[OVERVIEW]

- Aegislash's fantastic typing, vast movepool, and great offensive and defensive stats make it one of the best Pokemon in UU.
- Its aforementioned movepool lets it choose its checks and counters. For example, Chansey can wall its Substitute + Toxic set, but it gives Swords Dance variants free set up against it.
- Its valuable Steel typing gives it a Stealth Rock resistance and Toxic immunity to come in on passive walls.
- King's Shield is a very important move to weaken foes down, accrue Toxic damage and Leftovers recovery, and scout out the intentions of Choice-locked users like Zygarde-10% and Keldeo.
- However, Aegislash is hindered by its main flaw, its low Speed; this leaves it open for a revenge killer like Hydreigon and Zarude.
- Certain set up sweepers like Swords Dance Scizor can also set up on King's Shield attempts,
- Knock Off from Pokemon it usually checks like Nihilego greatly hinders Aegislash, since it ruins its only source of recovery it has.

[SET]
name: SubToxic
move 1: Shadow Ball
move 2: Toxic
move 3: Substitute
move 4: King's Shield
item: Leftovers
ability: Stance Change
nature: Modest
evs: 252 HP / 56 SpA / 200 SpD
ivs: 0 Atk

[SET COMMENTS]

- Shadow Ball is the most consistent move, as it deals solid damage to Toxic immune Pokemon like Amoonguss.
- Toxic punishes switch-ins such as Mandibuzz, Hydreigon, and Tangrowth.
- Substitute eases predictions and blocks Spore from Amoonguss.
- King's Shield lets it scout out Choice and gain Leftovers recovery
- A Modest nature and 56 Special Attack EVs lets Aegislash 2HKO Excadrill after Stealth Rock, with the rest of the EVs dumped into HP and Special Defense to better check foes like Nihilego and special Salamence.
- 0 Attack IVs prevents Umbreon's Foul Play from breaking its Substitute in Shield Forme.

- SubToxic Aegislash best fits on balance and semi-stall teams, breaking down its typical checks down with the combination King's Shield and Toxic.
- Heavy-Duty Boots Zarude is a pretty hard stop to this set, so partners that can handle it such as Salamence and Cobalion help it out. The latter in particular helps since it can also be a Stealth Rock setter, pivot, and Knock Off absorber, though this leaves it open to Fire- and Ground-types like Salazzle and Zygarde-10%.
- Umbreon provides Wish support to offset the health lost from Substitute and can handle threats like Nidoking.
- Other pivots like Moltres can handle other nuisances such as Celesteela and Amoonguss, while Azelf can bring it in on a foe Slowking.
- Calm Mind Slowking appreciates Aegislash wearing down both Hydreigon and Zarude so that it can sweep late-game.

[SET]
name: Mixed
move 1: Shadow Ball
move 2: Close Combat
move 3: King's Shield
move 4: Toxic
item: Leftovers
ability: Stance Change
nature: Quiet
evs: 252 HP / 8 Atk / 248 SpA

[SET COMMENTS]

- Shadow Ball
- Close Combat
- King's Shield scouts
- Toxic
- 8 Attack EVs lets Aegislash 2HKO Chansey after Stealth Rock. 136 Speed EVs is an option to outspeed Conkeldurr at the cost of some bulk.

Paragraph 2
Describe some teammates that would be a good idea to pair with this Pokemon to help it fulfill its role.

[SET]
name: Choice Specs
move 1: Shadow Ball
move 2: Flash Cannon
move 3: Close Combat
move 4: Shadow Sneak
item: Choice Specs
ability: Stance Change
nature: Mild
evs: 8 Atk / 248 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

- With a Choice Specs equipped, Aegislash becomes a dangerous wallbreaker, 2HKOing special walls such as Assault Vest Tangrowth after Stealth Rock with Shadow Ball.
- Flash Cannon gives it good neutral damage against Ghost-resistant foes like Mandibuzz and Zarude.
- Steel Beam over Flash Cannon gives it an absolute nuke to OHKO Amoonguss, but this wears down it down extreamly qyuickly
- Close Combat is what separates it from Chandelure, letting it bypass Chansey.
- Shadow Sneak is important priority against faster foes such as Azelf.

- Choice Specs Aegislash is a good early-game wallbreaker that helps its team break through defensive cores
- Pivot support from Swampert, Zarude
- Mamoswine

[SET]
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Shadow Claw / King's Shield
move 3: Shadow Sneak
move 4: Close Combat
item: Air Balloon / Leftovers
ability: Stance Change
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

- Swords Dance lets Aegislash turn the tides checks to its special and mixed sets like Umbreon
- With maximum HP investment, King's Shield is a viable alternative to Shadow Claw to let it have more bulk to set up on special Salamence and usual checks like Zarude and Tangrowth. This does come at the cost of sacrificing neutral damage against foes like Primarina.
- Shadow Sneak lets it pick off a faster Pokemon like Starmie and Zygarde-10%.
- Close Combat gives it coverage against Dark-types like
- Air Balloon gives it an important Ground immunity, letting it stay in on Excadrill and Hippowdon to fire off its boosted attacks. Leftovers on King's Shield variants gives passive recovery and more opportunities to set up against more of the tier.

- Hyper offense and bulky offense teams find
- Nasty Plot Thundurus and Dragon Dance Gyarados can team up to overwhelm defensive staples like Hippowdon and Chansey

Other Options
=============

- King's Shield + Substitute +2 Attacks
- A mixed Autotomize set with Weakness Policy may seem tempting, since it bypasses its biggest flaw in its Speed, but it does struggle with its damage output without Weakness policy, and can't set up as consistently as Swords Dance sets. It is also outspeed by other Choice Scarfers like Hydreigon and Zarude.
- Choice Band
- Metal Sound can be used as a pseudo-Nasty Plot, catching defensive switch-ins like Amoonguss and dealing heavy damage back. This is also very risky to use, as can only be used once and

Checks and Counters
===================

**Dark-types**: Mandibuzz, though it does not appreciate Toxic, is a great check to every other set, since it deals heavy damage to it with Foul Play and heal off damage with Roost. Umbreon can't switch into SD variants

**Knock Off**:
