Moves
========
* Psychic is Alakazam's best Psychic-type STAB move which allows it to deal major damage to a majority of the Pokemon in the tier.
* Psyshock may be used instead because of its ability to hit Chansey and other special walls alike for more damage, though it's generally worse than Psychic outside of that.
* Focus Blast allows Alakazam to deal with Tyranitar and other Dark-types, which are immune to Psychic-type attacks. It's also useful for hitting Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Heatran for super effective damage, both of which resist Psychic-type attacks.
* Recover is very good because it allows Alakazam to beat Pokemon like Toxapex, and to a lesser extent, Heatran.
* Shadow Ball lets Alakazam reliably deal with Psychic-types like Mew and Latios.
* Calm Mind can be used to enhance Alakazam's power, it's also useful as it turns Heatran into a complete liability against it. It should only be used in tandem with Recover.
* Hidden Power Fire may be used to hit Ferrothorn and Mega Scizor for 4x super effective damage.
* Knock Off can be used in tandem with Psychic to break through stall because, if Chansey's Eviolite is removed it gets 2HKOd by Focus Blast, most of the time. It's also just generally useful for removing items from Pokemon like Heatran and Magearna.
Set Details
========
* 252 Special Attack and 252 Speed investment in conjunction with a Timid nature make Alakazam as strong and fast as possible.
* Life Orb further enhances Alakazam's overall damage output.
* Magic Guard protects Alakazam from getting worn down by entry hazards and status. It also negates the recoil damage from Life Orb.
Usage Tips
========
* Alakazam can take advantage of both Toxapex and Heatran, as it's one of the few Pokemon that can effectively answer both, so try to switch it in on them if possible.
* Choice Scarf users like Landorus-T, Kartana, and Greninja should be scouted for and dealt with because they can easily revenge kill Alakazam; this also goes for priority users like Zygarde, Mega Scizor, and Mega Medicham.
* If Alakazam is utilizing Knock Off it should be used minimally and only to cripple Pokemon like Chansey, Heatran, and Tapu Bulu.
Team Options
========
* Alakazam is a good fit balance and bulky offense builds that need a Pokemon to pressure Toxapex and Heatran, it's also a nice wallbreaker in general.
* A strong defensive backbone is required with Alakazam as it's relatively frail. Pokemon like Clefable, Celesteela, and Mega Venusaur can form a decent defensive backbone for Alakazam.
* Entry hazard support from Pokemon like Ferrothorn, Clefable, and Greninja is very nice because, entry hazards let Alakazam gain a lot of additional KOs.
* If Alakazam is lacking Shadow Ball, Pursuit trappers like Tyranitar and Weavile may be used to defeat Ghost- and Psychic-types.
