RIP AND TEAR

It is time once again to behold the tyrannical power of Restricted Pokemon in BSS. My first venture this time around was with one of the new legendaries, Koraidon. Koraidon is one of my favorite designs introduced in Generation IX, being extremely powerful looking but also kinda cute in a way. I was pleased to find it is disgustingly powerful, and I had a lot of fun building and tuning this squad. Speaking of which, here’s the overview.

:Koraidon: :Ursaluna-bloodmoon: :Dragonite: :Chien-Pao: :flutter mane: :Ogerpon-hearthflame:

Fitting with Koraidon’s apocalyptic damage output, I went with a very fast paced squad that aimed to take full advantage of Koraidon’s sun support while making liberal use of the dragon’s strength itself. Ursaluna and Dragonite provide some semblance of a backbone, being able to sponge a hit or two and fire back, and Ogerpon and Flutter Mane are also invested somewhat in bulk. This is possible thanks to Koraidon being the team’s Choice Scarf user, outspeeding almost any possible threat. Since I ended up calling Koraidon the Big Fucking Dragon, or BFD, I decided to name the team after DOOM again.

BFD (Koraidon) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Orichalcum Pulse
Level: 50
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Collision Course
- Flare Blitz
- Outrage
- U-turn

can’t hold me down, so give me the crown!

Koraidon is one of the most disgustingly powerful Pokémon I have ever used. Dragon/Fighting is an incredible STAB combination, and having Flare Blitz with an ability that sets sun AND gives Koraidon an attack boost make it one of the most automatic “delete opponent” buttons I’ve ever seen. In the rare situation that the opponent actually has something capable of switching into Koraidon, U-turn rounds out the move selection beautifully, allowing Koraidon to get off the field and bring in a teammate to keep momentum going. Koraidon’s Speed tier of 135 is also incredibly useful. It is a perfect scarfer, outspeeding almost anything bar max Speed Flutter Mane with Protosynthesis active. This makes it not only a devastating wallbreaker, but a terrifyingly efficient revenge killer. Of course, being very powerful is expected of restricted mons, but Koraidon’s blend of power, team support and its deceptively decent bulk for such an offensively geared mon make it one of, if not the single most devastating presence I have ever built with in my career.

ASCENSION (Ursaluna-Bloodmoon) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Mind's Eye
Level: 50
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 SpA / 188 SpD / 68 Spe
Modest Nature
- Blood Moon
- Vacuum Wave
- Earth Power
- Hyper Voice

I’m the predator, you’re the prey that is hiding

Ursaluna Bloodmoon is a BSS staple at this point, being of the most vicious special attackers in the metagame. This is a very standard set that mostly aims to just spam powerful STAB attacks. Thanks to Mind’s Eye, very little can switch in to Blood Moon, and even less can do so without being terrified of Earth Power. Hyper Voice is a more spammable Normal STAB option that can be used between Blood Moons or to call out Protect from targets like Dondozo while still doing good damage if you get the read wrong. Vacuum Wave is nice priority to finish off weakened targets, especially useful since Ghost types can’t blank it because of Mind’s Eye. Tera Normal is chosen to make Blood Moon a veritable nuke and push Hyper Voice to similarly terrifying levels of power. The EV spread is quite simple too, after maximizing Special Attack, it actually does Blursa more good to invest in its Special Defense because it’s HP and Defense stats are so high to begin with, and 68 in Speed allows it to outrun up to uninvested Primarina. Ursaluna Bloodmoon is a monster, easily capable of winning certain matchups from turn 1.

THICC BOYS (Dragonite) (F) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Multiscale
Level: 50
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Extreme Speed
- Encore
- Earthquake
- Roost

bow in the presence of greatness

Shocker I know. Dragonite is still one of the absolute best pokes in BSS, only slightly tempered by the introduction of restricted Pokémon. This team opts for a bulky Encore set that aims to be a good priority revenge killer while also annoying defensive pokes like Hippowdon and Dondozo. Tera Normal boost Extreme Speed to pretty absurd levels of power for a priority attack, and Earthquake handles the Rock- and Steel-types that would otherwise wall out Espeed spam. Rocky Helmet is still my preferred item on Dragonite for its effortless punishing of physical attackers and synergy with Multiscale. There’s not really anything to be said here that I haven’t said in literally every other BSS related post I’ve made regarding Dragonite, it is incredible, and every serious team should at least consider it in my opinion.

DEPRAVITY (Chien-Pao) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Sword of Ruin
Level: 50
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Icicle Crash
- Sacred Sword
- Sucker Punch
- Crunch

you gotta be stone cold to make it in this world

Chien-Pao is a great mon in Reg G, having a great natural matchup against the top restricted in Calyrex Shadow. Of course the prominence of Tera Fairy complicates this but the ability to force a Calyrex to reveal it is in fact Tera Fairy is extremely valuable. Crunch is used on this set because otherwise Calyrex can potentially play around Sucker Punch attempts via Substitute or Encore, both of which can make the Swords Dance a bit of a liability anyway. This team isn’t exactly lacking in power to begin with, so going with a more spammable Dark STAB is preferred imo. Sacred Sword is great for getting around stuff like Stamina Archaludon and other pokes that might try to boost their Defense. Tera Ghost serves a few purposes, obviously being able to deny Extreme Speed revenge kills from opposing Dragonite is a big deal, but with the presence of Koraidon and to a lesser degree Fighting Tera Blast on Calyrex, it can give Chien-Pao a way of stopping attempted sweeps from these behemoths even if its Focus Sash isn’t intact. Its definitely not as dominant as it was in previous rulesets but make no mistake, Chien-Pao is still very capable of devastation, and it is an integral part of the team.

ABRACADAVRE (Flutter Mane) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Protosynthesis
Level: 50
Tera Type: Stellar
EVs: 116 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 132 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Shadow Ball
- Power Gem
- Perish Song

let’s live tonight like fireflies, and one by one light up the sky

Pretty much an essential on a Koraidon team, Flutter Mane is pretty easily the best non-restricted Pokemon in the Reg G metagame. Since this team has Scarf Koraidon to handle other Raidons, I opted to keep a bulkier spread for this Flutter Mane. This gives it a shot at surviving some insane hits like Choice Specs Tera Moonblast from opposing Flutter Mane. Expert Belt is chosen to bluff Specs while maintaining the ability to switch moves and still allowing Flutter to pick up KOs from some surprising HP ranges. Power Gem is taken as coverage to assist with Ho-Oh, who can otherwise cause issues for Koraidon teams. Perish Song is used in the last slot for its ability to lock down wins in last mon situations as well as disrupt Baton Pass teams and break the chain before it gets too out of hand. Since Flutter Mane already has extremely high damage output and only needs some extra kick once in a while, Tera Stellar is chosen to provide said kick in the most flexible way possible, allowing me to leverage the power boost on whatever move I might need it on in any given situation. Flutter Mane continues to be extremely versatile in its offensive presence and is able to shore up a lot of potential issues in one slot, it’s an incredible poke and a key component of this team.

ALL STAR (Ogerpon-Hearthflame) @ Hearthflame Mask
Ability: Mold Breaker
Level: 50
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 116 HP / 76 Atk / 156 Def / 4 SpD / 156 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Ivy Cudgel
- Rock Tomb
- Horn Leech
- Swords Dance

and you were my violent, most beautiful mistake

Rounding out this team is Ogerpon Hearthflame. Ogerpon is an incredible presence both offensively and defensively, being able to go head to head with a ton of big threats. Because of her high natural power in tandem with Koraidon providing sun support, I went with a bulkier EV spread for this team, allowing the Sun support and addition of Swords Dance to make up for the lower Attack investment if needed. Sun boosts Ivy Cudgel to truly absurd levels of power, being able to secure KOs against even resistant targets from shockingly high HP ranges. Horn Leech is a great secondary STAB, threatening the Water-types that would otherwise be mostly fine taking Ivy Cudgel and providing Ogerpon with a source of recovery to accentuate the bulk investment on this set. Finally, Rock Tomb is chosen for both the coverage against Ho-Oh, who can otherwise be a massive pain, and the team support utility of the Speed lowering effect. This allows Ogerpon to ensure Koraidon wins out against any other base 135 threats, and can even be used to turn the tables against otherwise faster Flutter Mane for my own. Ogerpon Hearthflame really shines with Koraidon’s support and proves herself an essential part of the team game in and game out.

And thus concludes my first Regulation G team report. I had a lot of fun with this one, and was able to take it decently far on ladder.

This year has been on the up and down so far. I lost my pet mouse recently which was quite hard for me and changing jobs has been a bit of a stressor, but I’ve remained committed to bettering my health mentally and physically, and it really has been a massive help.

I would also like to take some time to thank a lot of my friends and people who have supported me

You guys are all amazing people and make me so thankful to have the ability to do what I do here.

Lastly, thank you for reading this, if you decide to try this team out for yourself, I hope you enjoy it. I may make more Reg G team reports, I have a few more concepts I’m building on right now.

no point imo. Primarina doesn’t enjoy taking Tera flare blitz to begin with and more securely grabbing the KO on targets like Ting-Lu and stuff is way more important. You also keep Koraidon’s bulk intact with Collision Course which is far more important than the quite minimal difference 20 extra base power on neutral targets will make with something as strong as it.

Damn, just did damage calculations and realized that the standard ting-lu is not even OHKOed if running a + defense nature with collision course... I completely forgot that this is not 6v6, where switching is easier... thanks for the explanation tho! (side comment: I like adding chi-yu when I see a team with sun, but idk if that's gonna work here so I'd like to know if it can.)

What a terrible endgame from the dude in replay 2 smh...

Congrats on your team! It looks really scary for sure, I experienced it first hand :)

The only thing I would suggest is to change the HP EVs on some mons.
The 4 HP EVs on Koreidon are suboptimal since you are maximizing residual damage on it and do not get any benefit, as far as I know. 176 (your current HP stat) is divisible by 16, ensuring maximal damage from sandstorm, burn, Stealth Rocks etc. With 175 you have a perfect HP stat to minimize this residual damage. This could matter in some games, since Hippowdon is such a frequent switch-in to Koreidon.

In general it is better to have uneven HP stats on almost every mon for slight more advantageous residual damage percentages, an HP point more after Ruination etc. You'll see this principle applied in almost all top teams, like in last season's no. 9 team with basically the same Dragonite (https://mega-salamance.hatenablog.com/entry/2024/05/01/134339 - one of many examples). So this might be worth changing on Ursaluna, Ogerpon and Dragonite.

Sorry if for being an annoying nerd about this, but imo these are little optimisations that are pretty effortless to apply when doing EV spreads and they can help out in some cases. Also feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about any of this, I'm also eager to learn.

Still, like I said, really cool team overall!

No I love optimizations like this, thank you! I never realized I had a bad recoil number bc Koraidon ends games so quickly but that’s a really good catch!

I’ll definitely be fixing Koraidon but the point of the HP invest in Dnite and Pon might stay the same because the point is moreso to maximize their staying power outside of any kind of residual damage, since they can just heal it off usually. I’ll definitely run some more calcs tho to see if those can be tuned further.
