Banned PETA commercial.

For all those who don't know, NBC banned PETA from displaying this commercial during the Super Bowl.

Quite frankly, I am disturbed that PETA needs to revert to such tactics to get people to follow its policies. I personally believe that it shows how desperate PETA is at trying to get members, or simply people following its views. Besides the fact that their statements aren't backed up by scientific data, so whatever.

The point of that commercial was for it to be banned and for people to be interested in it, watch it, and discuss it and exploud for no reason like what will happen in this thread.

This commercial is also pretty tame, not nearly as bad as the one where they had a girl strip during a speech so by the end she was fully naked.

I can't help but think that this is in fact what they intended. In the early 20th century, information noting that a product was "banned in Boston" could often boost sales; the same idea could apply here. It gets publicity for being banned and generates discussion, while it may have just been ignored if it hadn't been banned.

Correlation =/= causation.

I would postulate that to afford a well supplemented vegetarian diet, vegetarians must be, on average, wealthier than meat eaters. I would also postulate that vegetarians are healthier than meat eaters due to their necessary awareness of dietary requirements. Given their limited intake of saturated fats and careful regimen, we can extend that vegetarians are likely to be slim; and ergo more attractive by modern standards.

Now, if you changed the advertisement line to "wealthy, healthy, attractive people have better sex", nobody would be surprised. However, it does not quite have the impact that PETA is aiming for.

This commercial was just retarded! I'm SO glad it didn't get to air in the super bowl!

Posting this youtube comment before it gets lost in a sea of youtubers:
Thank you for posting that. What a shame if it had been never been appreciated for its comedic value.

McGraw, that tends to be the error with such messages as these but very few people seem to realise it.
This is not the first advert to use a statistic with misleading implications.

As I understand it (based on non-scientific observation, more based on information the opposite sex has shared with me) Vegetarian's are somewhat different when it comes to kissing feel - there is less of the "slimy" feel with a Vegetarian.

Interpret that as you will.

To go off on the "bad stats" tangent, my favorite comes from the automobile insurance commercials. "Customers save an average of $350 by switching!" Well no shit, Sherlock, nobody's going to go through the hassle of switching insurance providers if they're not getting a better deal.

I often wonder how many vegetarian (good) olympians there are. not many is my guess.

but the whole: "they didn't actually want it to be aired" thing is entirely correct.

Not sure about Olympians, but Dave Scott won 6 Iron Man championships as a Vegetarian (before Triathlon was added to the Olympics).

Just a small list I picked up elsewhere - can't really be arsed verifying this but eh..

Joe Namath, Football Player
Lawrence Phillips, Football Player (49ers)

Sally Eastall, Marathon Runner
Andreas Cahling, Mr. International Bodybuilder
Carl Lewis, Olympic Track Star
Edwin Moses, Olympic Champion
Leroy Burrell, Olympic Champion

The whole concept of the ad is pretty bullshit anyway. Would anyone seriously watch that and think it makes sense? No brain is that hypnotized by something hot and sexy.

Once again PETA sells sex - specifically female sex - and puts out a bit of shit objectifying women.. in favour of vegetarianism. Because, you know, animal rights are more important than womens.

Lol. PETA has taken things to a new level. I wonder what the corporate heads are thinking in their office:

Head 1: Let's make chicks play with carrots! That'll show them!
Heads 3,4,5,6: Yeah!
Head 2: Wait, I thought we were trying to get people to stop killing animals...
Heads 1,3,4,5,6: *stare down Head 2 until he explouds (lol)*

Once again, PETA makes a fuckery of themselves to the facepalming of me. First Sea Kittens, now this?

Next thing you know they'll start harrassing Pizza Hut for their meat pizzas, calling then 'Pizza Smut' or some shit like that.

When I'm in a trolling mood, I'll write a banworthy letter to their incompetent head asking him to fire their PR officer and to get back to what they were like 10 years ago, a respectable charity instead of a fucking electronic mafia.

When I first saw this, I shook my head in shock that PETA went to this level.

Then I remembered the Sea Kittens... And laughed so hard that PETA, who I've never liked in the first place, thought this would actually get people to stop eating meat.

They do tend to show women as overly sexual, like Akuchi said... But then again, those women did decide themselves to be in the commercial. Even if I looked like that I wouldn't be in anything like that myself but I won't stop others if they really want to.

Chances are a suitable PETA advert woud be your avvie sans the clothing Diana.

Jesus, PETA never ceases to fail. SOmeone should just put a thread related to PETA in Trou so we may all laugh at it.

o__O Okay, that would be an odd mix of Pokemon and vegetarianism.

PETA has been at this for a while sadly, but don't throw it out in Trou. Trou is possibly more dignified...

Which does make me wonder. "What were they thinking?"

I defend the right of the women to do so; but just because women appear in it does not mean it is not misogynistic (an extreme example would be rape porn played out by consenting actors, a less extreme example would be, say, a newspaper columnist telling women they need to stop trying for careers and should confine themselves to the kitchen). Unfortunately PETA is well-known to the feminist community for this sort of thing, they just won't stop doing it.
