Absol or Sceptile?

I can't decide who would make a better lead. I know, I know, both suck or whatever, but all original ones aren't very good, but they're more fun. Anyways, here:

Sceptile@Choice Band
252 Attk/252 Speed/4 HP
Jolly
-Leaf Blade
-Night Slash
-Rockslide
-Earthquake

or

Absol@Choice Scarf
20 HP/252 Attk/236 Speed
Jolly
-Night Slash
-Psycho Cut
-Stone Edge
-????

I also need help for the last move. So....which should I go with?

Use Sceptile,sadly absol sucks

That is true but Sceptile may not be a good lead because of other leads out there. Most notably weavile. I think that Sceptile is better though. Absol just isnt all that good unless you want to do Critical Hits.

Any reason why Absol sucks? I've been hearing Sceptile>Absol everywhere, but nobody has told me a good reason why. Absol can stand up to Weavile better with Choice Scarf, as Sceptile needs Choice Band for the power.

Absol does use a great Scope Lens for late-game sweep, though. Make him Jolly with Super Luck, Scope Lens and with those 3 high-CH moves you're set.

@chocobattler: Because Absol has a sucky type for a physical sweeper, as well as sucky stats and two very bad weaknesses to Megahorn and Close Combat, two very popular moves that are present in pokémon that outspeed him. Sceptile has a nice quake resist, better defenses and movepool, and is faster too.

All right, I'll try that, but the only thing my team needs right now is a good lead. I don't really feel like using Gyarados, Salamence or Weavile.

Absol doesn't have speed to get job even with choice scarf.Sceptile has a chance atleast to be faster than Weavile and hit with hp fire/Rock Slide or something.

Yeah....all right, new idea.

Lucario@Choice Scarf
200 Attk/140 Sp.Attk/168 Speed
Hasty/Lonely
-Blaze Kick
-Dragon Pulse
-Close Combat
-Stone Edge

Fire+Dragon is resisted by nothing, just not sure on the nature.

I say use Absol

IMO, this is a great lead

Absol @ Choice Scarf
Jolly
252 Atk/ 252 Speed/ 6 HP
Super Luck

Night Slash
Psycho Cut
Stone Edge
Me First

Jolly and Choice Scarf can beat CS Hera( gives Absol 409 speed), and if you use it as a lead, this makes SpecsMence eat its own 210 power Draco Meteor with Me First, and can kill Hera with Psycho Cut, and kill Gyara with Stone Edge, if your lucky with CHs

Naive. Lucario takes physical hits (Megahorn, Crunch, Stone Edge) very well so leave his defense untouched. Also, Dark Pulse over Stone Edge would be preferable imo against ghosts and psychic-type pokémon, who otherwise would bet the crap out of you (you are likely switching out against Gyarados anyway). Also your spread is a little off. Max special attack, put enough speed to outspace CS Heracross, and put the rest into attack.

Edit - That would be 148 Atk, 252 Satk, and 108 speed. The reason I'm suggesting max Satk is because the pulses are firing off of 80 BP only, while Close Combat has a whopping 180 thanks to STAB and Blaze Kick can CH your way out of trouble. Either way I think you'd be better off with Aura Sphere and HP Fire/Ground. Modest, 20 Hp, 252 Satk, 236 Speed, gets you the same 270 speed before Choice Scarf, but your HP and Aura Sphere will come from a much higher stat, even though they are lower in BP than Blaze Kick and Close Combat. Your call here really.

The other day I saw this...

dpmfb359.png

Absol @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Super Luck
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Night Slash
- Psycho Cut
- Stone Edge
- Me First

You reach 409.5 speed with this spread (Does the game round it down to 409 or to 410??), so you outspeed like crazy.

Me First looks great for me, but still I need more info on how it works because, if it takes STAB into consideration, Attack boosting items, etc, etc...

What I don't like is the fact that you have to be Jolly + Choice Scarf, but oh well Absol's attack is high at least.

But Sceptile is also cool, I like this moveset...

dpmfa254.png

Sceptile @ Lefties / Big Root
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Leaf Storm
- HP Ice / Dragon Pulse (If you are too lazy to get HP Ice)
- Substitute
- Leech Seed

Or the Choice Specs version.

But they cover different roles so this thread will be closed xD

Starman, that is some great help. I'll definately be using that. The reason I'm going with Close Combat and Blaze Kick instead of HP Fire and Aura Sphere is because the stats aren't extremely far apart like with other pokemon, like Garchomp, so the higher BP will probably be more beneficial. Edux, the reason why I was thinking Choice Scarf+Jolly is because that's the only way it can outrun Weavile. I might also consider those other sets you provided, but I think I'm gonna go with

Lucario@Choice Scarf
148 Attk/252 Sp.Attk/108 Speed
Naive
-Blaze Kick
-Dragon Pulse
-Close Combat
-Dark Pulse

Also, why would this topic be closed?

Yeah I know. It's just that HP Fire deals more to Skarmory and Tangrowth, for one, and a full special moveset with 252 EVs and Modest would have a higher base than a neutral nature for atk and 148 EVs only. But Close Combat does hurt Blissey a lot more. This CS set is pretty good, I was merely illustrating other options. Glad I could help man.

In my opinion Absol is a very good starter, all of you have said the reason.
Jolly + Choice Scarf + Max Speed + Max Attack = 409/410 Speed and 359 attack. Super Luck + Night Slash/Psycho Cut/Stone Edge = Very high possibility of a Critical Hit. And last, Me First hits Salamence with his Draco Meteor, and it's OHKO. You can return Weavile's Brick Break and OHKO it too!!.
His better counter is Heracross, but all pokemon have their own counter. You can use Absol and Gliscor in the same team, to counter Heracross and others Fight or Bug types with it.

I prefer Absol.

Assuming a max IV, Absol can outspeed Alakazam and friends with a Choice Scarf if you give it Adamant, and then it should actually have enough attack to do some decent damage without a critical hit. The only problem is you have to watch out for Weavile.

With Weavile you will have no problem. He will try to kill your Absol with a Brick Break, then you use Me First and OHKO it.
