Overview**: Despite being the bulkiest special wall available and a valuable stall piece in many singles tiers, Blissey's limited viable options and lack of offensive pressure make it relatively easy to prepare for in a given Draft matchup. With that being said, it does encourage specific counterplay like Substitute, disruption, and mixed sets, potentially weakening foes even if it doesn't find its way off the bench. It also has a solid utility movepool, and it's one of the very few Pokemon with access to Heal Bell.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Special Wall**: Blissey's stat spread leaves little room for role creativity. It can tank special hits like none other while annoying foes with Seismic Toss and Thunder Wave. Stealth Rock allows it to deal damage after switching out, and its other support moves keep it and its teammates healthy.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: N/A

**Setup Moves**: N/A

**Utility Moves**: Seismic Toss, Stealth Rock, Thunder Wave, Soft-Boiled, Heal Bell, Healing Wish, Trick

**Coverage**: Shadow Ball, Ice Beam

Niche Moves
========
**Calm Mind**: Calm Mind prevents specially offensive Ghost-types from setting up against Shadow Ball Blissey—particularly if they're also immune to Thunder Wave. It technically enables Blissey's other coverage options as well, but the abysmal Defense and Speed make this kind of setup very unreliable.

**Charm**: Charm hinders physical setup sweepers if it's too dangerous to switch out or use Thunder Wave.

**Sing**: Sleep is a dangerous tool against certain foes, mainly those with good bulk or immunities to Blissey's other moves. If Sing misses, Blissey's absurd bulk makes it relatively easy to find a second opportunity.

Common Items
========
**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Blissey's natural bulk is plenty, so it appreciates an immunity to entry hazards that might prevent it from walling.

**Leftovers**: Passive HP recovery is great for Blissey, making Leftovers a solid go-to if entry hazards can be kept away.

**Mental Herb**: Mental Herb provides insurance against Taunt and Encore users that aim to take advantage of Blissey's passivity.

Niche Items
========
**Choice Scarf / Lagging Tail**: Trick is one of Blissey's options to prevent setup. Choice Scarf is more devastating for foes, it but makes Blissey somewhat useless until it uses Trick. Lagging Tail lets Blissey function prior to a Trick, but it doesn't stop bulky setup sweepers as well as how Choice Scarf would.

**Eject Button**: Eject Button lets Blissey punish special attackers using pivoting moves by bringing in a wallbreaker teammate.

**Red Card**: Red Card can prevent special attackers from setting up too much by forcing them to switch after Blissey tanks a hit.

Tera
========
Blissey isn't a good Tera Captain; its lopsided stats stay that way regardless of type, and it doesn't usually need extra resistances. In a pinch, it could potentially use something like Tera Fairy to resist a Fighting-type attack or Tera Dark to become immune to Stored Power.

Draft Strategy
========
Blissey grants unrivaled special bulk and some valuable support, but unfortunately, it kills momentum too much for most Draft games.

**Physical Defense**: If Blissey is to function at all, it needs a partner with good Defense like Alomomola and Corviknight so it can avoid taking the physical attacks aimed at it.

**Wallbreakers**: Frail attackers like Iron Valiant and Darkrai can hit the field more times if Blissey is around to tank hits for the team and slow games down.

**Encore**: Teammates with Encore like Iron Bundle, the Ogerpon formes, and Whimsicott can punish foes attempting to use Blissey as setup fodder. Infiltrator has similar value, though it's more niche.

Checks and Counters
========
**Disruption**: Taunt, Encore, and Trick with a Choice item lock Blissey into undesirable moves, preventing it from healing itself or pressuring foes. Its Speed makes it unlikely to act before the disruptor as well.

**Physical Attacks**: Blissey's Defense is so low that it fears many physical attacks even after investing half of its EVs into Defense. Blissey users will have to constantly be wary of physical attacks even from primarily special attackers.

**Draft Order**: Round 7 onwards

**Price Range**: 3-5 points

**Overview**: Blissey is a textbook example of a strong Pokemon that struggles in Draft. Despite being the bulkiest special wall available and a valuable stall piece in many singles tiers, its limited viable options and lack of offensive pressure make it relatively easy to prepare for in a given Draft matchup. That being said, it does encourage specific counterplay (explain a little - subs, running mixed, etc), giving it some use even if it doesn't find its way off the bench. It also has a solid utility movepool, and it's one of the very few Pokemon with access to Heal Bell in Gen 9.
