[OVERVIEW]
Archeops is a very threatening Pokemon in the PU tier thanks to its fantastic offensive stats, vivid movepool, and great Speed tier. Earthquake and Stone Edge give Archeops near-perfect coverage that leaves its switch-ins restricted to a marginal few, such as Claydol, Palossand, and Regirock. Archeops also has a decent defensive typing, allowing it to check foes like Scyther in a pinch; however, it is held back by its poor defensive stats. It doesn't want to be the sole defensive switch-in to any foe, as it struggles to even take hits from offensive variants of Talonflame well. Defeatist is a dreadful ability that basically makes Archeops useless if it drops below 50%, further hindering its ability to hard switch into foes like Scyther well and making it very dependent on both Heavy-Duty Boots and Roost.

[SET COMMENTS]
Stone Edge alongside Earthquake is only resisted by a few Pokemon, such as Claydol and Virizion; however, bulkier Pokemon like Palossand can still take neutral hits well from Archeops, which is why U-turn is the preferred option in the third slot to generate momentum against these foes. Dual Wingbeat is an option that lets you OHKO Virizion and revenge kill other Grass- and Fighting-types, like Tsareena and Gallade, more reliably. Roost is necessary to offset HP loss that activates Defeatist. Heavy-Duty Boots is another important tool that prevents Archeops's Stealth Rock weakness from wearing it down into Defeatist range.
Archeops fits best on offensive teams, and it should primarily be brought in via safe switches in to wallbreak or revenge kill threats such as Heliolisk and Magmortar, as its lack of defensive utility prevents it from getting many free turns otherwise. For this reason, partners with pivoting moves like Heliolisk, Whimsicott, and Xatu work well with Archeops, and they form a pivot core if Archeops is using U-turn. Lanturn is another partner that can bring Archeops in safely, and it can absorb both Water- and Electric-type attacks aimed at Archeops as well as provide an additional check to Talonflame. If Archeops isn't running Dual Wingbeat, then partners like Xatu and Weezing can help check Virizion. Froslass can help pressure many of Archeops's checks, like Palossand and Rhydon. Spikes support from Froslass is also appreciated to wear down these Pokemon, notably bringing walls like Jellicent into 2HKO range of Stone Edge. Faster Pokemon like Sneasel and Choice Specs Ribombee are problematic foes for Archeops, as they are faster and threaten to KO it, so Silvally-Steel and Choice Scarf Passimian can help pressure them.

[SET COMMENTS]
Archeops is a good Stealth Rock setter on hyper offense teams. Its high Speed tier lets it block opposing entry hazard setters with Taunt, and it can KO itself with Head Smash to bring a teammate in safely and prevent Rapid Spin and Defog from removing its hazards. Archeops also has a good matchup against Xatu, which can't risk switching into Archeops to prevent Stealth Rock from being set up via Magic Bounce. Focus Sash ensures that it can almost always set Stealth Rock; however, once it is brought into Defeatist range, there isn't too much value in preserving Archeops.
Archeops can pretty much support every offensive threat in the tier, and it should almost always be the lead on the hyper offense teams it is used on. Braviary is a fantastic partner alongside Archeops, as it is the best Defog deterrent on hyper offense teams and values Stealth Rock support wearing down checks like Rotom and Regirock. Nasty Plot Mesprit and Swords Dance Silvally-Fairy are other offensive threats that appreciate the support Archeops provides. Offensive checks to Sneasel are helpful because it can prevent Stealth Rock from being set with Triple Axel, assuming it lands two hits, so Talonflame and Silvally-Steel are appreciated. They can also bring Archeops in safely with U-turn to find opportunities to set Stealth Rock if it was unable to earlier on.
