Beheeyem

Spr_5b_606.png

Beheeyem is a Psychic type Pokémon introduced in Gen V. He is a moderately bulky Psychic who is exceptionally slow however hits like a truck with 125 SpA.

Stats:
HP 75
Atk 75
Def 75
SpA 125
SpD 95
Spe 40

It's stats basically determine the EVs. SpA and HP are maximised and the only question left is whether Spe should be reduced to a minimum for a Trick Room set or left.

It's stats are a lesser echo of Reuniclus’ however it lacks Magic Guard which is one of Reuniclus’ defining features and instead is cursed with a choice between Synchronise and Telepathy. Synchronise is always preferred in singles as it has an effect that activates. It's DW ability is Analytic which combined with its sky high special attack and low speed will allow it to hit even harder with an additional 1.3X boost to its attacks.

It possesses enough attacking options to form a set though its STAB is not particularly useful in the current metagame hitting few Pokémon other than Sawk, Garbodor and Haunter SE.

Its supporting movepool contains Toxic, Thunder Wave, dual screens, and Trick Room.

Trick Room
Beheeyem @ Leftovers / Life Orb
Synchronise
252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Quiet (+SpA, -Spe)
0 Spe IVs
-Trick Room
-Nasty Plot / Recover
-Psychic / Psyshock
-Thunderbolt / Energy Ball

The most common set encountered it often runs 3 attacks with Psychic/Thunderbolt/Energy Ball. Rarely runs Shadow Ball. Acts as a good counter to the birds if Trick Room is up as it can OHKO with Thunderbolt.

Nasty Plotter
Beheeyem @ Leftovers
Synchronise
252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest (+SpA, -Atk)
-Nasty Plot / Calm Mind
-Recover
-Psychic / Psyshock
-Thunderbolt / HP Fighting / Energy Ball / Shadow Ball

Generally a bad idea. Rarely survives long enough to boost and lacks Reuniclus’ bulk that allows it to work in OU. Nasty Plot vs. Calm Mind is a power versus survivability choice. Charge Beam is an option for slower boosting but more damage while boosting. Calm Mind can run a Bold (+Def, -Atk) 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD for more bulky but 75/75/95 defences will still be sweep by some of the heavy hitters in the tier.

Jolly Swellow still gets a 2HKO on the Bold variant with a Guts Facade doing 62.71%- 74.01%. Duosion is generally better because of Eviolite and Magic Guard.

(DW) All Out Attacker
Beheeyem @ Life Orb
Analytic
252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest
-Psychic / Psyshock
-Energy Ball
-HP Fighting
-Thunderbolt
While unreleased and not particularly useful Beheeyem deals immense damage with a 1.69X boost from LO and Analytic. This hits harder than Mewtwo with a LO and Psychic. But you're slow as crap.

So discuss. Is Beheeyem a good Trick Roomer? Does its shallow move pool have enough depth for it to function in the current NU metagame? Can it differentiate itself from Duosion without Magic Guard?

Once analytic is released, im gonna have some fun with a tankish set. but until then, i wouldnt touch this poke with a 10 foot pole.

I use Beheeyem like a mix between Tinkerbell Celebi and Hypno. It has more power than Hypno, but is slightly less bulky.

Beheeyem @ Leftovers
Trait: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Thunder Wave
- Recover
- Psychic
- Hidden Power [Bug]

Come in on a special attacker, slow them down, recover it off (while maybe getting a little parahax~), kill them. Uninvested, Beheeyem sports a rather nice 287 special attack stat. That's enough to at least do some damage. Hidden Power Bug to have a shot at beating other psychics in NU.

It's a cool poke.

Aliens.

Beheeyem faces stiff competition from Duosion, but it's perks over the green blob is basically nasty plot and the ability to hold an item other than eviolite and not be freakishly frail. You would be best off running the Nasty plot + Trick room set in your OP. Absol is pretty much public enemy number 1. Most likely ohko'ing you with sucker punch as well as negating Trick Room's effect.

This. A bulky choice specs set or a tankish set would work wonders in and out of trick room. Its movepool gives it just enough coverage for it to be efficient.

The Trick Room set is actually a good set and works well on Trick Room teams with a sort of similar niche to Reuniclus. (Sorry about bringing him up but he is basically the poster boy for Gen V. Slower, and bulkier.) Or probably more relevant Exeggutor.
Exeggutor has Sleep Powder which lets it Trick Room easier and continue a Trick Room from the end as well as Explosion which lets get another Pokemon in easily. Beheeyem lacks these options and doesn't even have Volt Switch or U-Turn to allow it deal damage while getting another Pokemon in.
4 main factors keep him from being as defining a feature in this metagame as compared to Reuniclus in NU.
Firstly he lacks Reuniclus' excellent bulk and instead is only moderately bulky. This really has to do with the fact that even down here Pokemon hit a lot harder but all the excellent walls are gone, magnifying his lack of bulk even more.
Secondly he lacks Magic Guard which makes him vulnerable to status and means LO takes away from his survivability.
Third Absol is down here. Trick Room doesn't mean much when your main counter's claim to fame is a SE Priority attack.
Lastly he lacks an effective Fighting type move. While the big green blob in OU manages to run two attack sets fairly effectively he has Focus Blast which while people may laugh at simply has the power to hit decently hard. 2x SE HP Fighting only has 5 more BP than STAB Psychic. It also requires to run less than perfect EVs.

The NU metagame isn't particularly generous to Beheeyem at the moment due to the prevalence of fast attackers including Absol and Cacturne (With priority) who destroy it.

Its main niche is Recover but in a tier filled with heavy hitters who only need a second to tear your team apart and 75/75/95 defensive stats don't let you take the slow and steady option of Calm Mind.

With Analytic and Grey it will probably obtain a niche but for now its not a lot better at what it does than a lot of other Pokemon and sadly for it means it can't really distinguish itself from other options. However a serious problem for it is that even when Analytic is released it won't function under Trick Room.
Visually interesting.
In this metagame?
Not terrible but a lot of counters and it has some difficulty distinguishing itself.

beheeyem is all well and good, but the only thing it has going for it is NP+TR imo, which is still cockblocked by the ever-so-common Cacturne unless you choose to run the otherwise-less-appealing HP Buggin', and even then you gotta play really carefully to dance around that Sucker Punch :/ It's a shame too, cuz he has a lot of potential. Even a support set faces mad competition with Grumpig, who has Thick Fat to better wall Magmortar and Jynx +Wish and Heal Bell to make it a better "team player". Notwithstanding, I've ran him in TR teams with such like Gurdurr and stuff to keep Cacturne/Absol warded off, and he can easily pull off a sweep under certain circumstances, especially since the metagame is incredibly offensively oriented nowadays. Quaggy is still a butt though :/
