I'm all about the Eons! The problem, though, is finding a viable combo of Eeveelutions to use for competitive play. Below is the team that I've found to be most productive in Gen 6. One major theme that you need to keep in mind when playing the Eons is SYNERGY! The Eons play off each other's strengths and weaknesses. Being able to predict incoming attacks and think ahead is imperative to running an effective Eon team.
Wyt the Trickster (Vaporeon) (M) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Wish
- Haze
- Ice Beam
Vaporeon is a must have for any Eon team. He is my Hybrid Tank with 240 Def and 226 SpD. Water Absorb lets you switch into water attacks aimed at your other eons, especially Flareon. Scald gives him a decent Water type move while also providing Burn to whittle down those Steel/Poison types as you stall with Wish. Haze allows you to get rid of annoying status boosts, especially on Dragon-types running a boosted Outrage combo, Clefable's Stored Power combo, and Fighting type's boosted attacks. Ice Beam hits Dragon/Ground types hard (OHKO/2HKO), as well as being a decent atck with a 30% chance to Freeze. Sitrus Berry works well with Wish since Wish takes a turn to work, it'll heal you up if you get too low, allowing you to get off that Protect for the stall or Scald/Ice Beam for the kill/burn/freeze.
TL;DR: Hybrid Tank/Burn Staller great against Fire/Ground/Rock/Dragon/Ground types
Layta the Sage (Espeon) (F) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Dazzling Gleam
- Morning Sun
- Hidden Power [Fire]
Espeon is my powerhouse SpA Sweeper with 252 on Speed and SpAtk. A lot of Eon teams have Espeon as a support, putting up Light Screens/Reflects and Baton Passing Sword Dance boosts. However, I've found her most effective as a sweeper, especially since no one expects her to be. NEVER START ESPEON. I always switch her into a Entry Hazard/Status Attack such as Stealth Rock/Spikes/Toxic Spikes/Spore/Taunt/Toxic/etc optimizing her Magic Bounce ability. Once she's out, Focus Sash paired with the 252+ Speed boost(349 total Speed) allows her to survive long enough to get at least two attacks out. Psyshock tears through Fighting/Poison types while also providing decent damage on SpD Normal tanks since it targets the enemy's Def. Dazzling Gleam wrecks Dark types who think you'll switch out while also providing decent STAB and Dragon type coverage. Morning Sun lets you heal up when you can predict a switch out or when you can take a couple hits, allowing you make use of your Focus Sash again. Hidden Power [Fire] is the frosting on the cake. It tears through Steel/Bug/Grass/Ice types such as Ferrothorn which you will commonly switch into while also providing decent type coverage.
TL;DR: Magic Bounce Switch-in/SpA Sweeper great against Fight/Normal/Steel/Bug/Grass
Nyar the Doomsayer (Umbreon) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Swagger
- Heal Bell
- Moonlight
- Foul Play
Umbreon is my Def Tank with 252 on Hp and SpD. You can usually switch him into most attacks without worrying that he'll take too much damage (Don't switch him into Bug/Fairy/Fighting moves). Leftovers provides continuous healing. Synchronize allows you to pass back status moves such as PSN/TOX/BRN/PAR sort of like a less efficient Magic Bounce. I don't run Toxic on Umbreon since Sylveon is already running Toxic. Instead, I prefer Swagger (over Confuse Ray) because of the Atck boost. It's a little bit of a gamble, but it offers better overall type coverage and damage when paired with Foul Play. If the enemy hits himself, he takes more damage because of the Atck boost. Foul Play, also plays off of the Atck boost, doing more damage since Foul Play does damage off of the enemy's Atck stat. Heal Bell/Moonlight provide great stalling and work well together with Synchronize especially against enemy Wall Stallers.
TL;DR: SpD Tank/Swag Gambler good against Psychic/Ghost & Wall Stallers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
IVs: 30 SDef
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power (Ice)
Jolteon is my speedy SpA Sweeper with 252+ Speed/ 252 SpA boost. I usually switch him into an Electric/Ground Attack since he is immune to both thanks to Volt Absorb and Air Balloon. Jolteon is a glass cannon so you have to be very smart and careful when using him. I run him with Volt Switch and Thunderbolt. Volt Switch let's me get out some damage while switching him out for a better Eon. While Thunderbolt provides decent damage when needed plus a 10% paralysis chance. Shadowball does good overall damage to most types while also having a 20% chance to lower the enemy's SpD. For the last move, I prefer to run Hidden Power (Ice) to help OHKO or 2HKO those Dragon/Ground Types. Usually I can switch into an EQ, Air Balloon makes Jolteon immune. Then while they pop the balloon, I can get an HP Ice out and do massive damage. Once the balloon is gone, I can switch him out if the enemy is faster or I can HP Ice again for the kill.
TL;DR: SpA Sweeper good against Water/Flying/Ghost/Psychic/Dragon/Ground
Leyna the Princess (Sylveon) (F) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Cute Charm
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Calm Nature
- Draining Kiss
- Toxic
- Wish
- Protect
Sylveon is the game changer of Eon teams! She's our SpD Tank/Staller. As a Fairy type, you can switch her into Dragon moves, such as Outrage, due to her immunity. Like Vaporeon, she's running the Wish/Protect combo to stall out the enemy team. Toxic will whittle down the enemy mon while you stall em out. Draining Kiss offers decent damage against Fighting/Dragon/Dark while also healing Sylveon for 75% of damage given allowing her to stall even longer. Rocky Helmet hurts any mon that attacks Sylveon with physical attacks, while Cute Charm helps immobilize male mon to further stall out the enemy.
TL;DR: SpD Tank/Toxic Staller good against Fighting/Dragon/Dark & Physical Attackers
Nalia the Mage (Flareon) (F) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Facade
- Flame Charge
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
Flareon is by far the most underrated Eon. She is our Physical Attacker and our secret weapon. To start, I'll run Flame Charge to get Flareon that speed boost. Toxic Orb then kicks in, allowing Flareon to use the boost from Guts to put out a hard hitting Facade. Facade, as a Normal Type attack, can basically OHKO most pokemon with the Toxic Orb and Guts boosts. When you get too low, just Rest to heal right back up. Then you can use Sleep Talk to use Facade or Flame Charge against the unsuspecting enemy. Sleep usually last 3-4 turns, so you can time in another Rest or attack. Also even if you end up waking up on a Sleep Talk, Flareon's Toxic Orb will kick in, giving you that lethal Facade for your next turn. When facing a Water/Ground type, simply switch out to either Vaporeon for the Water Absorb heal or Jolteon for the Air Balloon Ground immunity.
TL;DR: Speedy Physical Attacker good against EVERYTHING except Water/Ground/Ghost/Rock
Spend time learning the ins and outs of the team. Being able to know each Eons strengths and weaknesses is imperative to predicting switch-ins and running a viably competitive team. If you play the combos well, almost half the trainers you face will forfeit on you. For starters, always look at the enemy team and see what they have more of. You can usually predict who they're gonna start and choose accordingly. If you're not sure, start either Vaporeon(Some ground/dragon types), Umbreon(0-1 fighting types), or Sylveon(0-1 Steel types).
If you have any critiques, tips, or advice, feel free to post below. Let's get discussion going, and help develop a great Eeveelution/Eon team.
