This is a team I've been working on over the past few years on and off. Obviously it is not the most competitive, but I want to try to make it as competitive as possible. The team needs to have these three mons - Nidoking, Dragonite, Blastoise, as they are my favorite pokemon and the motivation of this team. Again, I am aware that there are better options, I just want to make this work as well as it can.
So the way I can see these pokemon being used together is that Nidoking and Blastoise set up Dragonite for a sweep. Blastoise and Nidoking beat Clefable, Skarmory, Ferrothorn, Scizor, Hippowdon, Gliscor and Quagsire. Blastoise also is a solid spinner since it forces out a lot of setters.
Here are the sets:
Cetus (Blastoise) @ Blastoisinite
Ability: Rain Dish
EVs: 136HP / 252 SpA / 120 Spe
Modest Nature
- Rapid spin
- Scald
- Dark Pulse
- Ice Beam
Named after the Great Sea Monster. This is a standard Mega Blastoise set. Max Special Attack EV's to be able to do as much damage as possible. 120 Speed EV's to be able to outpace every single non offensive Heatran used. These also outpace standard rotom and have a chance to 2hko with Dark Pulse. It also outpaces lando. The rest is put into bulk for general tankishness.
Scald is just a standard for water types. I use it pretty mindlessly to fish for burns. Dark pulse kills Lati@s and Starmie, who will try to defog your hazards, as well as Gengar who will try to block your Rapid Spin. Ice beam is there for Landorus and Garchomp who always seem to compete with blastoise over the entry hazards. Rapid spin is obvious to help Dragonite out.
Cepheus (Nidoking) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Poison Jab
- Ice Beam
- Fire Blast
- Superpower
The wallbreaking nidoking name appropriately after the king of Ethiopia, Cepheus. I run a mixed set with very little SpA investment. The reason for this is that most walls weak to fire and ice moves are usually devastated by them so any more SpA is overkill. For example, Garchomp, Ferrothorn, Landorus-T, Skarmory (after sturdy) Scizor and Gliscor are all outpaced and OHKOed by either Ice Beam or Fire Blast. That right there is the bulk majority of the walls in OU. The only walls I wish were OHKOed are Zapdos and Amoonguss. Both of those are countered by others on the team. The rest is put into Attack and Speed. Poison Jab OHKO's fairy types such as Clefable, Sylveon, and Togekiss. As well as dealing critical damage to anything that doesnt resist it. Superpower over EQ was so that I could 2HKO Chansey while still killing TTar and dealing critical damage to Heatran.
Andromeda (Clefable) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Soft-Boiled
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave
The problem is the core is slow, frail and lacks reliable recovery. Clefable was added to alleviate that problem to some extent. Named after the Princess of Ethiopia, Clef is a solid sponge and pivot that can come in on multiple hits and restore itself, it can solve some speed issues by spreading paralysis, all while putting up rocks. The set is the standard smogon Support Clef set. Its there to come into special attacks such as rotom, manectric, non specs keldeo, cripple or set up rocks. I chose Twave over Calm Mind so that faster teams dont gimp me.
Corvus (Skarmory) (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Spikes
- Iron Head
- Roost
- Whirlwind
So from this point, I decided to use a Dragon, Fairy, Steel Core. So Physical Skarmory was my next pick. Named after the Crow, it is a spikes setter and a reliable answer to physical juggernauts like Scarf Lando, Mega Pinsir, Dragonite, etc. Spikes is excellent with the team since I have a spinner and not a Defog user. Iron Head is chosen as a secondary answer to fairies, should Nidoking fall. Brave Bird isnt needed since dragonite uses all grass types as set up bait.
Orion (Tyranitar) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Crunch
- Pursuit
- Superpower
- Stone Edge
In an attempt to capitalize on the entry hazards, I have added Tyranitar to hunt Lati@s one of the premier defoggers in the meta which is why he is named Orion, after the Great Hunter. I chose Scarf Tar to add some speed and revenge killing to the team. Pursuit is for the Latioses, and the Gengars. Crunch is there just in case I can't get the KO on Latios, as well as a nice cleaning attack late game. Stone Edge is obvious as it checks Mega Zard Y, Talon, and is the strongest move of the set. Finally Superpower is there to hit Keldeo, Heatran, Bisharp, etc. just in case. I have though of using ice beam to catch TankChomp or Lando on the double, but it was never really tested.
Draco (Dragonite) (M) @ Safety Goggles
Ability: Multiscale
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Roost
- Earthquake
Named after the Dragon, this is my cleaner and pseudo pivot. I needed a switch in to specs keldeo's hydro pump, which is why I run roost. Safety goggles will raise eye brows but I found that Lum Berry is usually used on spore and sleep powder, which goggles also blocks. It turns breloom and amoongus into set up bait. It also doesnt allow multiscale to be broken by sand. Eq gives coverage against diancie and heatran. And dragon claw is typical. Extremespeed is missed but I really needed roost since dragonite comes into keldeo and the grass types frequently.
There's the team. Its not perfect, but it was my take on a team that consisted of my three favorites. It does not need to be Mega Blastoise, but I feel like that is the most effective way to use Blastoise. If you guys have any other suggestions I am open to them. Again thank you in advance.
