New Ability

Tangling Hair: Contact with the Pokemon lowers the attacker's Speed stat.

Dugtrio also gets a minor (+20) buff to Attack.

I f it weren't for the loss of Arena Trap I'd call this an improvement, but it looks like the Three Stooges will simply be a faster, weaker low-tiers Excadrill... which isn't too bad I suppose. Solid RU or maybe UU.

I was hoping for it to be Ground/Fairy but Ground/Steel makes it way easier to switch in with all those resistances. Its still very frail though. Its not horrible but it isnt notable either except that hair. It is still pretty fast and isnt outclassed outside of sandstorm so theres that but thats about it

Dollar Tree Excadrill. Losing Arena Trap is bad enough, but Game Freak thought A-Duggy was too fast so they nerf it's base speed to 110 and gave it an incredibly irrelevant bulk buff that does very little for A-Dugtrio since it still has that notorious wet cardboard bulk Duggy is known for. Ground/Steel may be better defensively in general, though Duggy still isn't taking jack shit when it comes to hits. Sticking to regular Dugtrio.

Another wasted Alolan Mon.

Sad that it doesn't have Arena Trap but could Alolan Dugtrio be an effective Sand sweeper/wallbreaker? It gets buffed 100 Attack stat, 110 Speed, and Sand Force (130BP Earthquake + 104BP Iron Head).

This is a slower steel type Dugtrio without Area Trap? Is this even worth running in NU?

Edit: I guess with the buff Atk stat, it can still function as an overall scarfless revenge killer.

The Attack of regular Dugtrio has apparently been buffed to 100, too, so it would outclass Alolan Dugtrio even without factoring in Arena Trap (unless you need STAB Ironhead that badly).

I mean depending on how you use this, it may have a niche. No it cant Arena Trap Revenge Kill but it can work as a Revenge Killer with Pursuit.

Alolan Dugtrio @ Focus Sash
Ability: Tangling Hair
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly / Adamant Nature
-Pursuit
-Sucker Punch
-Earthquake
-Iron Head

Pursuit something weakened that it's faster than for the kill. Attack the replacement. It can lower the attackers speed if they go for a physical contact move. Activate focus sash. Throw out one final attack. At the very least Dugtrio will get 1 Pursuit KO, 2-3 extra attacks (maybe another KO if next two hits do it) and possibly a speed decrease or two depending on the enemy team.

By no means the best out there but it may see some use. I'm wondering how much the Tangling Hair will activate or if people end up switching in on a predicted physical attack from a sweeper to lower its speed and kill off with Focus Sash + Earthquake/Iron Head. I'm not to sure at what tier but I'll let you guys decide that.

Ground/STEEL? What's that hair made of? (EDIT: Oh, a volcanic glass called Pele's Hair, that's kind of clever) Anyway the only change between normal and Alolan (aside the +20 both got to Attack which is nice) is taking 10 from Speed and putting it to Defense which only raised it to a still low 60. Considering it now has a metal wig on its head and Tangling Hair decreases opponent's Speed when they make contact (hi there Gooey), you'd think they would actually take more from Speed and put it into its defensive stats to try and make it defensive. Of course with an HP of 35 that probably wouldn't help so overall maybe they should have gone with a different idea.

But we got what we got so maybe it got some useful movepool changes? Only ones worth mentioning is Iron Head and Thrash (though I could see normal getting that one too this gen).

And that's not to mention the Ability it replaced Tangling Hair with is Arena Trap! One of the Abilities that gives Dugtrio a chance as it would trap a grounded opponent it could take on. Now it's still fast and will no doubt put a dent whoever it faces, and all those new resistances help give it a bit of staying power, but I feel this is a bit of a downgrade from Normal Dugtrio.

I am not sure if Tangling Hair is worth it on such a fragile Pokémon. I would rather use this as a Sand Force user on a sandstorm team with Explosion Gigalith to bring in Alola Dugtrio safely.

I agree in part with this, but there is a niche for this thing. It is the fastest Mon with its Type Combo, and the fastest non-Mega Steel-Type period (it ties with M-Metagross, and is just barely outpaced by M-Lucario). This thing it a Fairy killer, plain and simple, with the combo of Iron Head, EQ, and Stone Edge giving it exceptional coverage (and all of those moves are buffed by Sand Force, so that's a plus). It can also separate itself from fellow Ground/Steel behemoth Excadrill by having Sucker Punch, which is rather nice.

Basically, the advantage it has is it's a fast Steel-Type with great secondary STAB that doesn't need a Scarf or Sand to be fast. It likely won't end up in OU, but I can see it poking its head(s) into that tier every now and again.

Idk with sand force and the atk buff alolan duggy could be cool. The speed nerf is a little upsetting though, but it could definitely worse than 110.

A-Duggy could have been amazing with additional STAB Iron Head if it retained Arena Trap. Tangling Hair is so underwhelming it's not even funny. Would have been cool if Tangling Hair trapped the Pokemon that KO'ed A-Dugtrio for one turn, allowing some set up with your Pokemon. Not sure how good that would be. Sand Force is decent on A-Dugtrio for sand on the lower tiers. It does get Stone Edge which I suppose makes up a bit for Duggy's modest 100 attack compared to Excadrill who has much better attack but, which for some reason doesn't get Stone Edge. Memento is also a neat move to give it a small niche over Drill.

Pele's Hair is a variety of volcanic glass is flexible and that forms in long brownish-yellow strands, as seen here:

That's what Dugtrio's hair is, and since it's formed from molten metal, there's your Steel-Typing.
Personally I just thought it was because they had Hair Metal-esque hair.
Probably both.

Pretty meh pokemon imo, typing is good but with 30/60/70 bulk it isn't doing jack shit defensively. And even after attack boost, 100 attack is not that great. PU/NU I guess.

I know a lot of people are disappointed that he isn't an improved Dugtrio.... But ask yourselves. Did you really want to see Fabio and his Siamese twins in every match?

I still think he's pretty cool tbh. He has a good speed tier still, and with sand force he'll hit pretty hard. maybe pop a life orb on him and he can be scary. I'll be trying him out for sure.
