5-Star Tera Dragon Shiny Rayquaza Raid (Dec 20- Jan 5) & More

shinyrayquazaraids.jpg

Just a 5* this time, like Dialga & Palkia before it. Also like Dialga, Palkia, Wake and Leaves it's only one-per-save file so no getting cute and grinding out shiny Rays

There's also a bunch of stuff running in the lead up.
For Raids...
From November 29th to December 5th, Corviknight and Bellibolt will appear in 5 Star Raid Battles
From December 6th to December 12th, Azumarill and Clodsire will appear in 5 Star Raid Battles
From December 13th to December 19th, Annihilape and Kingambit will appear in 5 Star Raid Battles

For Outbreaks....
From November 29th to December 5th, Tinkatink will appear in a Mass Outbreak event in Paldea with a chance to have the Ferocious Mark
From Decembr 6th through December 12th, Wooper will appear in Mass Outbreaks in Kitakami with a chance to get the Absent-Minded Mark
From December 13th through December 19th, Girafarig will appear in Mass Outbreaks in the Blueberry Academy with a chance to get the Intellectual Mark
From December 20th through January 5th. This event will feature Cetoddle in Paldea, Carbink in Kitakami and Fraxure in the Blueberry Academy. Their shiny variants have a higher chance of appearing
In addition to that, from November 29th through January 5th, Chansey will appear in Mass Outbreaks in Paldea to offer a chance to get a lot of experience

Shiny Rayquaza is nice and all but the rest of these events are pretty much worthless.

For example, what happened to the Paradox raids which were a great way to get version exclusives conveniently? Or what about getting outbreaks of regional forms that are unavailable in SV? Or just the oddball 7-star raids like Iron Bundle?

Outbreaks and raid events of Pokémon that are already commonly available aren't really exciting in the slightest and I don't see the point in doing them.

There's plenty of random raids & outbreaks beyond the ones people care about but it does feel weird how there's like....no thematic reason for any of these. even though it's all meant to lead up to the anime-tie-in Rayquaza they don't really tie into the anime (I mean, tinkatink does, I guess), or the winter season (beyond Cetoddle). I guess the raids are meant to be "prep" for the Rayquaza (bulky Pokemon, dragon resists) but it's a 5* raid, it's not going to be THAT difficult.

A bit of a shame that it won't be a 7* tbh.

That said, 5* aren't necessarly a walk in the park, expecially with legendary stat line and two 120 BP stabs to throw at your face.
Luckily they removed V-create from Rayquaza's moveset so I wouldn't be surprised if the Steel-fairy mons (expecially Zacian) demolish it.

The secret prize for me is the Chansey outbreaks. I need Item printer fodder to fuel my Rare-Ball-Catch habit.

Rayquaza I expect to be pretty easy with most Steel types or Flying-resistant Fairies, though I would bet on Earthquake for the former to keep players honest with using Debuffs at least.

Just realised I have two beast balls left over. Might be a good candidate? When am I ever going to get another opportunity to put a guaranteed shiny inside a beast ball?

A bit of a bummer it won't be 7 stars, but I guess it makes sense if they want more people to catch the anime promoted mon (sure it could turn out to be the new Iron Leaves, but I assume most people had more issues with some of the 7 raids). No surprise on it being once only either when Dialga and Palkia were as well.

I have no idea what ball I will use for it. As mentioned is a great opportunity for a Beast ball. But excluding Mewtwo who got a Master, I have catched every single one of the Mighty mark with Luxury balls because otherwise I would overthink them too much. It's the perfect fit here too, but I will need to check what I even did for Dialga and Palkia...

The random outbreaks are fine, but nothing particularly picks my interest. I usually like them to be more thematic- Delibird is bad, but I like getting to shiny hunt them in Christmas. I wish we would have gotten this earlier and Wyrdeer as a Christmas 7 star. We got Iron Bundle last year after all. But I'm mainly just surprised there is nothing between Torterra's rerun and this. Guess that maybe they will start spacing them out more.

They could make this a Dragon Dance spammer…and then we’d be thankful it’s just a 5-star raid and not 7 lmao. Unaware Clefable would probably be a good counter, in that case.

I remember with the Iron Leaves raids, they gave them a shorter raid timer to bypass the easier 5 star stat pool. I can see them doing something similar with Shiny Rayquaza.

Forcing Unaware would actually be kind of funny since it would also mean Rayquaza is free to abuse Dragon Ascent without fear of self-debuffs, which might extend to Contrary stats in a way. Either deal with a +6 Offensive Ray or a +6 Defensive Ray.

I think you very much rather deal with defensive ray in such case, since moves that ignore defense buffs exist in worst case (Darkest Lariat, Sacred Sword), and being a 5* it's not as big as a problem to use non supereffective stuff compared to a 7*

That would actually be an interesting way to go about that. Clear Smog Levitate Galarian Weezing would make for a good partner, in that case.

The newsletter/website mentions the 5 star raids are generally raid worthy mons like Azumarill (all Paldea native as well) and the outbreaks during Rayquaza all have black shinies. There's no thematic explanation for the other outbreaks though.

OK the raids and dec 20 outbreaks are cute ideas then. That's fun.

Actually I think you could make a reasonable reach for each outbreak having a connection to its respective raid as well.

Tinkatink and Corviknight (I don't have anything for Bellibolt)
Wooper with Clodsire/Gen 2 waters
Girafarig with the Gen 9 cross gen evos

yeah the chansey outbreaks have been pretty good for me.

Erm... you case you don't know there is a reliable way to get Chansey/Blissey "outbreaks" at any time.

Go to the Team Star fairy camp, to the right of it (looking at the north sea), there are areas with grass that go up to the sea.
Make sandwich 34 (with normal encounter level 2), it is easy to make and has no special ingredient, and rejoice because Chansey and Blissey will be like 95% of the pokémon that will spawn, it is the only normal pokémon there and you will only get rare "strays" from the normal encounter table of that place (Flabébé, Vivillion, Sunkern+Sunflora, Dedenne, etc).
You can max out to 999 happiny dust in the 30 minutes the sandwich effect in on.

Because of this I have printed so many things by now that you can call me Mansa Musa for the inflation crisis I've created in Paldea, Kitakami and Unova.

No one said it, wonn't this raid event totally ruin it for people who reset for shiny ray in past? I never did any of that, but still seems unfair to those people regardless of how many of them there are.

More importantly, I just think that this would throw in too much shiny rays in the circulation and make it seem really worthless... don't even forget about people who makes multiple saves and all that...

It doesn't devaule anything. The years you spent soft resetting for Shiny Rayquaza just to sit in your box didn't retroactively go to waste, because you still caught that shiny rayquaza for years before it was given out. & if you're trying to, I dunno, flip them on the shiny market (for some reason?) then you are far more likely to be contending with hacked Shiny Rayquaza because lord knows people love genning those to varying degrees of success and then vomiting them on GTS.

Besides thanks to the Origin mark system, it's pretty easy to discern who got the event Rayquaza vs not. Shiny Paldean Rayquaza is limited to this specific limited-time event.

Also: Did you know that of the 17 or so event Rays given out over the years, 14 of them have been shiny?

Damn...

~~However I did wanna tell you I make full use of every single good legendary I obtain by turning them into hyperoptimized super soldiers with Smogon dex sets or sometimes just build them into my teams...~~

Hold up, when were these 14 shiny releases?!

2012, 2015 & 2016. &, uh, 2024 counting this event.

Several of those were the same event running in different regions, but, it was still a lot of shiny rayquaza. because shiny rayquaza is cool, and thus gets a lot of releases relative to other Pokemon.
