[SET COMMENTS]
  • Metagross is the most offensively threatening Pokemon in ADV Doubles. Its Meteor Mash at worst 2HKOes neutral targets, and it has access to the two strongest spread moves in Earthquake and Explosion. Its bulk makes it extremely difficult to remove before getting to attack at least once, and Clear Body prevents Attack drops from Tauros and Arcanine's Intimidate.
  • On Choice Band sets, Shadow Ball can be used to OHKO Starmie and deal more damage to Latias. Hidden Power Rock can be useful for hitting Zapdos but doesn't hit much else.
  • Lum Berry is the preferred item to keep Metagross safe from the abundance of Thunder Wave in the tier as well as Gengar's Will-O-Wisp. Choice Band provides more immediate power, particularly notable for Explosion, at the cost of flexibility.
  • The given EV spread is a conservative suggestion on how to EV Metagross, but Metagross can go as fast as running a Jolly nature with 176 Speed EVs to outspeed and OHKO Jolly Tyranitar.
  • Metagross's primary goal is to KO a Pokemon and use Explosion later on. A well-played Metagross can trade three for one if it manages to pull this off. Any skilled opponent will be wary of Explosion, so be careful about using it liberally.
  • Metagross should be on the vast majority of all ADV Doubles teams, and its toolkit is appreciated by almost all Pokemon in the tier. Using it as a lead with Pokemon immune to Earthquake—such as Gengar, Latias, or Zapdos—is recommended.

  • Metagross is the most offensively threatening Pokemon in ADV Doubles, (turn into period for start of a new sentence) with a powerful Its Meteor Mash that scores at worst 2HKOes at worst on neutral targets, and it has access to in addition to the tier's two strongest spread moves in the tier: Earthquake and Explosion. Its natural (you're investing in it so no longer natural ig) bulk makes it extremely difficult to remove before getting to attack at least once, and Clear Body prevents attack drops from being slowed down by Intimidate from Tauros and Arcanine. Tauros and Arcanine's Intimidate.
  • On Choice Band sets, Shadow Ball can be used to deal more damage to Latias as well as OHKO Starmie (OHKOing Starmie feels like a more important point than dealing more damage to Latias, so I'd flip those). Hidden Power Rock can be is useful for hitting Zapdos.
  • Lum Berry is the preferred item to keep Metagross safe from the multitude ("abundance"? ESL talking again so idk if the change of words matters) of Thunder Wave in the tier as well as the occasional Will-O-Wisp from Gengar Gengar's Will-O-Wisp. Choice Band provides can be used for more immediate power but hurts its flexibility.
  • The given EV spread is a conservative suggestion on how to EV Metagross, (change comma to period) Metagross commonly adds more speed EVs to beat opposing Metagross, and it can even use 176 Speed EVs with a Jolly Nature to outspeed and KO Jolly Tyranitar.
  • Metagross's primary goal is to KO a Pokemon and then use Explosion later on. A well-played Metagross can trade three for one if it manages to pull this off. Any skilled opponent will be wary of Explosion, so be careful about using it liberally.
  • Metagross should be on the extreme majority of all ADV Doubles teams, and its toolkit is appreciated by almost all Pokemon in the tier. Using it as a lead with Pokemon immune to Earthquake such as Gengar, Latias, or Zapdos is recommended.

edit: talked abt this w/ zee on discord, metagross spread: 252 HP / 196 Atk / 60 SpD to avoid dropping to a double target
252 SpA Latias Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 60 SpD Metagross: 139-164 (38.1 - 45%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Gengar Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 60 SpD Metagross: 168-198 (46.1 - 54.3%) -- 8.2% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
