btw this is my 1.4k post...

[OVERVIEW]

Magic Guard allows Alakazam to act either as an amazing wallbreaker with Life Orb or as a reliable revenge killer with Focus Sash. Magic Guard also protects it from status bar paralysis, which still lowers its Speed. Alakazam's great base 120 Speed leaves it outsped by only a select few Pokemon that don't want to switch into it such as Crobat and Mega Beedrill. Common Choice Scarf holders such as Hydreigon also can't switch in, leaving it to only be revenge killed. Alakazam also has access to a plethora of good coverage moves such as Focus Blast, Dazzling Gleam, Shadow Ball, and Energy Ball to pick off specific threats, allowing it to fit on different playstyles easily. It also has decent support options, such as Substitute, Calm Mind, and Thunder Wave, that can help it get around common checks such as Sucker Punch users, special walls, and faster Pokemon. While Alakazam has little to no switch-ins, it cannot freely switch in itself, as it has very poor defenses and must rely on its teammates pivoting in and out or the foe going for a weak special attack or support move. Alakazam is also not as strong as it wants to be without Life Orb and it can't be as reliable at revenge killing without Focus Sash.

Moves
========

Psychic is Alakazam's most powerful attack, while Psyshock pairs better with Calm Mind to hit special walls aiming to tank Alakazam's other moves. Focus Blast allows Alakazam to hit Dark-types such as Krookodile and Mega Houndoom, which are immune to its STAB moves and resist Shadow Ball. Focus Blast also hits bulky Steel-types such as Mega Aggron. Shadow Ball provides arguably the best coverage, allowing Alakazam to hit opposing Psychic-types such as Cresselia and Reuniclus as well as netting coverage on Doublade. Dazzling Gleam still gains coverage on Dark-types such as Mandibuzz and Sableye, and it also allows Alakazam to hit Dragon-types such as Salamence and Hydreigon. Calm Mind gives Alakazam a way to power through special walls that tend to commonly switch in such as Florges and Blissey. Substitute grants Alakazam safety against Sucker Punch users such as Mega Absol, Mega Houndoom, and Toxicroak and can also be used when predicting a death fodder switching in to ensure Alakazam is safe the following turn. It also allows Alakazam to dodge Thunder Wave from special walls such as Blissey. Energy Ball is a nice option that guarantees the OHKO on Krookodile as opposed to Dazzling Gleam, OHKOes Swampert, and does a nice chunk to Suicune. Encore allows Alakazam to force walls out, making them repeat their recovery or status moves. Taunt, on the other hand, can prevent Porygon2 from using Recover or Thunder Wave, which can cripple Alakazam, and prevent the use of Defog to keep up entry hazards.

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack and Speed EVs with a Timid nature allow Alakazam to outspeed some key threats such as Azelf and Whimsicott. Life Orb allows Alakazam to deal as much damage as possible. Magic Guard allows Alakazam to not wear itself down with Life Orb recoil while firing off powerful attacks. Another EV option consists of shifting 16 EVs from Special Attack to Defense to avoid being OHKOed by Mega Aerodactyl's Pursuit.

Usage Tips
========

Alakazam likes to come in early-game and weaken walls to allow its partners to set up and power through the opposing team later on. Alakazam should only be switching in after a teammate has fainted or into weak special attacks and support moves such as Tentacruel's Scald or Will-O-Wisp. Alakazam can be either a cleaner or a wallbreaker depending on the opposing team and the set it runs, as it softens up balance playstyles but can also pick up KOs mid- or late-game against bulky offense teams. If running Calm Mind, Alakazam shouldn't set up until mid-game when certain checks, such as Doublade, are gone, as they can easily revenge kill Alakazam. While Alakazam does have Magic Guard, it must be wary of paralysis-inducing moves such as Thunder Wave and Body Slam, as it will still be crippled by paralysis. Alakazam serves better as a revenge killer due to its lack of bulk, meaning it can't switch in on any attacking move.

Team Options
========

Spikes support from the likes of Froslass helps Alakazam break through fat teams. Sableye is a good partner to form the famous Spikes offense core, giving the team a secondary spinblocker and stallbreaker to continue overpowering the opposing team. Pivots such as Gligar, Cobalion, and Zapdos can bring in Alakazam easily and provide it with more opportunities to break the opposing team. Setup sweepers such as Swords Dance Cobalion and Mega Absol appreciate Alakazam's ability to weaken walls so that they can power through the foes after setting up. Fairy-types such as Whimsicott and Florges not only synergize with Alakazam not only offensively by getting rid of Dark-types, but also defensively by being able to take on the Bug- and Dark-type moves aimed at Alakazam. Other special attackers such as Salamence and Heliolisk appreciate Alakazam's ability to work around special walls, weakening them enough for said special attackers to muscle past them.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Psychic is Alakazam's most powerful STAB move, hitting Fighting- and Poison-types hard. Alakazam's coverage moves completely depend on the rest of its team and what it needs to revenge kill. Shadow Ball provides Alakazam with a way to hit opposing Psychic-types such as Metagross as well as Doublade, which resists Psychic and is immune to Focus Blast. Focus Blast hits Dark- and Steel-types such as Hydreigon, Empoleon, and Cobalion. Thunder Wave is somewhat necessary in the last slot, allowing Alakazam to cripple faster Pokemon or Choice Scarf users such as Mega Aerodactyl, Salamence, and Hydreigon after surviving a hit. Dazzling Gleam is a more reliable option over Focus Blast to still hit Dark-types, but it loses coverage on Steel-types. It can also be used over Thunder Wave if the need for speed control isn't needed. Energy Ball allows Alakazam to revenge kill Mega Swampert under rain, if it needs to.

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack and Speed EVs with a Timid nature allow Alakazam to hit hard and be as fast as possible. Magic Guard allows Alakazam to avoid being worn down by entry hazards or status moves such as Will-O-Wisp and Toxic. Focus Sash, in conjunction with Magic Guard, makes Alakazam the most reliable revenge killer in the tier, as can survive any boosted hit and proceed to get rid of any major threat with its immense coverage.

Usage Tips
========

Try to conserve Alakazam's Focus Sash for as long as possible, as it is the main reason for running this set, and without it, Alakazam fails to check faster Pokemon or setup sweepers that may have gotten out of hand. Alakazam should be coming in mid- or late-game after one of its teammates has been KOed, as it otherwise risks losing its Focus Sash prematurely.

Team Options
========

Spikes support from Froslass or Forretress helps Alakazam break through bulkier teams a lot easier. Fairy-types such as Slurpuff and Whimsicott can help get rid of Dark-types for Alakazam. Whimsicott can also help deter setup sweepers thanks to Prankster Encore and pivot into Alakazam with U-turn. Pivots such as Mega Beedrill and Heliolisk help Alakazam come in easily to reliably revenge kill threats to the team. Wallbreakers such as Choice Band Heracross and Choice Band Entei can provide a lot of power, allowing Alakazam to clean up later in the match. Shaymin in particular is a really nice wallbreaking partner, as it has access to Healing Wish, which allows Focus Sash to be usable again if Alakazam has taken some damage during the previous turns. Slower Pokemon such as Mamoswine and Chandelure appreciate Alakazam's ability to cripple faster threats with Thunder Wave, making them even more threatening to the opponent when their checks can no longer outspeed them.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

An EV spread of 84 Def / 172 SpA / 252 Spe guarantees Life Orb Alakazam to survive Choice Band Entei's Extreme Speed and Doublade's Shadow Sneak while maintaining roughly the same power as the Focus Sash set. This means it can continue pressuring the opponent's team with powerful attacks while surviving common priority moves. Sadly, with the power being roughly on par with the Focus Sash set, this is not as optimal as the preferred spread with maximum Special Attack and Speed investment. Hidden Power Fire can be a nice option to lure in and get a surprise KO on somewhat common checks to Alakazam, but it is hard to fit because the coverage stated is almost always necessary.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Sableye and Mandibuzz**: Sableye and Mandibuzz can tank a Dazzling Gleam from Alakazam and fire back with a super effective Knock Off.

**Pursuit Trappers**: Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Beedrill, and Crobat trap and OHKO Alakazam or bring it down to its Focus Sash, making it less effective as a revenge killer.

**Priority Users**: Due to Alakazam's lack of bulk, most priority moves will cripple or outright OHKO it, such as Entei's Extreme Speed and Doublade's Shadow Sneak. Mega Absol, while slower, has STAB Sucker Punch to threaten it and doesn't care about Thunder Wave thanks to Magic Bounce.

**Faster Pokemon**: Choice Scarf users such as Hydreigon and Mienshao can outspeed and KO Alakazam with their moves. Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Beedrill, Mega Sceptile, and Crobat are naturally faster than Alakazam and also have access to Pursuit to trap it. Pursuit Mega Aerodactyl is one of the most common checks to Alakazam, but it risks being crippled by Thunder Wave if Alakazam happens to run enough EVs to survive Pursuit.

**Paralysis**: While Alakazam has access to Magic Guard, it is still crippled by paralysis, as the Speed drop means it can no longer outspeed key threats.

Sets should be like this imo

name: Life Orb Attacker

move 2: Shadow Ball
move 3: Focus Blast / Dazzling Gleam
move 4: Substitute / Dazzling Gleam / Calm Mind
item: Life Orb
ability: Magic Guard
nature: Timid
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Psyshocks pretty eh without cm or encore since you dont beat florges. Sub is pretty awesome and probably the best first move in slot 4. FB and DGleam are pretty interchangeable in slot 3.

name: Revenge Killer
move 1: Psychic
move 2: Focus Blast
move 3: Shadow Ball / Dazzling Gleam
move 4: Thunder Wave / Dazzling Gleam
item: Focus Sash
ability: Magic Guard

Not sure why shadow ball is given priority in life orb but not in sash but w/e. Psyshock is completely terrible on sash zam. Twave sash is stupid and really good. Thats pretty much it.

I was actually planning on working on this "tonight" some more. I will see if I can get it into QC by Friday (been busy with other forums / irl stuff) so we can continue on with this analysis. :)

Why is energy ball not a main slash? I use it far more often than any other fourth option. Always OHKOing krook (opposed to dgleam), OHKOing swampert, and doing huge damage to +0 cune is massive. I bet it 2hkos suicune with psyshock after rocks (not sure). Also serves as a way to hit empoleon while using dgleam; it does pretty good damage to empoleon.

Maybe twave should be in other options also. I believe alakazam needs only like 12 defense EVs to always live aerodactyl's pursuit? It's situational but Aerodactyl clicks pursuit all the time on alakazam anyway, especially after it has done life orb kazam damage. Twave comes in handy to essentially neuter aero.

I will admit I am not as familiar with the Focus Sash set as I am with the Life Orb set so that set may be lacking a bit.

Other than that, it's ready for QC n_n

Intro: you need to mention its speed as a huge asset, leaving it only outspeed by a select few Pokemon that can't switch into it whatsoever and Choice Scarf holders.

Disagree with yabo's moves for Life Orb, imo they should be:
  • Psychic / Psyshock
  • Focus Blast
  • Shadow Ball
  • Dazzling Gleam / Calm Mind / Substitute
with Energy Ball, Encore, and Taunt in moves. Energy Ball for the reasons Omfuga stated, Taunt is good to stop recovery, TWave from P2 and stuff, and also Defog. Check the Pursuit calc that Omfuga said, if it's true then TWave can be mentioned too, if not then get rid of it since all faster stuff just OHKOs Zam. Focus Blast isn't really interchangeable with Gleam because most importantly it hits generic special walls like P2, Snorlax, Umbreon, and Empoleon extremely hard. Get rid of the part about bulky Rock types, Aerodactyl and Diancie both take more from Psychic. Dazzling Gleam hits Mandibuzz and Sableye harder than anything, so include that. Sub is okay but pretty situational and relies on your opponent switching out to sack a slower threat, but Gleam hits two of your biggest usual checks and decreases reliance on Focus Blast while CM completely punishes teams that are forced to switch in Florges and Suicune and stuff like that.

Set details for LO: move that 84 spread to OO. Usage Tips: Alakazam can either be a cleaner or a breaker depending on the opposing team and the set it runs, it softens up balance but can just pick up kills mid- to late-game against bulky offense. Team Options: Spikes offense, especially with Froslass Sableye, definitely needs to be listed first as Spikes support is where Alakazam can really thrive against fat teams. Stuff that can switch into or at least revenge kill Aero, Beedrill, Crobat etc is needed.

Add Energy Ball to Moves for Sash since it allows you to revenge kill Mega Swampert under rain, if needed. Actually you should start off that section by saying that the moves completely depend on the rest of Alakazam's team and what it needs to revenge kill; if DD mence can sweep at +1 then Dazzling Gleam is needed, same for Mega Swampert and energy ball etc. I wouldn't say any move besides Psychic is 100% necessary on every Sash Alakazam, though most should at least carry TWave as well.

Spikes support is great for Sash Zam as well.

Fix up OO and put HP Fire there, to hit SDef Forre and Escavalier.

Checks and Counters: Dark types shouldn't really be a section, Krookodile shouldn't be there whatsoever as it can't trap without dodging a Focus Blast. You can change this section to Sableye and Mandibuzz, which can both at least take one LO Dazzling Gleam and OHKO back and can deal with any other set pretty easily. You can move Absol to priority. Then add a separate section for faster Pokemon where you can include Choice Scarfers and Aerodactyl, Beedrill, Sceptile, and Crobat (all 4 of which learn Pursuit) and you should specify that Pursuit Mega Aerodactyl is one of the most common checks to Alakazam, but risks taking a TWave.

This has been implemented! n_n

Ok so first and foremost it seems like you didn't properly implement dodmen's check since he wanted you to get rid of "Dark-types" being a section and limiting it to just Sableye and Mandibuzz, which you did do in the description but the section itself should be named as such due to Dark-types being a generalization which doesn't fit the category.

Onto my own check, however, for the first set in Usage Tips I'd definitely mention switching Alakazam in only on weak offensive moves / support moves or via pivoting since its pretty frail. In accordance to this I definitely think pivots should have a section in Team Options seeing as how Alakazam loves to have these opportunities to break teams with minimal risk. That section in Team Options about Pert, Zong and CS users just seems very weird since it feels really specific for something that could probably be generalized a bit more but I'm not too sure on how to word it since it's basically Pokemon that can check Pokemon that are faster than Alakazam.

For the second set, I'd definitely expand a bit on the second point in Set Details and relating it with the third point a bit, since the way the second point is worded right now can basically be said about any other Focus Sash user in the tier, the only thing separating it from the rest is that Alakazam can't have its Focus Sash broken via entry hazards. In Team Options, I'd definitely give a special mention to Shaymin in the wallbreakers section since it also has access to Healing Wish which allows Alakazam to regain the use of its Focus Sash should it be "broken" prior. Also there's no way Whimsicott's U-turn is even close to "slow-ish" with that base 116 Speed lol. Also pivots pls for TO.

Lastly, for C&C I'd definitely mention Pursuit here as its own section, considering it's one of the main ways people are trying to check this thing and can immediately remove it / bring it down to Sash. Very unsure about bulky Psychic-types even having a section since I consider them to be pretty mediocre checks due to Alakazam being able to smack them for a lot with Shadow Ball, meaning they'd have to be fairly healthy throughout the game for them to even be considered as checks. If this section is kept though then you should reword it a bit since there's a bit that makes it sound like Shadow Ball Cresselia is a thing lol.

After all of this you can consider this 2/3.

also this is really nitpicky but you say that its outsped by aero bee scep and crobat, all of which learn pursuit. only aero ever uses it, though, so you should probably change that

Pursuit Crobat is used, Beedrill can definitely use it to patch up an overbearing zam weakness and it also weakens others like Slowking and Reuniclus.

Sup NV, very nice job. I agree with everything dodmen and Kreme said. I just have a few things to add. While mentioning Sub on the LO set, you should definitely mention that it uses Substitute on predicted switches to death fodder as well. I would probably take T wave out of the Set Comments on the LO set. It would only come in handy when you predict a pursuit from an aero, live, and t wave. I feel as if that would never be a good reason to dedicate a whole move slot for that one scenario when LO Psychic is a midroll to kill after SR anyway.

In Usage tips for LO I would say that Alakazam can only switch into weak special attacks(example:tentacruel scald) as opposed to not being able to switch into anything.

Team Options for both sets should add U Turn/V Switch users as Alakazam loves free switch ins.

Thats pretty much it, 3/3 when all of the updates are made.

PS: Aero, Sceptile, Beedrill, and Crobat can all viably run Pursuit, Ununhexium. Zam is that scary.

Psychic is the more solid choice as it gives Alakazam's most a very powerful attack, (AC) while Psyshock pairs better with Calm Mind variants to hit special walls aiming to tank Alakazam's other moves. Maximum Special Attack and Speed EVs with a Timid nature allows Alakazam to outspeed some key threats such as Azelf and Whimsicott. Life Orb allows Alakazam to deal as much damage as possible as Magic Guard negates the recoil. (alakazam dealing a lot of damage is not a consequence of magic guard negating recol damage, and in any case you talk about this in the following sentence) Magic Guard allows Alakazam to not wear itself down with Life Orb recoil while firing off powerful attacks. Another EV option is consists of shifting 16 EVs from Special Attack to Defense to avoid being OHKO'd OHKOed by Mega Aerodactyl's Pursuit.

Moves
========

Psychic is Alakazam's most powerful STAB move, hitting Fighting- and Poison-types hard. Alakazam's coverage moves completely depend on the rest of Alakazam's its team and what it needs to revenge kill. Shadow Ball provides Alakazam with a way to hit opposing Psychic-types such as Metagross as well as Doublade, who which resists its STAB move and is immune to Focus Blast.

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack and Speed EVs with a Timid nature allows Alakazam to hit hard and be as fast as possible. Magic Guard allows Alakazam to avoid being worn down by entry hazards or status moves such as Will-O-Wisp and Toxic. Focus Sash, in conjunction with Magic Guard, makes Alakazam the most reliable revenge killer in the tier, (AC) as can live any boosted hit and proceed to get rid of any major threat with its immense coverage.

Usage Tips
========

Try and conserve Alakazam's Focus Sash for as long as possible, as it is the main reason of running this set and without it, (RC) Alakazam fails to check faster Pokemon or setup sweepers that may have gotten out of hand. Alakazam should be coming in mid- to late-game after one of its teammates has been are OHKOed, (AC) as it otherwise risks losing its Focus Sash prematurely otherwise.

Team Options
========

Spikes support from Froslass or Forretress helps Alakazam to keep its Focus Sash intact and proceed to break through the bulkier teams a lot easier. Fairy-types such as Slurpuff and Whimsicott can help get rid of Dark-types a lot easier for Alakazam. Whimsicott can also help deter setup sweepers thanks to Prankster Encore and pivot into Alakazam with U-turn. Pivots such as Mega Beedrill and Heliolisk help Alakazam come in easier easily and to reliably revenge kill threats to the team. Wallbreakers such as Choice Band Heracross and Choice Band Entei can provide a lot of power, allowing Alakazam to clean up later in the match. Shaymin in particular is a really nice wallbreaking partner, (AC) as it has access to Healing Wish, which allows Alakazam to regain the use of its Focus Sash to be usable again if Alakazam has taken some damage the previous turns should it be "broken" prior. Slower Pokemon such as Mamoswine and Chandelure appreciate Alakazam's ability to cripple faster threats with Thunder Wave, making them even more threatening to the opponent when their checks can no longer outspeed them.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A spread of 84 Def / 172 SpA / 252 Spe guarantees Life Orb Alakazam to live Choice Band Entei's Extreme Speed or Doublade's Shadow Sneak with while maintaining roughly the same power as the Focus Sash set. This means it can continue pressuring the opponent's team with powerful attacks while living common priority. Sadly, with the power being roughly on par with the Focus Sash set, this is not as optimal as the preferred max/max spread with maximum Special Attack and Speed investment. Hidden Power Fire for specially defensive Forretress and Escavalier can be a nice option to lure in and get a surprise KO on somewhat common checks to Alakazam such as specially defensive Forretress and Escavalier, but it is hard to fit whenever because the coverage stated is almost always necessary.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Sableye and Mandibuzz**: Sableye and Mandibuzz can tank a Dazzling Gleam from Alakazam and fire back with a super effective Knock Off.

**Pursuit**: Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Beedrill, and Crobat trap and OHKO it Alakazam or bring Alakazam it down to its Focus Sash, making it less effective as a revenge killer.

**Priority**: Due to Alakazam's lack of bulk, most priority with will cripple or outright OHKO it Alakazam, (AC) such as Entei's Extreme Speed or Doublade's Shadow Sneak. Mega Absol, while slower, has STAB Sucker Punch to threaten it and doesn't care about Thunder Wave thanks to Magic Bounce.

**Faster Pokemon**: Choice Scarf users such as Hydreigon and Mienshao can outspeed and KO Alakazam with their moves. as well as Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Beedrill, Mega Sceptile, and Crobat, (RC) are naturally faster than Alakazam and also have access to Pursuit to trap it all 4 of which learn Pursuit. Pursuit Mega Aerodactyl is one of the most common checks to Alakazam, but it risks taking a TWave being crippled by Thunder Wave if it Alakazam happens to run enough EVs to live Pursuit to cripple it.

**Paralysis**: While Alakazam has access to Magic Guard, it is still crippled by paralysis, (AC) as the Speed drop means it can no longer outspeed key threats.

uu alakazam... how the mighty has fallen
also nice catch on the other analysis, that "physical attacks" was definitely meant not to be removed, whoops
[OVERVIEW]

Magic Guard makes allows Alakazam to act either as an amazing wallbreaker with Life Orb or as a reliable revenge killer with Focus Sash. Magic Guard also protects it from status bar paralysis Thunder Wave, which still lowers its Speed. Alakazam's great base 120 Speed leaves it outsped by only a select few Pokemon that don't want to switch into it, (AC) such as Crobat and Mega Beedrill. Common Choice Scarf holders (such as?) also can't switch in either, leaving it to only be revenge killed. Alakazam also has access to a plethora of good coverage moves such as Focus Blast, Dazzling Gleam, Shadow Ball, and Energy Ball to pick off specific threats, allowing it to fit on different playstyles easily. It also has decent support options, (AC) such as Substitute, Calm Mind, and Thunder Wave, (AC) that can help it get around common checks such as Sucker Punch users, special walls, and faster Pokemon. While Alakazam has little to no switch-ins, it cannot freely switch in itself, (AC) as it has very poor defenses and must rely on its teammates pivoting in and out or the opponent going for a weak special attack move or support move. Alakazam is also not as strong as it wants to be without Life Orb and it can't be as reliable at revenge killing without Focus Sash.

Moves
========

Psychic is the more solid choice as it gives Alakazam's most a very powerful attack, (AC) while Psyshock pairs better with Calm Mind variants to hit special walls aiming to tank Alakazam's other moves. Dazzling Gleam still gains coverage on Dark-types such as Mandibuzz and Sableye, but and it also allows Alakazam to hit Dragon-types such as Salamence and Hydreigon. Calm Mind gives Alakazam a way to power through special walls that tend to commonly switch in such as Florges and Blissey. Substitute grants Alakazam safety against Sucker Punch users such as Mega Absol, Mega Houndoom, and Toxicroak, and it can also be used or when predicting a death fodder switching in to ensure Alakazam is safe the following turn. It also allows Alakazam to dodge Thunder Wave from special walls such as Blissey. Energy Ball is a nice option to that guarantees the OHKO on Krookodile as opposed to Dazzling Gleam, OHKOes Swampert, and does a nice chunk to Suicune. Encore allows Alakazam to force walls out, making them repeat their recovery or status moves. Taunt, on the other hand, can prevent Porygon2 from using Recover or Thunder Wave, which can cripple Alakazam, and prevent the use of Defog to keep up entry hazards.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

Alakazam likes to come in early-game and weaken walls to allow its partners to set up and power through the opposing team later on. Alakazam should only be switching in when a after a teammate has fainteds or into weak special attacks moves and support moves such as Tentacruel's Scald or Will-O-Wisp. Alakazam can either be either a cleaner or a wallbreaker depending on the opposing team and the set it runs, as it softens up balance playstyles but can also just pick up kills mid- to late-game against bulky offense teams. If running Calm Mind, Alakazam shouldn't set up until mid-game when certain checks, such as Doublade, are gone, (AC) as they can easily revenge Alakazam. While Alakazam does have Magic Guard, it must be wary of paralysis-inducing moves such as Thunder Wave and Body Slam, (AC) as it will still be crippled by paralysis. Alakazam serves better as a revenge killer due to its lack of bulk, (AC) meaning it can't switch in on any attacking move.

Team Options
========

Spikes support from the likes of Froslass helps Alakazam break through fat teams. Sableye is a good partner to form the famous Spikes Offense core, giving the team a secondary spinblocker and stallbreaker to continue overpowering the opponent. Fairy-types such as Whimsicott and Florges not only synergize with Alakazam offensively by getting rid of Dark-types, but defensively as well by being able to take on the Bug- and Dark-type moves aimed at Alakazam. Other special attackers such as Salamence and Heliolisk appreciate Alakazam's ability to work around special walls, weakening them enough for said special attackers to muscle past them.

Sableye is a good partner to form the famous Spikes Offense offense core, giving the team a secondary spinblocker and stallbreaker to continue overpowering the opponent opposing team. Fairy-types such as Whimsicott and Florges not only synergize with Alakazam not only offensively by getting rid of Dark-types, but also defensively as well ("not only but also" is the way to go) by being able to take on the Bug- and Dark-type moves aimed at Alakazam. Other special attackers such as Salamence and Heliolisk appreciate Alakazam's ability to work around special walls, weakening them enough for said special attackers to muscle past them.

Moves
========

Psychic is Alakazam's most powerful STAB move, hitting Fighting- and Poison-types hard. Alakazam's coverage moves completely depend on the rest of its team and what it needs to revenge kill. Shadow Ball provides Alakazam with a way to hit opposing Psychic-types such as Metagross as well as Doublade, which resists its STAB move Psychic (that's the only one listed) and is immune to Focus Blast.

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack and Speed EVs with a Timid nature allows Alakazam to hit hard and be as fast as possible. Magic Guard allows Alakazam to avoid being worn down by entry hazards or status moves such as Will-O-Wisp and Toxic. Focus Sash, in conjunction with Magic Guard, makes Alakazam the most reliable revenge killer in the tier, as can live survive any boosted hit and proceed to get rid of any major threat with its immense coverage.

Usage Tips
========

Try and to conserve Alakazam's Focus Sash for as long as possible, as it is the main reason of for running this set, (AC) and without it, (AC) Alakazam fails to check faster Pokemon or setup sweepers that may have gotten out of hand. Alakazam should be coming in mid- to or late-game after one of its teammates has been OHKOed, as it otherwise risks losing its Focus Sash prematurely.

Team Options
========

Other Options
=============

An EV spread of 84 Def / 172 SpA / 252 Spe guarantees Life Orb Alakazam to live survive Choice Band Entei's Extreme Speed or and Doublade's Shadow Sneak while maintaining roughly the same power as the Focus Sash set. This means it can continue pressuring the opponent's team with powerful attacks while living surviving common priority moves.

===================

**Sableye and Mandibuzz**: Sableye and Mandibuzz can tank a Dazzling Gleam from Alakazam and fire back with a super effective Knock Off.

**Pursuit Trappers**: Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Beedrill, and Crobat trap and OHKO Alakazam or bring Alakazam it down to its Focus Sash, making it less effective as a revenge killer.

**Priority Users**: Due to Alakazam's lack of bulk, most priority moves will cripple or outright OHKO it, such as Entei's Extreme Speed or and Doublade's Shadow Sneak. Mega Absol, while slower, has STAB Sucker Punch to threaten it and doesn't care about Thunder Wave thanks to Magic Bounce.

**Faster Pokemon**: Choice Scarf users such as Hydreigon and Mienshao can outspeed and KO Alakazam(space)with their moves. Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Beedrill, Mega Sceptile, and Crobat are naturally faster than Alakazam(space)and also have access to Pursuit(space)to trap it. Pursuit Mega Aerodactyl is one of the most common checks to Alakazam, but it risks being crippled by Thunder Wave if Alakazam happens to run enough EVs to live survive Pursuit.

**Paralysis**: While Alakazam has access to Magic Guard, it is still crippled by paralysis, as the Speed drop means it can no longer outspeed key threats.
