Azelf @ Life Orb / Expert Belt
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- U-turn
- Psychic
- Fire Blast
- Stealth Rock / Shadow Ball
Azelf is an expert at wallbreaking! Due to Azelf's expansive coverage and high Speed, it is extremely difficult to switch into. U-turn generates momentum and deals sizable chip damage to Latias, a common switch-in. Fire Blast hits Steel-types like Scizor and Magnezone super effectively, OHKOing both. Azelf is an adept Stealth Rock setter, as it forces out the most common Defogger, Scizor. On the other hand, Shadow Ball can be utilized to threaten opposing Psychic-types like Latias and Starmie more meaningfully. Life Orb is the preferred item for 2HKOing Garchomp with Psychic; however, Expert Belt is an option that keeps Azelf out of KO range of Scizor's Bullet Punch for longer. Azelf is best utilized on offensive teams that appreciate an imposing, fast pivot that gains early-game value through U-turn and Stealth Rock. Wallbreakers like Crawdaunt and Garchomp take great advantage of Azelf's U-turn and can punish Heatran and Blissey, Azelf's most consistent switch-ins. Additionally, Crawdaunt can counterlead Weavile, while Garchomp can use the momentum Azelf generates to set up. Consistent switch-ins to Weavile, Azelf's most notable offensive check, are required; offensive Scizor and Heatran are good options.
