Hawlucha has a place as being Grassy Terrain's most defining sweeper as a result of an excellent STAB combination with the Speed boost from Unburden. Substitute allows it to negate status attempts such as poison from Toxapex and phazing attempts from Dragon Tail Garchomp. 27 HP SPs allow its Substitute to not be broken by Dragon Tail from defensive Garchomp after Grassy Seed's Defense boost, granting it free set up opportunities for a Swords Dance. 7 Speed SPs allow it to outspeed Choice Scarf Meowscarada.

Rillaboom is a mandatory partner, enabling the activation for Hawlucha's Grassy Seed. In return, Hawlucha is able to weaken shared checks such as Corviknight. Entry hazard support from Pokemon such as Glimmora and Garchomp grants Hawlucha critical damage rolls such as being able to OHKO Rotom-Wash with +2 Close Combat after Stealth Rock. Steel-types such as Mega Golisopod and Excadrill are valuable partners, being able to threaten Fairy-types like Clefable and Hatterene that Hawlucha can struggle to set up against as well as appreciating Hawlucha's ability to weaken shared checks like Corviknight and Skarmory. Special attackers such as Primarina and Dragapult are able to threaten physically defensive Pokemon such as Corviknight, Rotom-Wash, and Clefable. Likewise, Hawlucha is able to severely weaken Pokemon such as Galarian Slowking and Toxapex. Hawlucha can have trouble handling Pokemon like Aegislash and Skeledirge that can withstand its boosted attacks. Therefore, Dark- and Ghost types such as Kingambit, Hisuian Samurott as well as Dragapult and Ceruledge are beneficial teammates.
