"When I grow up, I wanna be Azelf." - BigFatMantis 2021
Azelf @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Psychic
- Knock Off
- U-turn
- Flamethrower
When not guarding Lake Valor, Azelf finds an effective niche as a fast offensive pivot in UU, offensively checking many threats like Zarude, Nihilego, Cobalion, and Thundurus-T. Its strong Psychic lets it slam Amoonguss and Conkeldurr. Knock Off removes items from its checks like Chansey, Mandibuzz, and Aegislash, crippling them for the rest of the match. U-turn lets Azelf pivot out against Slowking and Galarian Moltres, and it provides a big hit on Zarude. Flamethrower handles Steel-types like Jirachi, Aegislash, and Skarmory. Azelf fits well on teams with additional pivots like Zarude and Thundurus-T, which can bring it in against Pokemon like Skarmory and Amoonguss and pressure its checks like Slowking. Entry hazard support helps the pivot core force progress well, since Azelf removes Heavy-Duty Boots so often. Nihilego in particular handles Mandibuzz and has a good matchup against most Defoggers. Mamoswine greatly appreciates the pivot support Azelf gives, and in return, it can bust through Galarian Moltres. Aegislash pressures Chansey and Slowking heavily, and it likes Azelf crippling Celesteela and Galarian Moltres by removing their items.
