  • Enormous mixed bulk and good defensive typing allow it to wall a wide range of dangerous offensive threats
  • Very versatile, can perform a huge variety of defensive roles
  • Weaknesses to common offensive types, namely Dark, Fairy, Ghost, and Ice means that it can struggle to wall some common Pokemon

Moves
========

  • Recover is imperative to keep Giratina healthy throughout the match and allow it to reliably counter things
  • Wish is an alternative that allows Giratina to keep its teammates healthy too, but it forces you to run Spiky Shield, which opponents can take advantage of
  • Will-o-Wisp is great for spreading burns around opposing teams, and allows Giratina to wear down many of its switchins
  • Knock Off cripples Pokemon like Mega Gengar and some variants of Protean Mega Mewtwo Y which rely on Plate Judgment
  • Also removes other items
  • Although it requires some prediction, Metal Burst can do tons of damage thanks to Giratina's huge HP stat
  • Giratina can live a hit from Aerilate Mega Rayquaza, Mega Gengar, Mega Tyranitar and OHKO them in return with Metal Burst
  • U-turn or Parting Shot can be used to give a free switch into one of Giratina's teammates, or to gain momentum on a predicted switch
  • Topsy-Turvy punishes opponents who try to set up on Giratina
  • Dragon Tail also deals with set-up, and can be used to rack up hazard damage
  • Spiky Shield should be used with Wish
  • Also lets Giratina activate Toxic Orb safely, and can be used for a free 12.5% recovery, although this can be taken advantage of

Set Details
========
  • Special Defense investment lets Giratina survive Protean Spooky Plate Judgment from Mega Mewtwo Y
  • The rest goes into Defense to more easily take on Pokemon like Primal Groudon and Mega Mewtwo X
  • 0 IV's and -Speed nature let it underspeed most of the tier, so as to ensure it can give a safe switch into a teammate with U-turn or Parting Shot

I need some help deciding on which sets deserve a full write-up, I feel like the 6 I have might be a bit too many. I want to condense some of them together, but I can't figure out how to do that; Prankster, Mold Breaker, and Unaware all run different movesets, and Fur Coat uses a different EV spread, and in any case they all have different usage tips and team options. I was thinking of moving one or two to OO, but I'm not sure which ones. I might need some help deciding which moves to put on the sets, this Pokemon has so many viable options that theres no way of fitting them all without having like 10 slashes for each set.

IMO you can make prankster an OO set, maybe that's just me but I was never a huge fan of prankster tina. Also, you could put unaware and fur coat in the same set as they fill somewhat similar roles, and just mention how the EVs are different in the set details.

MAMP this is definitely tough (the toughest, in fact) but let's see if we can progress a little more in the near future

edit: post #1865, shoutout appomattox court house

if you're still looking to move a set or two to OO, I'd probably lean toward prankster and/or unaware. though tina is better for subpassing, I think aegi/regi have the better typing for prankster (easier time switching into -ates). similarly, I think dino's lack of common weaknesses makes it the better unaware user. of course the most effective user is relative to which threats need to be covered, especially given that tina has the most bulk, but I've found that tina is generally better off leaving the jobs of prankster and unaware to others.

as far as moves, moldy should definitely have sr as a primary slash in one of the open slots imo. u-turn and spore are both good options for the other opening. I think bounce will be the toughest to determine moves for, but knock off, u-turn, and defog are probably all worth noting. I lack experience with fc tina so I can't really weigh in on that one.

hope it helps!
