Alolan Ninetales provides both snow and support for its teammates, either granting protection with Aurora Veil or disrupting foes with Encore, enabling them to overwhelm the opposing team. Aurora Veil allows allies to set up with greater ease and protects them from retaliation. Encore can lock foes like Slowbro and Fezandipiti into setup moves like Calm Mind, healing moves like Slack Off, or other unfavorable moves, allowing Alolan Ninetales's teammates to enter the field unopposed. Snowscape can allow Alolan Ninetales to ensure the desired weather stays up in the face of other weather setters like Hippowdon and Politoed. Moonblast deals strong damage to Slither Wing and Terrakion, while Freeze-Dry can hit Water-types like Slowbro and Suicune. Icy Rock extends the window that allied Pokemon can take advantage of Alolan Ninetales's Snow Warning. While Alolan Ninetales does not want to Terastallize often, preferring for its allies to make use of it, Tera Water flips its weaknesses to Fire and Steel, allowing it to survive attacks from Entei and Jirachi. In addition, it is a great defensive type and removes Alolan Ninetales's weakness to Stealth Rock, though losing its Ice typing will result in it no longer benefitting from snow's Defense boost.
Aurora Veil Alolan Ninetales fits almost exclusively on a single archetype: snow. As such, it should be paired with the most potent user of it, Belly Drum Cetitan, which often needs the protection provided by Aurora Veil in order to set up. Other Slush Rush sweepers like Alolan Sandslash and Beartic can also take advantage of the weather. Other Pokemon that benefit from snow are potential Weather Ball users like Volcanion, Raikou, and Kilowattrel, providing a means to damage Pokemon like Cyclizar and Chesnaught more effectively. Due to the low duration of Aurora Veil, Alolan Ninetales needs to be paired with pivots that can reliably get its allies in, a role that Eject Button Slowbro and Amoonguss can excel at. Entry hazard control is important for snow teams, which can come in the form of Defog Talonflame and Noivern or Rapid Spin Cyclizar, each of which can cover Alolan Ninetales's weakness to Fire and pivot with U-turn. Alternatively, Magic Bounce Espeon or Hattrem can prevent entry hazards from being set up at all, though their frailty can make them unreliable. Aurora Veil is also a benefit for any setup sweeper, even on non-snow teams, such as Gyarados, Salamence, and Armarouge.
