Arcanine - Help with Moveset

Let me just start off by saying that I have been a drifter to this site. I am a regular of GameFAQs, but I come here often to get ideas on EV spreads. But, I'm stuck on drafting an Arcanine moveset. I have it pretty much down, but I'm having trouble on the last move.

Arcanine@Leftovers
Adament, 4 HP, 252 ATK, 252 SPD
-Extremespeed
-Flare Blitz
-Howl

Here are the best options I have for the fourth move:
-Crunch/Iron Tail/Will-o-wisp/Thunder Fang/Reversal

Other options:
Aerial Ace/Roar/Dig

Crunch OHKOs Gengar and Alakazam, Thunder Fang OHKOs Gyarados. Iron Tail is for Rock types, which Arcanine can't hit ATM. Will-o-wisp just because. Reversal just because.

What would be the best option for Arcanine?

"Crunch OHKOs Gengar and Alakazam" < and so would Flare Blitz. I'd argue if Crunch was worth the move-slot. Personally I'd stick with Thunder Fang to get a solid hit on water types (like the aforementioned Gyarados).

Yeah, I was leaning towards either Thunder Fang or Iron Tail. Iron Tail kinda sucks though...75 accuracy for base 100 kinda blows. It really sucks against rock type pokemon though, which might see an increase with the release of stealth rock.

Yeah, but that's all Iron tail is 'good' at getting. You're better off just using another poke for rocks, and give him thunder fang. Also note that more then just rock types can use stealth rock.

Arcanine is one of those Pokemon that really needs a boost in Movepool. It could have at least got Superpower/Close Combat for the Rocks that plague it, and of course a better Electric move...Anyway, my stand is to CB it. It'll be in-and-out every other turn anyway, and both of it's traits are easy switchin.@LeftoversAdamant nature 4 HP/252 Atk/252 SpdFlare BlitzThunder FangDouble EdgeExtremespeed

Arcanine learns both Endure and Reversal, as well as Extremespeed. I think it would be interesting to use those and Crunch in a novelty moveset to surprise people who think they can just switch in a Rock pokemon like Rhyperior and setup on it.

Also, I think people should consider the special sets as well, since it can easily boost it's special attack nicely with either Groudon or packing Sunny Day.

Sunny Day, Solar Beam, Overheat, and Crunch seems to be pretty nice coverage to me, with the bonus of threatening those Water types with both reduced damage and SE Grass (Swampert would not approve). The trick would be to get that Sunny Day in with the TTar craze in full swing.

I really hate ThunderFang. Flare Blitz will outdamage it against a water type in the sunlight, and that's just sad. Gyarados is the extent of its use IMO, though not that that's a bad reason to use it. Crunch is pretty worthless as well. SE its still weaker than Flare Blitz, though no recoil is nice. I'm still trying to figure out why he can't get Earthquake. In general, they need to do something for the "physical beasts". There's a reason Entei, Arcanine, Flareon, and Luxray aren't popular, and its certainly not their appearance or stats.

Personally, my Arcanine went the special route. At just 10 base lower, his special attack is nothing to laugh at. Flamethrower is a pretty powerful move, and the lack of recoil is nice. Put up the sun and its extremely powerful and having it up all the time gives you access to Solarbeam. The only downside is how badly T-tar ruins this, which is why you need to have Sunny Day running all the time rather than right before Solarbeam. I'm thinking of trying it with the Hot Rock, but most of this is just theory. For a 4th move, Dragon Pulse gives you the Dragon/Fire combo that can't be resisted, but ExtremeSpeed is still a great tool to have in your set, even if it won't be doing much more than finishing off weakened Pokes.

Of course, that's really the problem with Arcanine. Its not that he lacks options, its that his options just don't work together very well.

I always felt bad for Arcanine. First, he looks cool. He has a great ability. And, not alot of people realize this, but he has the highest base stat total of ANY non-legendary non-600 club pokemon in the game. There's the 600ers, the 580 trios, then no other pokemon until poor Arcanine at 555. So why's he not used more often? Weak to one of the most common attacks, not a great movepool.

Why not go for a novelty moveset?

He can learn Endure/Reversal. Overheat gives great coverage with Reversal, and being special helps alot too. Agility is great for the fourth move, with Leichi berry that gives you the speed and att you'll need... being surprising doesn't faze people with the right counters, though.

At least Arcanine got Flare Blitz. Entei and Flareon are begging for this move (and I hope they get it somehow, they're cool Fire Pokemon).

Arcanine @ Leftovers, Intimidate Ability
Modest Nature, 252 spd, 252 sp. atk, 4 HP
Sunny Day
Will-o-Wisp
Fire Blast
Solar Beam

Swampert killer, lol.

Arcanine needs more love.

Arkanine...Ah, I remember doing his movesets. My suggestion would be to put Crunch on him and get Ice Fang on him as well for guards against the dragons, since you are obviously going for Physical

Flare Blitz does more to Heracross than Aerial Ace:

180x2=360.

60x4= 240.

Try this set:

Item: @ Choice Band/Adherance Scarf

Evs: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP

Nature: (Jolly/Adament)

Ice Fang
Extreme Speed/Return
Flare Blitz
Over Heat

These sound appropriate. Switch him in on a fire Attack (with Flash Fire), and Flare Blitz away at 270 Base Power.

Return can go over Extreme Speed if you have Adherance Scarf.

Item corresponds with Nature.
