- Ice Spinner is an alternative to Icicle Crash because of its better accuracy, but it is slightly weaker, cannot flinch, and is a contact move.
- Ice Shard hits Miraidon and Koraidon for super effective damage, 2HKOing the former, and 2HKOes Flutter Mane reliably. Sucker Punch may be considered over Ice Shard, as it does more damage to Iron Bundle and can KO Flutter Mane, but it misses out on revenge killing Koraidon and is often prediction-reliant.
- Sacred Sword allows Chien-Pao to OHKO Chi-Yu, Kingambit, and opposing Chien-Pao, which otherwise resist its STAB moves.
- Chien-Pao can use Tera Dark to make Crunch stronger and 2HKO Corviknight and Toxapex if it gets lucky with a Defense drop. Chien-Pao can also use Tera Ice in order to 2HKO Corviknight more reliably and boost Ice Shard damage—notably against Miraidon, Flutter Mane, and Koraidon. Lastly, Tera Electric Chien-Pao with Tera Blast can easily break through bulky checks like Toxapex, Corviknight, and Dondozo.
- Chien-Pao fits best with other strong wallbreakers that benefit from the removal of defensive walls. These include Koraidon, Miraidon, Iron Bundle, and offensive Great Tusk.
- Defensive partners like Ting-Lu, Great Tusk, and Skeledirge are mandatory to handle fast and strong threats like Koraidon and Miraidon, as Chien-Pao cannot OHKO them if they are at full health. Additionally, Great Tusk and Ting-Lu can set up entry hazards, which is crucial for getting chip on defensive walls.
